I saw this documentray on Leonardo da Vinci and (I don’t know if this has been mentioned before), the inspiration for the automaton comes from this brilliant mind !!
Look closer
In the middle of the picture is a cylinder, like the one we see on the automaton Varian sends to the castle of Corona. This one has a broken line to make the robot move its arms alternatively. It’s a bit different on the show, but I have the feeling the 2 are connected.
I also happened to see an expo a few months ago and I took so many pictures thinking : “oh wow, this is definitely a contraption Varian could come up with” XD
