why do people keep calling the freedom fighters a child army/militia. they’re a bunch of random war orphans in the forest and they’re not really a part of their kingdom in the same way the earth king’s army is. also their ‘government‘ killed their leader

okay everyone, most ridiculous way to reveal that jet isn't dead. i'll start:

he shows up as an ambassador of Omashu because King Bumi saw him one time not even doing anything and thought "that kid's got moxy"

I don’t think I’ve drawn Jet properly. I drew him as a background character once? I think? but that’s about it soooo… here’s Jet.

jet and sokka are actually super similar and people are just too cowardly to admit it. both of them are pragmatic, realists bordering on cynics, and focus on achieving the ends at the expense of the means. both of them ultimately viewed violence as the correct or necessary way to achieve their goals. their differences only lie in at what scale they viewed as important; sokka viewing ozai at the most important evil, at the expense of smaller troops or villages that experienced trouble at the hands of the military (think the painted lady), whereas jet viewed the immediate, personal threat as one that required action. both of them ultimately took leadership over those who they viewed as weaker and needing protection/help, and ultimately formed part of their identity around that. both of them suffered because of these self-appointed roles.

basically, i think that in Another World they would butt heads a lot but ultimately i think they would be frenemies

Avatar didn't deal with religion much (understandable given that it wasn't based in Christian cultures and Hell hath no fury like Christian parents in the west who think anything is "brainwashing" their kids to follow another religion, especially at the time atla was airing), but Jet strikes me as the type to be very conflicted about what he believes.

Like he would want to believe there's something out there, that it's not just things happening because they happen, but how could anything other than an evil force allow so much bad to happen to innocent people? How could he believe in something that has more control than over his life than he or any other human does without hating it? But at the same time, how can he not hope there's something out there helping him and all the other war orphans survive? How can he just let go of the idea that maybe the universe will do him a good turn for all that he's suffered, for all everyone like him has suffered? Don't they deserve it?
