An actual picture of me chasing my dreams 💕 I chose van life to escape the rat race and do things my way, to travel, to have more free time, more money and to get out of debt, but what I didn't know at the time was all of the other wonderful things that would come from it. It has taught me to chase my dreams and do whatever I want to do, because if you REALLY want something you will put in the work to make it happen. If you never take a leap of faith and just go for things, your dreams will stay dreams forever. It has taught me to think outside of the box. I have had a slow shift in mindset over the last few years. I have realized that I want to work hard for myself and my own dreams instead of someone elses. I dont want someone else controlling my life or time, or telling me what I can or cant do, all just to make THEM more successful while I really go nowhere. I'll never be free while working hard for someone elses success. Vanlife gave me my first taste of freedom and has showed me how backwards society really is, and now I crave more and won't accept a mediocre life. Doing van life, I'm living in beautiful places and constantly exploring which inspires me to be more active. It gives me more time for hobbies, self love and growth and takes a huge financial weight off my shoulders. It got me out of a two year deep depression where I spent almost every single day in bed crying, ordering food and watching Netflix. Honestly, I was very suicidal for a good chunk of my life and decided instead of ending things because I'm not happy with my current life, why not completely change it up and just do what I really want, no matter what it takes. A: It cost us about $40,000 for our 2018 Ram Promaster and build. Q: What inspired you to live the lifestyle? A: We wanted to live frugally while avoiding the 9-5 work schedule. We really value our time and didn’t want to be tied to a normal work schedule. We also want to travel and hopefully find a place to eventually settle down in the US. Q: Where do you want to go the very most in your van? A: We really want to go to Maine! Q: What don't you like about the vanlife?A: A: Our least favorite things are pooping in our camping toilet (bucket) 🤣 and not being able to take our dogs everywhere. Q: What do you love most about the lifestyle? A: We love having the freedom to go where we want whenever we want, like the mountains one week and the beach the next! 🌴🌻 Q: Any advice for fellow vanlifers or people considering the lifestyle? A: Our advice would be go as cheap as you can and be prepared for things to not go according to plan. Things will constantly be challenging and you have to decide daily if this life is best for you. I absolutely love chilling at the beach and cooking up something delicious on my little butane stove, but to be honest it can be time consuming. Until I'm able to quit my full time job it only happens a few times a week 😭 Longing for the days of the pure freedom that I'm working towards. Daily #vanspiration from @this_is_vantastic Q: Age? A: turned 20 one month ago, but started living in a van with 18. Q: What did it cost to get started? A: My parents bought the van and I will pay the difference when selling it again. I don't talk about the price😅 Q: What inspired you to live the van life? A: Hmm difficult question. When 14, I decided to travel Europe in a car, caravan or motorhome after finishing school. At that point I had no clue that something like vanlife was existing. Q: Where do you want to go the most? A: I really was excited for Skandinavia. My favourite country definitely is Norway and I would love to go back one day. Q: What don't you like about the lifestyle? A: I absolutely hate (!) doing dishes. 😅 Also winter vanlife is not the best, at the moment it gets freaking cold in the nights. Q: What's your favorite part about the lifestyle? A: The best thing about vanlife is the freedom. I love waking up in nature and going wherever I want. And of course living in a small space with less stuff, using the sun for electricity and just some liters of water per week. It's the simple life that makes me happy. ☀️✌ I just want to add that vanlife is not always like the pictures on Instagram. There are problems on the road and also daily life takes more time. But in the end the positive aspects of vanlife make it worth🚐 Ahh and also to add: My travelbuddy is a Belgian Shepherd/Malinois and she is trained in protection. So I had no fears about safety on the road. My journey came to an end some weeks ago. I traveled 18 countries in one year. Daily #vanspiration 🚐✌ @projectmango53 We’re Katie and Kev, we’re 28 and 31. Our van cost £5500 and we have no idea how much we have spent on all the stuff to go inside- at a guess, I’d say we’re at about £600. Kev got made redundant at the beginning of the year so we wanted to invest the payout he got in something that we could both get a lot of fun out of! So far it’s paid off.. we have still got to build the bed in the back but hope to be able to do a few road trips in Summer 2020! We would one day love to travel overseas but until we have tried and tested van life, we will likely go all along the south coast, we absolutely LOVE Cornwall so would love to explore the coast (any tips/ secret spots welcome ). We love just being able to pick a spot and pitch up for the day/ weekend.. although we haven’t managed a whole weekend yet 😖 and advice.. GET YOURSELF A VAN- YOU WONT REGRET IT.. enjoy every minute of the build, you will have a love/ hate relationships at times, but I know we will miss working on the van when it’s done! #Vanlife hack 101 I don't know about anyone else, but my van gets a lovely 11 miles per gallon 🙄 and to be honest I don't love driving my house around constantly if I don't have to anyway....so I got this little beauty!
