thinkin about dc beetlejuice (when am i not) and got to wondering how boy inferno got roped into their netherworld job of inducting the newly dead. cause they didn’t commit suicide so technically they don’t owe any civil servitude debt. the only explanation i can think of is juno secretly being a ginormous boy inferno fangirl during their career and when she found out they died was like “oh yeah no it’s a rule here that groups of five that die in a plane crash on a waxing gibbous moon during a leap year have to be the welcoming committee sorry i don’t make the rules”

I don't mean to take over your post but this reminded me of something I said years ago, back when the show had just wrapped up DC preview!

Back then, Juno was never stated to be a demon, just a regular ol ghost kicking around in the Netherworld (if you look closely at the stage during the opening scenes, her name is on one of the tombstones!)

So my headcanon was that Beetlejuice was actually only half-demon on his dad's side. Which makes his motivation to become alive make a lot more sense, because he wasn't all demon. He was also *human*.

A human ghost, sure. But still human. Human beings have stupid silly little lives filled with taxes, and birthdays and office potlucks. Lives that they hold on to. And a part of him, the human part that never got to experience what being alive is actually like, was naturally drawn to that.

And what's more human than that?

I’d like to expand on my “other demons don’t like beetlejuice” headcanon

~ Beej is tame for a demon. Even if he seems like A Lot to the maitland-deetz household (because he IS) by demon standards he’s actually kinda flopping

~ He’s more into the mischievous side of things. While his peers are enacting Paranormal Activity level hauntings, possessing people to commit murder, and generally Fucking Shit Up, beej just likes going “boo!” and cackling when he frightens people off. He doesn’t have a craving to literally destroy peoples lives (tho he definitely had one of those typical teenage demon phases of murdering, extorting, tricking humans into selling their souls and haunting a few generations of their family till he got bored…but who doesn’t?)

~ when the other demons haunting the netherworld find out that he has p much domesticated himself into a cuddly demon for some teenage girl and a pair of ghosts they are JUDGEYYYY but also? not hugely surprised cause he was always weird

~ he definitely owes most of these demons money, blood debts, and maybe some souls which probably adds to why they hate him

~ they consider his curse to have neutered him a bit but they stay cautious around him cause technically he’s still more powerful than most, considering being a born dead prince of hell and all

~ the maitlands-deetz never even consider his status among other demons cause they’re too busy alternating between scolding him for misbehaving and hugging him cause he’s touch starved af
