kinda wish I had taken a photo of these before, but I’ve been doing some visible mending on my clothes recently :) the fashionable distressing had turned into slightly less fashionable gaping holes lol
thought it would be fun to try and continue the tree print onto the pants themselves to make it look like they were growing out—I’m not terribly good at embroidery bc I don’t do it very often but I think it turned out well!! yay :) I left some of the frayed edges in bc I liked the look, and I’m pretty happy with that decision \o/

Y’all.
Y’ALL.
So I’m in Minneapolis right now, and decided to visit the art museum. Y’all I need to show you what I just found in a collection of Dutch paintings.

Look at the boy’s eyes and smile.

Y’all.
I’ve seen that face before. On more than one person. Those exact eyes, that exact smile.
HE HAS DOWN SYNDROME.
He’s the focal point of this painting, or more precisely his fish is, and he’s got Down syndrome.
This is from the 1600s, y’all.
“Where were the disabled people back then” FISHING, APPARENTLY.
Disabled people have always been here. You just have to look.

Watching Jurassic Park and I have Opinions on this place as a zoo. Feeding the predators live prey?? There's other ways to provide enrichment! Also that enclosure is way too small for multiple large animals like that! Electric fences? Ha! Electric fences won't stop a fucking goat! Where's the zoo experts? Who designed these enclosures?? Were all zoos this shitty in the 90s???

A friend of mine from around here who is Very Christian and has never had a Jewish friend before was asking me some stuff about antisemitism today, and it made me realize that the ways people talk about various types of bigotry and racism are so designed to stump people about the nature and purpose of systems of oppression. "Why do people hate the jews so much?" is such a common refrain and while there have been many books and articles written pulling apart all the important contextual and historical things that can help people understand antisemitism SPECIFICALLY, what I ended up saying to my friend was this:
"Something to understand about antisemitism is it isnt just ideological. The expulsion of jews from various countries was very often a method of "legally" seizing their wealth when the church needed money. It has been historically an incredibly convenient source of both a group of people to blame and also an easy way to just... Be able to steal from people, lmao. It has served very concrete material purposes for churches and governments throughout history. Sometimes you have to approach asking those questions from a different angle because it often isnt about the hatred so much as it is about ... Redirecting energy and attention, right, like upholding structures that benefit those in power. The hatred is convenient because it allows those in power to take actions that would not be tolerated if the group in question were not considered to be Exceptional in their inhumanity. Like the undocumented immigrants now, asking "why do they hate the immigrants so much" isnt always a productive avenue of thought because the hatred is usually just... Useful. Rather it is more helpful to ask "Who does it benefit for these people to be treated this way" -> "what do they need to make the general public believe about that group of people in order to justify this treatment". I think sometimes we are made to think hatred of jews is special and rooted in something different than other hatred... It's not. I mean all types of racism etc are unique. But it very much is about justifying actions that benefit a ruling class in all instances, imo."
And she like totally got it!!! She was like "OH I NEVER THOUGHT ABOUT IT LIKE THAT BUT THAT MAKES SO MUCH SENSE THANK YOU" I am very proud of myself lol :')

I saw your post with all your short sleeve button ups and it's given me gender envy like crazy! can I ask where you bought them and whether they had larger sizes?
ahaha they're just SUCH GOOD SHIRTS
The vast majority of them are from TK Maxx (which I believe in the US is called TJ Maxx?). I tend to scope out the ~man section~ starting in early spring and they always have so many, and pretty inexpensive too. Sizes are a bit all over the place, though!
A couple are from Next, which I think goes up to 4XL depending on the shirt, a couple are Asos (which again, totally depends on the brand) and the one with pineapples on I made myself 😅

There may be a fine line between war crimes and genocide, but the line is looking incredibly broad and vague in Israel's push to remove Palestinians from historical Palestine.
why do people want to call war crimes a genocide so badly like aren’t war crimes bad enough on their own
#there is a valuable point here even though i don't wholly agree#yeah all war is terrible and innocents die#but the sheer mass of civilian deaths + occupation of evacuated areas....the plan to concentrate the entire palestinian population in one#place...the plan to let/force them to emigrate (and never return to their homeland?)...the dubious at best firing into crowds heading#toward aid stations b/c said crowds are “suspicious” (how??)...it paints a bad picture of the israeli government's plans#to be very clear: a government is related to but separate from the people it governs. blaming the government is not the same as blaming#any/everyone who bears that nation's nationality.#i dunno it reads a lot like the usa's removal of native americans from ancestral lands to camps (“reservations”) that failed to protect them#and there's no way you can call what the usa did (and is doing) to natives anything but genocide#is it possible--bear with me--that too many wars are founded on genocidal motives? like russia's offensive on ukraine#maybe some/most war crimes are “just” war crimes but they can still co-occur with genocides#i/p

Curious about people's reading preferences, reblogs for sample size are very appreciated ❤️
#both for different reasons at different times#audiobook is great for when my eyes have to be doing something else but I always miss details listening#print is great when i want to absorb every nuance but sometimes i just can't concentrate on it (bonus: broken concentration means i can just#pick back up where I left off. vs missing 30 seconds of audiobook and having to deal w/pressing pause)#(yes pressing pause (and rewinding) and pressing play again is a hassle) (am i adhd or what)

so in a few weeks when im a doctor i'm gonna have my doctorate in occupational therapy; a title commonly shortened to "OT"
I also use a donkey as my symbol because if I'm gonna be thought of as an autistic jackass, I might as well embrace it and be a very cute one
What this means in the long run, is that in just a few weeks I shall be
a Donkey-OT
