ohhh god, I haven't posted art here in Months... let me dust off this blog and share something small i drew a while back, it's a character design for my Curse of Strahd character, Rémy! We've been playing for almost three years and are rapidly approaching a Final Confrontation with one Strahd von Zarovich, whom Rémy is... very scared of but also righteously angry at and has vowed to destroy. I've been hit with wild levels of late-onset brainrot about this D&D game and character lmao so I might be sharing some other art of stuff from the campaign at some point.

here are some Fun Facts about remy:

i made him be from greyhawk despite knowing very little about that setting, and now i've done so much research only to discover that there is so little lore about the country i wanted him to be from

his sentient magic sword has higher intelligence than him... and also higher wisdom and charisma...

despite being (to quote a fellow player) "a wholesome medieval berries & cream lad" his Type is dark and edgy bad boys and he is also uh. a bit of a freak (shh don't tell teehee)

does not want to kill people and had never done so before arriving in Barovia but has definitely had to commit several murders at this point in the game... :|

he loves reading, his favorite kinds of books are poetry, history, and tales of chivalric romance

his bardic instrument is the violin but he is only okay at it, and also not a great singer... but he IS good at playing piano

I know he doesn't have a Houndour in any version of the game but I was playing a romhack of Crystal that adds it to his team and I think it suits him perfectly

Self-indulgent painting of Gale & Vennet... This was supposed to just be a quick pose warm-up, but I liked it so much I finished it 💜

SUMMARY: One year after the defeat of the Netherbrain, Gale's life as a professor at Blackstaff Academy is content, if a little lonely. That all changes thanks to a reunion with his fellow wizard and former adventuring companion, who has gone through a dramatic life change herself... Surely Gale has had enough time to get over his unrequited love for the woman who'd turned him down, especially when she's now become a mind flayer. Right? Postgame Gale x f!Tav, slightly slow burn get together, with pining Gale, a definitely not generic Tav, and a second chance after missing out on the game's canon romance. And tentacles!

Some fun facts about this piece: 1) Tav is playing the Lute of the Merryweather Bard from the digital deluxe edition of the game 2) The reason there are two slightly different colors of gold in the frame is that when I was halfway through painting it, I went to the art store, saw they had a paint color that was literally called "The Emperor's Gold", and was like ...I kind of have to buy this and use it, right, for the Bit

3) it's delightfully shiny IRL in a way that doesn't come across in the scan! look ✨️✨️

I think there's only the one piece of official art for this guy, and lots of different fan designs :|a I tried to make his facial features look like Araj Oblodra from BG3, although I'm not sure how closely they're actually supposed to be related

(lesbian flag in the back is cuz I'm a lesbian and got halfway through and was like "wait, I should incorporate my own identity into my silly pride art but neither of these characters are lesbians" lol)

Y'all seemed to be enthusiastic about my Tav when I posted art of her smooching Gale so I thought I'd share my full character design for her too! (I changed her color scheme since that previous art anyway) Here's my problematic weirdo squid girl, illithid Tavs forever 🦑

She actually neither went through ceremorphosis nor romanced Gale in-game, those are both part of my post-game storyline haha... she missed her half-illithid powers so much that after tying up some loose ends back home in Menzoberranzan and being accepted to join the Society of Brilliance, she asked the Emperor to tadpole her again so she could become a mind flayer. Her current project is working with Omeluum to create a substitute food source for illithids so they don't have to consume brains.

here's what she looks like without clothes (that sounds so spicy. it's a mind flayer it's got no visible bits) and what she looked like in-game! I always used the Bloody Plum dye for her clothing while I was playing, but somehow landed on dark teals instead for her future self

Vennet's my first Tav and I played the game mostly blind so I didn't know what her arc would be going in, but I've developed her a lot over time. I had originally meant to romance Astarion but she ended up being... not the right person for him, and I had to break off their relationship bc I couldn't imagine it being anything other than a toxic disaster LOL, but at that point I was too far in the game to start anything with anybody else and she'd already rejected Gale's love confession...!

so I just ended the game with No Bosom Companion 😔 but as I was later thinking about my future storyline for her and decided she becomes a mind flayer after all, I suddenly realized that she'd be perfect for Gale. So she falls in love with him post-game (and post-tentacles!) and they have got some Issues to work through but eventually it's cute :3 (I'm maybe trying to write a fanfic about their romance, watch this space 👀)

prev anon can’t imagine a happy ending for an illithid? Sounds like a skill issue. Your art made me so happy to see I got butterflies because it’s such a sweet concept and so well executed. Also, (I haven’t played the full game myself) but doesn’t bg3 make it a point to say how illithids are capable of being their own unique people if given the chance? Sounds like anon would rather make sweeping shallow statements on a race without thinking much deeper on that. A huge talking point of dnd nowadays is looking past the borderline racist original depictions of evil-aligned races and finding something good and fun and compelling about them. This is why we have orcs that defy their “evil dumb” archetype and vampires and drow capable of good and tieflings in so many different colours!! 😂 Im so sorry for the tangent in your inbox but free your mind anon!! kiss an illithid! You have nothing to lose but your chains!!! 🦑💞

awww thank you anon, what a sweet message!! I was nervous to post that art of my character because it was my first time showing her off and I thought people will be weirded out by it (I had meant to post some kind of character design reference sheet explaining her Deal, first, but... I got bit by a galemance fixation......) but I won't let one single rude anon spoil my fun, I was actually blown away by how many notes that art got and how enthusiastic people have been in the tags about illithid tavs!! 🥰

I agree with you that since the very beginning of D&D it's been a grand tradition that the monster manual will say that some monster race is ALWAYS evil and there will be always be the people who look at that and go "okay, but what if there were a good one of them though" lolol. While drow and orcs and so on have been thoroughly moved into the category of "just people who have a different culture" for a while at this point, it's a lot harder to justify a non-evil alignment** for an eldritch sci-fi alien that is required to consume sentient creatures to live and is biologically hardwired to dominate and mind control... but damn if Larian didn't take a look at that and do so ANYWAYS, with ~three completely different characters no less. IMO it's a big part of the themes of this game to look at a supposed "monster" and be forced to see the nuance in them. [i mean, just look at the dark urge's character arc!!! if that person can be a hero despite their innate biological bent towards evil, why can't a mind flayer?]

**ngl vennet miiiight be neutral evil, if i rly had to put her on the alignment scale i'm btwn that and true neutral, but she was Bad before the ceremorphosis lmao. sorry if i tricked anyone with how cute her & gale are but also she's essentially a 'mad scientist' character and if anything becoming a mind flayer Fixed Her. lol

Anyways since you guys seemed to like Vennet, there is more art of her (with & without Gale) coming from me at some point but in the meantime if you want to see some pics of what she actually looks like in-game here are a fewww! obviously as her original drow self and not tavflayer which always looks the same and which i didn't even do in the actual gameplay lol
