i love the idea that almost no one can pick up on the tiny shift in andrew's microexpressions or distinguish between basically any of his expressions at all other than aaron. not because of some twin telepathy thing but because i think it would be hilarious that the only other person than neil in a room full of the foxes that realizes andrew is eye-fucking neil is the last person who wants to know about it. cue aaron yelping in dramatic revulsion and pretending to gag while everyone asks him wtf is wrong and he just points at andrew like "look at him!!!" and then everyone looks at him and he looks the exact same as always. bored and blank. best poker face andrew minyard and aaron minyard the one man cursed to see it through it

my thoughts on the main story quests (spoilers: may 21 2025 update)

okay so this is just my thoughts kind of wilding all over the place in here but I hope you'll bear with me.

first of all : the shift in the narrative??!

Mr. sands' death, the way darko just fucking pushed him back into garnok and the portal?? the fact we can tell this is almost the end and I'm loving it, this has been going on for too long.

i LOVE that the dark riders just don't really answer to darko, and they don't listen to him. they were tied to Mr. sands and Mr. sands only, and we can only wonder why.

he was the one paying them, technically, so were they just doing it for the money and because they kind of loved being little shits, and he gave them the opportunity to do so while keeping them alive?

but it seems they actually want to set garnok free because they fought us when there was a chance it might be freed and the portal was open, but they didn't want to fight us anymore when the portal was closed with no chance to open it again anytime soon.

the nod between Katja and Jay when the portal was opening... I don't really know what to think of it, maybe they were just happy to free garnok, but I feel like maybe they have a plan together, and its first step is freeing garnok. not sure the others know about it. those two seem closer than the other dark riders, and I think nobody likes erissa. Sabine is a bit of a wild card. i think she might be the one that cares the least about garnok and all their evil plans to be fair, but maybe I'm biased because of the equestrian festival quests...

I would love for some type of revolution from the dark riders to happen, for them to decide it's not worth it without Mr. sands because darko is incapable of doing things right and leading them correctly, especially if they don't like him.

erissa is definitely batshit crazy evil. Katja and Jay are the smart, plotting evil type. Sabine looks more like I'm here because it pays the bills type evil.

sabine would definitely be the morally grey one to stop working for them first, I think.

I would also love for the soul riders to become a bit more morally grey too and emancipate more from the druids and fripp. especially fripp. I hate fripp. can you tell?

i hate that they just put everything on our shoulders and tell us, well, the fate of the world is on you! haha isn't that fun, you could be responsible for so much death if you don't work for us, so hey, can you train four times what the other soul riders do, then do all the work in missions, and risk your life everytime. everyone will die if you don't do what we say. isn't that fun? manipulating bitch(es)

I think the soul riders have already started to become a bit emancipated from the druid and I need them to continue in this direction.

also the quality upgrade in the animation is golden, you can tell they put so much work into this and as it comes closer to the end, it fits the story that we get more cutscenes with big things happening. all my love to the sso team making it happen, I'm sorry there's so much negativity on other platforms.

I hate that all the pants are low waisted and we have no hips at all, I love low waisted pants but it looks better with a little shape 😭

this is incredible work! I wanted to make an accurate map of Jorvik for so long but didn't know how to do it. it's a genius idea to compare the running times!

I'm not sure about the scale of the map : silverglade village is pretty much the same size as my home village (looking at the way houses are placed, the scale with a person). on the map, I measured it as less than 500m (half a km). with your scale, it looks closer to 1 km (double!)

I think it would be closer to 'reality' to divise your scale by half. looking at how quickly we can cross the island on horse back, I think 10km from firgrove to silverglade is a bit of a stretch, 5 km i a bit better (although it might still be a lot imo).

it might fuck with the numbers for population a bit but I don't have the time to recalculate everything haha

Ok so remember this map?

A complete map of Jorvik, with a semi-accurate scale to measure any distance on the island. I’m really proud of it! There is, however, one glaring problem with this map.

WHY IS JORVIK CITY SO SMALL????

I’m sorry but Jorviks capital should not be smaller than middle-of-nowhere ranger town Dundull. The generally accepted minimum population requirements for a city are 50 000 residents. Following the canon map, Jorvik city would need to fit at least 50 000 people in what looks like 2,25 square miles. That would mean Jorvik city houses 22 222 people per square mile, making it the 24th most densely populated city in the WORLD.

Possible? Sure. Likely? Considering the clear inspiration from the way less dense Stockholm, the lack of giant apartment complexes or slum neigbourhoods, which would imply that people live closely together, I’m gonna have to say no.

So how big should Jorvik city be, if the map size is inaccurate? Kind of hard to tell since we can’t see places like Governors Fall or Aideens Plaza on the map.

But there is one place we CAN see.

And if we can use this map, we can measure how long it takes to cross it.

I am very normal about the horse game.

From the barracks to the pier, it takes 38 seconds to cross the map. On a similarly flat surface on Jorvik, we can measure how long Pier 13 actually is, giving us this comparison.

Now, I’m going to show two theories on how big Jorvik City is based on these measurements.

The first one is the most canon-compliant, but also the most ridiculous. By comparing pier 13 to the area outside jorvik stables, we know that pier 13 is ~1 km long. Yes, this is an absolutely massive pier don’t worry about it. Looking at the jorvik city map, we can see that this smaller pier is meant to be to represent Pier 13, and we can do the math from there. Jorvik gets an area of 340 square km, and if we use Stockholms population density as a guide, Jorvik City has about 1,8 million citizens. Cool! One problem though.

You can’t fit it on the map. A city this big would take up almost one fourth of Jorvik, and you’d need to redraw the entire map to make it fit.

So my other option shifts the canon a bit to make the maps fit together. If we go against canon and assume that Pier 13 is actually the larger pier, that downsizes Jorvik City to ~47,5 square kilometres, with a population of around 250 000. This makes Jorvik more comparable to a more densely populated Reykjavik; smaller in area but with double the amount of people. And while it still messes with the coastline a bit, it at least fits into Central Bay.

Personally I think both theories work, but for consistency’s sake, I’m leaning more towards the second theory.

I've been diving back into maya's backstory and the dew family drama, and some thing don't exactly make sense, or if they do it's fucking insane

we know that Maya lived on the Epona farm in her childhood, then GED poisoned the land, the animals and they got bankrupted, GED bought the land (which, why didn't they do anything with it? they fought so hard to buy it and it's just been sitting there untouched). let's say Maya was 8 at the time.

the family bought the forgotten lands farm, lived there for a few before realising the land wasn't fertile, then the parents started traveling to get jobs. Maya is now around 10.

that's where the crazy stuff starts.

maya's character sheet says she's used to sleeping in stables or on couches. which is a wild thing to say about a 17 YEAR OLD.

first of all, why didn't maya's parents take their kids with them? I guess they didn't have the money to feed them all, which is why Maya mentioned she has siblings living with their grandparents on the other side of the island.

secondly, we don't know if Maya ever went with her siblings to live with her grand parents. that would be the logical option, since she was ten, because why would her parents and grandparents just abandon her like that?

I think she may have started out living with them, but for an unknown reason (homophobic grandparents? she wanted to got back to the family farm so bad they got annoyed and said 'well if you wanna go back so badly, then go!') let's say she was around 14 when that happened.

then she started helping out in stables, sleeping there, sometimes sleeping at a friend's house. eventually she finds the moorlands, they give her actual work and salary, so she has enough to eat regularly but can't find somewhere to sleep. she continues sleeping in the stables until the moorland notice, then they offer to house her.

eventually she calls her parents and says she wants to start taking care of the animals on the farm again. they start sending a bit of money for her to do that,but it's not enough so she has to pick from her salary to do it.

here's what doesn't make sense : let's say she's 16 when she comes back to the farm. no one has been on the farm for 6 years. they probably sold all the animals before going, but even if they didn't, how did they survive without anyone? I get surviving 1-3 years but 6? especially because the animals there are cows and sheep. which need to be milked and shorn. they wouldn't have survived.

so did they just buy new animals? they're poor, they can't do that. it costs more money to take care of them, so why buy them when you're poor? Maya doesn't have the necessary time to make profit out of those animals.

another way is that Maya just continued to take care of these animals as soon as her parents left to work elsewhere. so her parents were just okay with leaving a 10 year old caring for many animals alone on a farm? it's pretty hard for a child to do everything around a house and around a farm. Maya says the house is in disrepair, so she must not have been living there for a while.

I only got into this because I wanted to find where to insert myself into her family for a fanfic, but there are so many things that don't make sense, it's so complicated
