Tesla
Tesla has quietly released the expected prices of its new all-electric semi truck on its website. Two options will be available, with the only difference between the tow being the range you can achieve on a single charge.
The entry 300-mile range model will cost $150,000 (that's about £112,755 or AU$196,645), while the 500-mile range truck will cost $180,000, which converts to about £135,325 or AU$235,890. That $30k price increase may well be worth the investment if you're planning on hauling goods through barren lands where charging points are hard to come by.
Both models will require a $20,000 reservation.
As our very own Tim Stevens explains, "entry-level semis cost upwards of $100,000 -- but that's just the beginning. Annual diesel costs alone can run up another $70,000, with total operating costs coming in at around $180,000 per year!" A one-time $180,000 purchase with no diesel costs on top could therefore make Tesla's Semi an attractive option.
Tesla has yet to confirm precisely when the vehicle will hit the roads, but website electrek reports an ambitious 2019 date.

The upcoming 2018 Mercedes-Benz A-Class has had its insides revealed and detailed this week, during a special event held in Germany.
A series of images were published by Autoblog, confirming the new space-age dashboard design for the upcoming small hatch, drawing inspiration from the larger E-Class and S-Class.
Sitting in front of the driver is a fully-digital instrument display merged with the central infotainment screen, varying in size depending on the model variant.
Autoblog says entry-level models will get a dual-7.0-inch setup as standard, while mid-to high-grade variants will either get one 7.0-inch and one 10.25-inch screen or dual-10.25-inch displays. The latter two versions get bonded glass technology for the screens, according to the publication.
Gone are the current car’s rotary dials and supplementary LCD displays for the air-conditioning system, with all controls now being accessed via the central infotainment screen – though there’s a strip of physical buttons to adjust the temperature and demister functions.
“Thanks to the visual separation of the lower section from the main body of the dashboard, the former appears to float in front of the dashboard,” Hartmut Sinkwitz, head of interior design, told Autoblog.
“At the same time, the A-Class is the first series-production model to dispense completely with a classic cockpit shroud. This literally places the large widescreen cockpit with its bonded glass technology in the forefront.”
“Moreover, there is no longer a display in the A/C control panel, as the visual representation is exclusively via the central display,” he added.
There’s also new turbine-shaped fans taken straight from the E-Class, while the new steering wheel design borrows heavily from the S-Class flagship.
In an effort to push the A-Class further upmarket, features like climate-controlled front seats and LED ambient interior lighting (with 64 LEDs) will be offered, while passenger space and interior storage are also set to get a significant upgrade.
Autoblog reports that the new A-Class features more shoulder room (+9mm front, +22mm rear), elbow room (+35mm front, +36mm rear) and headroom (+7mm front, +8mm rear).
The boot, meanwhile, is said to have increased to 370 litres – a 29L improvement over the current model. According to the report, the luggage area features a 200mm-wider aperture thanks to new split tail-lights, while the boot floor itself is 115mm longer than its predecessor’s.
It’s reported that the new-generation A-Class will be revealed at the 2018 Geneva motor show in March, with the related CLA and GLA to follow. An A-Class sedan is also coming, though this will likely be reserved for the Chinese market a-la BMW 1 Series sedan.
Other updates expected include a new entry-level AMG variant, dubbed ‘A40’ in recent coverage – likely to replace the current A250 Sport – along with an even more powerful A45 approaching the 300kW mark.
Stay tuned to CarAdvice for all the latest Mercedes-Benz A-Class updates in the coming months.
What do you think of the 2018 A-Class’s interior?

Rolls-Royce has been very clear that its
forthcoming crossover
won't be an SUV. Elegant, sure. Sporty... er, maybe. But certainly not utilitarian.
An “all-terrain, high-sided vehicle” is what they're calling it over in Goodwood. But what if it were a real utility vehicle?
Then it might look something a little like this. A lot like this, if we were so fortunate. It's called the Rolls-Royce Haunt, in keeping with the marque's ghostly naming scheme. Only it doesn't actually exist. It's a rendering from Brazilian designer
Kleber Silva
.
As you can see, the design calls for a four-door, short-bed pickup truck – not unlike, say, the
Lamborghini LM002
or a Hummer H2 SUT... only not quite that utilitarian, and with distinctly Rolls-Royce design traits.
It has a “pantheon” grille, Spirit of Ecstasy hood ornament, suicide rear doors, two-tone paintjob... just how we'd expect a Rolls-Royce truck to look, if ever the ultra-lux automaker were to make one. And looking at it, we can't help but wonder if it should.
Maybe then you'd see owners
taking their Rollses hunting
(or hawking) like they used to, instead of having to “slum it” in a Range Rover or Bentley Bentayga.

The back seat of a cab in New York – his was, for Ryan Weideman, a “photographic studio” for decades.
When Ryan Weideman arrived at New York in 1980, he was full of dreams. He immediately realized how difficult it was to start a life of a photographer and began to worry about paying his bills and rent.
Inspired by his neighbor who was a taxi driver, Ryan embraced the idea of becoming one and uniting his work with a passion for photography.

8 Egyptian Female Entrepreneurs That Will Inspire You to Follow Your Dreams
by Nadine Arab
Today, many women and young girls break free of the status quo and prove themselves as successful entrepreneurs. The number of Egyptian women that are starting up their own businesses is increasing day after another. With their great determination they have given us a reason to keep moving forward, especially those who built their empire from scratch and managed to rise with it to international fame. We made you a list that only includes a few examples of inspiring Egyptian icons that will make you so eager to go follow your dreams.
Azza Fahmy – Founder of Azza Fahmy
  Via Egyptian Streets
Egypt’s pioneer in culture jewelry, is the true definition of “every necklace has a story”. Every piece of jewelry she crafts has a rich heritage behind it. The brand is well established internationally and has garnered a massive amount of popularity, especially among celebrities and public figures such as Raya Abi Rached, Nicole Scherzinger and Rihanna.
The hard work and amount of effort exerted to build her empire is the most astonishing, “So I tied my hair back, put on my overalls and spent my days in a workshop full of men learning the tricks of the jewelry making trade,” she said.
Hend Riad and Mariam Hazem – Founders of Reform Studio
  Via Lionesses of Africa
An idea that started with one plastic bag in Cairo, turned into an award-winning design studio that’s recognized internationally. Reform Studio produces furniture out of its innovation, Plastex. It is basically plastic bags and cotton threads recycled into handmade fabric. The eco-friendly innovation has won several international awards, including Cartier’s Women’s Initiative Award in Paris and the Silver A’ Design Award in Italy.
Norine Farah – Founder of Norine Farah
  Via Medium
Even though she studied Hotel Management, she traveled to study design at the prestigious Instituto Marangoni in Milan and Polimoda in Florence. The young designer had a unique signature that got her to Tiffany’s New York Fashion Week in 2015. She also got nominated to represent Egypt in World Fashion Week Paris, Jardin des Tuileries, Louvre in 2016, and this year she was also nominated to represent Egypt in London Fashion Week along with five others.
Mai Medhat – Co-founder of Eventtus
  Via Egyptian Streets
Along with her co-founder, Nihal Fares, they launched an online platform and mobile app for event planning, networking and ticketing. It’s basically an interactive medium connecting event organizers and attendees. We definitely cannot forget when Medhat was invited with other international entrepreneurs, to have a discussion with president Barack Obama and Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg at the Global Entrepreneurship Summit last year.
Aya and Mounaz Abdelraouf – Founders of Okhtein
  Via Maison Pyramide
The design duo siblings set the bar so high for luxury accessories. Their aim to promote Egyptian artistry is quite noticeable in the vibrant quality designs. Not having enough resources to hire a PR agency, they worked their fingers to the bones until their brand started drawing attention worldwide. Many celebrities were spotted wearing their bags, including Emma Watson and Gigi Hadid.
Farida Temraz – Founder of Temraza
  Via Vimeo
Founder and talented designer of the haute couture and bridal wear brand, has also managed to represent Egypt globally. Temraz won the First Place Award at Paris Fashion Week in 2014 as well as Best Female Couture Designer at New York Fashion Week this year. The red carpet designer as also participated in London Fashion Week and Los Angeles Fashion Week.

Mercedes-Benz Generation EQ concept, 2016 Paris auto show
Enlarge Photo
Mercedes is committed to adding as many as 10 electric cars to its lineup by 2022, including SUVs, sedans, hatchbacks and even commercial vehicles.
We were given a taste of Mercedes’ first volume electric car in the form of the Generation EQ concept unveiled at the 2016 Paris auto show. The concept, which was in the form of an SUV, also marked the introduction of Mercedes’ new EQ sub-brand for electric cars.
Our next glimpse at an upcoming EQ model, this time a compact, will come in the form of a new concept to be unveiled in September at the 2017 Frankfurt auto show. The new concept is tipped to be a hatchback.
The production version of the concept, possibly labeled an EQA, will arrive in 2020 to challenge the BMW i3 and a production version of Volkswagen’s I.D. concept. It will likely end up the most popular member of Mercedes’ EQ electric cars, as it will be the most affordable, priced only slightly higher than the automaker’s current compacts. It will ride on Mercedes modular electric car platform, a “skateboard” style platform dubbed the Modular Electric Architecture (MEA), and should offer a range approaching 300 miles.
The first of Mercedes’ EQ electric cars will be a small SUV similar in size to the GLC. Previewed by the Generation EQ concept, the electric SUV is due in 2018 and has already been spied testing. It will challenge the Tesla Model Y as well as a planned electric version of the BMW X3.
The Frankfurt auto show starts September 12. Mercedes will also unveil there the code-named Project One hypercar from Mercedes-AMG, a production-ready GLC fuel cell vehicle, a self-driving concept from Smart, updated versions of the S-Class Coupe and Cabriolet, and the X-Class pickup truck. For our full coverage, head to our dedicated show hub.

Tim Cook today touted that Apple has now sold over 1.2 billion iPhones, a milestone achieved in just a decade. The news was announced during Apple’s Q3 2017 earnings call and comes a year after Apple revealed it had sold 1 billion iPhones.
Spigen TEKA RA200 Airpods Earhooks Cover
In July of 2016, Apple confirmed that it had sold 1 billion iPhones to date, with Tim Cook touting the device as a one of the most ‘important, world-changing and successful products in history.” Furthermore, this means that Apple has sold somewhere around 200 million iPhones in the last year, selling around 41 million units in Q3 2017.
Here’s what Cook said on today’s earnings call regarding iPhone:
iPhone results were impressive, with especially strong demand at the high end of our lineup. iPhone 7 was our most popular iPhone and sales of iPhone 7 Plus were up dramatically compared to 6s Plus in the June quarter last year. The combined iPhone 7 and 7 Plus family was up strong double digits year over year.
One decade after the initial iPhone launch we have now surpassed 1.2 billion cumulative iPhones sold.
Apple will further celebrate the 10-year anniversary of the iPhone later this year when it unveils the oft-rumored iPhone 8 (or whatever it will be called). The release of that device will only further increase Apple’s unit sales.

The iPod died slowly, then all at once. After nearly 16 years on the market, more than 400 million units sold, and one Cupertino company launched into the stratosphere on its back, Apple quietly pulled the iPod Nano and Shuffle out of its virtual stores today. The iPod Touch still lives on: In fact, Apple now offers the Touch with 32 gigs of storage starting at $199. But that's not a real iPod; it's an iPhone-lite. Today officially marks the end of Apple's era of standalone music players.
OK, so you're probably looking at your smartphone and wondering why you should care that a music player, which offers one very old and outdated version of one feature on your phone, no longer exists. That's fair! It's been years since the iPod sold in massive numbers—Apple even stopped reporting its sales separately in earnings releases, relegating iPods to the "Other Products" category with dongles and headphones and those crazy cases for your Apple Pencil. Back in 2014, right around the iPod Classic's discontinuation, Tim Cook said that "all of us have known for some time that iPod is a declining business." There's just no room left in the market for an iPod.
In a way, though, the death of the iPod feels like a critical moment for an entire generation. When I think of high school, I think of my hideous gold iPod Mini, stolen from my car in the school parking lot with a hard drive full of Zeppelin and Creedence and all the other music I thought I was cool enough to like. I think about handing my iPod to friends, and the deep fear of what they'd find. (I swear that Hoku album is my sister's, I have no idea how it ended up there.) The way some people think about flipping through the LPs in a record store, or obsessively organizing their CDs into a hefty black Case Logic binder, some people remember their iPod: plugging it into the computer, waiting forever for iTunes to open and sync, managing metadata and curating playlists. Most of all, the feeling of a clickwheel whirring underneath your thumb as you searched for the perfect track.
VIDEO
The iPod hit shelves right after Napster caught fire. Pair the thrill of piracy with Apple's gadget and an ample hard drive, and music was suddenly set free. Those iconic white headphones were instantly ubiquitous, music lovers able to soundtrack the world however they wanted. "It gives them control of the journey, the timing of the journey and the space they are moving through," Dr. Michael Bull, a professor at the University of Sussex, told WIRED in 2004. "It's a generalization, but the main use (of the iPod) is control." Sure, there were other portable music gadgets, but MiniDisc and Walkman were bigger, clunkier, and more complicated. You had to plan what you wanted to listen to ahead of time. With an iPod, you had all your music, all the time.
You could argue that the iPod killed the album, making playlists and Shuffle Mode the primary methods of listening. It definitely helped kill paid-for music, because who can afford to buy all 5,000 songs to fill their iPod? Eventually, the industry caught up, trading downloads for subscriptions and albums for Discover Weekly playlists. Music became so readily available that companies had to invent new ways to find it—Alexa works much faster than a clickwheel. That's the beautiful irony here: The music industry Apple helped create, dominated by streaming and algorithms and discovery, no longer has a place for the iPod.
If you have some nostalgia, Apple will be selling the last remaining iPods in Apple Stores, at least for a while. You can also buy a gadget like Mighty to use with Spotify, or an Apple Watch or HomePod, which Apple surely sees as the iPod's spiritual successors. More likely, you'll just stick with your phone, which represents the present and future of how you listen to music. But as it goes away, take a minute and remember what the iPod brought to the world. It set music free.

Atari started teasing its Ataribox at E3 this year, promising a “brand new Atari product.” While we saw a 20-second YouTube teaser that hinted the Ataribox would be housed in wood like the 2600, the video game maker has not provided many details about the console until today. Atari is now teasing more, including what the Ataribox looks like.
In an email to Atari fans, the company reveals “our objective is to create something new, that stays true to our heritage, while appealing to both old and new fans of Atari.” The new Ataribox is clearly inspired by the classic wood found on the Atari 2600, and the new console features ribbed lines, a raised back, and a front panel that can either be glass or wood. Indicator lights glow through these materials, and Atari is including SD card support, a HDMI port, and four USB ports on the Ataribox. Two versions of the Ataribox will be released, one in wood, and one in black / red.
Atari plans to deliver classic games in the Ataribox, alongside “current content.” It’s not clear if that current content involves simply republishing Rollercoaster Tycoon, but it appears that the Ataribox will be similar to the NES and SNES Classic in providing access to old titles in modern retro hardware. While Atari has licensed its brand recently, the company is involved in the creation of the Ataribox. Hopefully that doesn’t mean Atari is just licensing its brand again for a partner to create and manage the hardware.
Atari isn’t providing any more information on pricing, release dates, game content, or even full specs right now. “We know you are hungry for more details; on specs, games, pricing, timing,” reads an Atari statement. “We’re not teasing you intentionally; we want to get this right, so we’ve opted to share things step by step as we bring this to life, and to listen closely to the Atari community feedback as we do so.”

Following the recent debut of the Bentley Bentayga Falconry by Mulliner this past May, Bentley announced that its Flying Spur will receive a new Mulliner special edition that will surely have Bentley’s gilded gentry clientele wiring quite a handsome sum of money to the Crewe-based firm. Once again, Bentley’s coach-building arm has delivered something special with the debut of the Flying Spur Design Series.
The new limited edition Flying Spur will come in a selection of five different interior and exterior accent colors splits, including Mandarin, Pillar Box Red, White, Kingfisher, and Azure Purple as curated by Bentley’s Mulliner division. Additionally, Mulliner clients will be able to choose from a variety of interior leather, dash materials, and technical options that further the bespoke nature of the Flying Spur Design Series.
The exterior of the car is highlighted by bright-colored contrasting lines and blackened brightwork on the Flying Spur’s grille, side vents, window surrounds, and throughout the car. According to the brand, the Design Series by Mulliner treatment will be available through the Flying Spur range, including the V-8, W-12, V-8 S, and W-12 S models.
On V-8 S and W-12 S cars, the Flying Spur Design Series by Mulliner will also feature “a bold front-bumper design with a highlighted “lower fine line highlighted with a striking accent color,” and LED Welcome Lamps that reflect the word “Mulliner” on to the ground when customers approach the car at night.
Customers who choose the W-12 S, and who select the 21-inch Directional Sport Wheels, will have the wheels painted Gloss Black to “further enhance the powerful, aggressive nature of the W-12 S engine.” While V-8 S owners can still choose the same wheels, they’ll have to make do with a black-machined finish.
The company will only commission a mere 100 examples of the Flying Spur Design Series by Mulliner over the course of the car’s run, and each will feature “bespoke interpretation” for each individual customer. Each Flying Spur Design Series by Mulliner will also receive a special door sill plaque that says, “Mulliner” signifying the unique nature of the car.
Bentley hasn’t disclosed how much the Flying Spur Design Series by Mulliner will cost, but given its bespoke nature, and the vast amount of choices available to Mulliner clients, it likely will cost a pretty penny more than the Flying Spur’s base price of nearly $200,000.
