Oh Goro, my sweet summer child. Why does the world despise you so? I probably shouldn’t have been surprised to find that strict binary that happens on here, where someone, real or fictional, is either perfect and pure or irredeemable garbage, but hey, it’s tumblr. What can you do?

I know people like comparing him with Adachi because of the whole detective thing. They do have a lot of similarities, at least on the surface – they’re both characters in antagonistic roles who put on a sweet enough face to avoid suspicion, and they were both handpicked by a god with too much time on their hands and a desire to just watch the world burn. 

You could argue that Goro is a better character, morality-wise, than Adachi because of his past. No matter how you look at it, it’s tragic and he absolutely did not deserve the hand he was dealt, but does that justify his actions over the course of the story? Personally, I don’t think so, but I’ll let you be the judge of that. 

But hey, do you know who else was dealt a really shitty hand in life and was given unimaginable power by a bored and/or vindictive god that would eventually be used maliciously? This guy:

See, the Persona community on tumblr – or maybe just in general, but I haven’t been involved in too many fan spaces outside tumblr – likes to paint Jun as a delicate, tragic figure that can do no wrong. It’s the most popular interpretation of him that I’ve seen, and also the most ignorant – what about everything that happened before he officially joined the party?

Like Goro, Jun used his power to serve who he believed to be his father, and that involved a lot of unnecessary violence, and Innocent Sin does not gloss over just how many people whose dreams Jun stole. Like Goro, Jun harbored a serious grudge against the main protagonist and acted on that grudge every moment leading up to his ultimate redemption. Not to mention, they’re both very charismatic people and have no problem using other people to achieve their goals. Take this to its logical extreme, and both Goro and Jun can be very manipulative as well.

So is Goro a perfect angel that did nothing wrong? No more so than Jun. Is Goro an irredeemable piece of shit that doesn’t deserve any kindness or sympathy? … also no more so than Jun.

I am ashamed of the country I live in.

Enter the United States from stage left, rising above all odds to become a sovereign nation in a righteous push for freedom, working to build a country brick by brick and a constitution destined to last for centuries. But what freedom is there now? It is but an illusion of the long dead dream, the wool over our eyes that leaves us complacent and dispassionate about every injustice that we witness in our country every day. Can we decree that electing someone advocating for the public isolation and humiliation of our fellow people a representation of freedom? Are we so foolish to sit idle and say “Yes, I will accept a man with the mindset of a child who bullies others, someone who vies for attention from the press, confides in other countries to meddle with the votes of our most important elections and spews hate at those he refuses to try to understand?

Shame on us! Shame on my fellow Americans for wanting to follow like sheep and cling to the drivel filled with complete and utter loathing for the human race that Trump harbors and uses to corrupt the hearts of good people. Shame on us for not researching the facts of this election, for not taking action to enlighten ourselves on the explicit truth and instead allowing us to be spoonfed lies and prejudiced propaganda from the television and other unreliable sources! Shame on us for allowing hate, islamophobia, racism, misogyny, homophobia and transphobia to cloud our good judgment and turn American citizens against one another and advocating for the isolation and exclusion of those affected by the before mentioned evils, to attempt to strip them of their basic human rights and dignity as human beings. In the few years that I have lived, I bear witness to the devolution of America; the silencing of the victims of hate crimes, rapes, and other acts of horrendous violence made in the name of avenging those who died in the 9/11 attacks. Tell me, how many innocent Muslims and and civilians have died in America’s inquisition for this so called "justice” for their people? Apparently, the price of this corrupted justice is, at the very least, 470,000 people in Syria alone. I pray that God and Allah may forgive us for the ruthless slaughter of His disciples, for all human beings are His children, all of which he loves equally. Have we become so blind as to deny the humanity of our fellow people?
