 Final Course Reflection

Having someone else looking at you work is always something one should do if looking to improve your writing. In this course our profoessor would read our work and give us feedback on what to improve. Comments that were really helpful were ones that pointed me in the direction you wanted papers to be written. " Please review the How to Conduct a Textual Analysis Tutorial in Week 5". This comment is showing me exactly where to look to be able to fix the problem the professor is highlighting. For me there was no bad comment. All suggesting ideas to help improve my writing from both the professor and my peers was extremly helpful and forced me to look at my writing through a different lense. I have learned about the process of writing throught this course. I have learned that it takes time and different perspectives to really have your best work.

Media Analysis Reflection

In a media analysis it is key to understand the media peice you are looking at. Whatever ad, commercial, billboard you are using you want to look at detials around it. What neighborhood is the ad taking place in? What is the audicne for the adverstiment or social media post? Looking at small detials like this will help you gain a deeper understanding of the overall message. Sometimes it can be challenging if the ad has a lot going on or many different parts. Having too much in an add can make it hard to find key aspects like location, people, language. Having another peer look over what you have gained from the ad is important. Its a chance to see if you can really the ads message based on your understanding. It also helps because if it is a little confusing the person will let you know what you can do to improve it.

Literature Review Reflection

Before diving into the review clearlt identifying the purpose and focus of the review sets a good overview of what you will be talking about. Your research should use academic datatbases, scholarly journals, and other scholarly sources. Keeping track of your sources throughout your research is key for a succesful paper. For me the thing i struggled with the most was finding and keep track of scholarly sources.Having peer edits was helping because it was another person looking at my work. It helps with overall spelling since they will catch errors but also give suggestions on were things should be added or changed.

Feminist & Queer Analyses

Gender based discrimination has had a significant influence on American culture and society. The disciminacion helps reinforece traditional excepectations and norms regarding men and women. This can be harmful to children because it shapes peoples persepectives on gender rather then having it be an individuals own ideas. Gender stereotypes can also lead gender based violence and hate crimes. Gender stereotypes are the media as well. The portrayal of female athletes in advertisments in trying to target a specific group of people.

Media Literacy Analysis Reflection

While writing the media literacy analysis there were key aspects that I focused on. Before I even start qritting I try to familizarie myself with the text. reading it more than once, anaylizing, and creating question help to dive deeper into the material. I also want to understand the con text as best I can to have accurate information. It can become a personal challenge to really elaberate on the anaylis. Sometimes I feel like I can be straight to the point when I should go in depth and explain more.

Rhetorical & Cultural Analyses

Looking back at protest for fighting for change in the past couple years, the media has had a huge part in drifiting away from the message trying to be told. By highlighting certian parts of protest more than others the media changed the overall message of these protest. The media is a key part of how society gets information. In fast food commeracials social interactions and offers and discounts are ways these companys get peope to but their product.

Research

Reasearch is a key part of creating a paper or other assignments. My expereinces in school have been both online research and library research. While doing online research finding good sources is important. A lot of websites wont have correct information so finding another source to back up the information you researched is important. Wile in a libary most of the sources will be books, magazines, journals etc. Connecting with the librarian can help look for specific things that will help your research. I like researchg because i learn a lot of new information that can be related to my subject or sometimes it can be totally unrelated but still interesting.

Critical Reading

For Paper 1 I will be talking about the effects of social media in Politics. In my research I wil do things like analyze and eveluate different texts and situations that connect to my topic. I will jhave to ask question about why some chocies were made by people with power regarding politics and laws. I will have to do background research on authors, publishers, dates and times to find out personal reasons for supporting or not supporting abuse of power when it comes to media usage in politics. Keeping an open mind during this research and writting of the paper will be key to have a aurgemnet driven paper. I will find both sides during my reseasrch which will help make a good thesi.

Process Writing

The process of writting when first looked at lookes easy however can be a very long process. It entails multiple drafts, edits and outlines. An outline is key to having strong paragraphs. Over the course of the semester I hope the process will become eaiser. Based of what we learned this week it is already explaining the importance of the process of writting and how it requires in depth thoughts about different topics.

Writing Goals and Fears

My personal writing goals for this course are to become more constistent with high level writting. I want to be able to have a strong thesis that can become an argument or conversation starter. My attidude and beliefs about writting are its an important school to be good at but like anything else it takes time and practice. Habits I have with writing right now are maming outlines and drafts, peer editing and self editing. For me if I start off by writing more than I need, then cutting it down makes the process easier.

My plan to overcome my fears of writting are to always start off the same way with every writting assignment. The more it becomes a habit the more I will become more comfortable at writing.
