Ok but the moment Rumi realized that her patterns were growing.

Like, in the flashback of her as a kid, she's maybe seven or eight? And the patterns then were small, manageable. Just a few wisps that could maybe be written off as a birthmark. And any spread they have is so small, so slow, keeping pace with her own body's growth that she doesn't notice until she's ten. She had long since started her training to be a hunter, but now Celine was starting to transition her into a combination of hunter skills along with Idol skills. And while Rumi excelled at being a hunter, she was a little too introverted to take to Idol training right away. She always smiled weird, liked all the wrong foods, never could carry herself with the right amount of poise. And it was in the face of that constant failure that, one day, she donned a tshirt she always wore only to discover that the sleeves no longer covered her patterns.

That's ok: maybe it just shrunk in the wash. Or she had another growth spurt. It's fine. She picks out a different shirt and carries on.

A week later, she could swear the line on her upper bicep ended lower. There was a freckle on her skin that had been a few inches above the pattern, but now the tip of the purple mark was touching the freckle.

Ok, nothing to worry about... Maybe she was misremembering her own skin.

And it just goes on, it getting harder and harder to come up with an excuse, and every day she notices and tries to write it off, the next discovery happens faster. Because each day, her shame starts to grow. This can't be happening to her! She's supposed to be a hunter. These were just supposed to be a birthmark. If these are acting like actual patterns, then...that means she's...

And of course she's terrified to tell Celine. She can't tell Celine. She's a ten year old kid who's figured out something is wrong with her, she should tell her guardian, but Celine had always been adamant about how hunters treat things with patterns. When will come a time where Celine can't just tell her that she's not one of the demons they hunt?

And so she does what any kid would do: she tries to hide it. But, also just like any kid, she's terrible at hiding it. And when Celine inevitably finds out, the resulting shame from getting caught and then the guilt of keeping a secret actually cause the patterns to grow right in front of Celine. Just a little bit, only a few inches up and down her arm. But for the first time, it hurts when they do.

And Celine...handles it. Not well, but not terribly, either. She manages to calm Rumi down, mostly with the promise of the golden Honmoon fixing things. She promises to help her select a new wardrobe with longer sleeves. But she also realizes that there's a time limit that may be approaching faster than either of them thought, so the pressure to push Rumi forward into the spotlight to get working on the Honmoon mounts.

The patterns slow in their progress now that Celine knows. Rumi didn't have to hide them from her guardian as much (she knew Celine didn't like looking at them but she was at least aware of them). She still beat herself up anytime she thinks she failed something, which causes them to inch up or down just a little at a time. But she finds if she just throws herself into more work and training, she can get her mind to stop dwelling on stuff like that and the patterns stay where they are.

It gets easier once Huntr/x starts to form, with her new teammates being the much needed relief to her self-doubt. Any time she's about to mentally beat herself up for something, there's Zoey gushing about all the things she did that were amazing. Any time Rumi starts to think of herself as a fuck up, Mira jokes that they were all losers and they should just own it. And her confidence is infectious.

But then they start growing again, as the shame in hiding it from them mounts. The longer they go on, the more famous they get, the closer they get to their goal - it's all based on a foundation of trust and Rumi knows her portion of that is sand. They trust her with their lives, and she wants to trust them with hers, but she's only able to share half of her life with them. And the longer it goes on, the worse it gets, spreading down her arm, across her chest, over to her other arm (she'll never forget the night the patterns found her heart - she spent the night writhing in bed, a blanket stuffed in her mouth to keep from screaming in agony).

But she just keeps changing her outfits, wears longer sleeves, starts wearing turtlenecks. She's already anticipating having to cut out crop tops from her fashion line up, but the patterns end up not growing down.

They go after her voice instead.

Post canon Rumi telling Mira and Zoey that they're forgiven for the event of the movie. That she doesn't care, and she doesn't blame them, except Rumi in an very Rumi typical emotionally unavailable fashion is lying.

She does blame them, she is angry, she had been hanging by a thread for years and they took their weapons and cut that thread. They believed it was her, they knew it was her, there was no accusing her of being an imposter or asking where she is, they spoke to her...not a demon impersonating her and still raised their weapons. Still betrayed her.

Her self-loathing justifies it for her. It's why she ignores it. It's why she pushes down every flare of upset at them for it because well... she kind of deserved it.

But as she loves herself more, the more she is angry at them.

The other two are aware Rumi isn't as fine as about the idol awards as she lets on. She refused to even look at the contract selling the rights to takedown, she doesn’t spar with them when weapons are involved...even the fake ones, if they tug her clothes even a little she tenses, they sometimes hear the aftermath of nightmares....and fuck they feel guilty for it but its fine because Rumi let's them help with those things.

She let's them ease her into being comfortable around their weapons again, working up for hand to hand to actually showing their honmoon weapons for real.

She's slowly more and more okay with them and her clothes. She even let Mira help her shrug off a coat after getting home the other day

When she has nightmares, she lets Zoey into the room to bring her down from the following breakdowns.

Rumi is okay, she's letting them in.

Except she's not okay, she's so angry, and those little acts of care from them sometimes only make her angrier.

Maybe she's having a bad day, and she's short with them. Quiet, passive-aggressive when she does speak, resting bitch face, shooting down things she'd normally welcome. Zoey and Mira let it happen for a bit, we all get in a mood sometimes and they figure this is another sign of Rumi's improvement, she's showing her emotions.

Except the bad days become a pattern, she gets meaner every so slightly each time.

It comes to a head when one of the other girls snaps back at her.

I vote Zoey because she deserves a chance to be one of the ones getting pissed off for a change. She deserves a break from being the unproblematic understanding mediator

They get into an argument over what the fuck is Rumi's problem, she's being a bitch for absolutely no reason, why?

Rumi insists that it's fine. They're being crazy, just because she gets a little annoyed sometimes means nothing. Of course, they aren't having it.

"Why won't you tell us, remember last time we kept secrets? You can trust us!"

"Oh, I think the last time I kept secrets is proof of exactly why I can't trust you."

And it's a slap in the face. She's spent so long assuring them that she forgives them for the Idol Awards, they were just starting to forgive themselves.

Mira and Zoey setting up all sorts of easy openings for Rumi to come clean, and then one day she finally comes up to them all shy and nervous and they think this is it—

“Guys, I…I’ve been meaning to tell you this for a while… All my life I’ve felt…different…and I haven’t been able to tell anyone before but you guys are always just so nice and accepting so here goes: I’m gay”

*Mira and Zoey collapse to the floor in defeat*

Rumi is really bad at hiding her demon half. Her patterns glow when she feels strong emotions, one of her eyes turns gold when angry or stressed out, she growls and purrs, her claws are incredibly sharp, her senses are far beyond human, all in all Rumi is absolutely terrible at hiding her demon half.

Rumi is convinced she's doing an amazing job at hiding it.

Mira and Zoey clocked onto their leaders half demonhood within a month and are working to make Rumi feel safe enough to come out to them.

Celine knows Rumis cover is blown, and she keeps meaning to talk to her about it, but she keeps putting it off. But come on, Rumi always looks so proud of herself when she talks about how good she is at hiding it, she'll be devastated when she finds out! Celine doesnt want to do that to her!

Even the fans know Rumi isn't human. They thought it was a gimmick at first but she's always "in character". On stage yes, but also at fan signings, meet and greets, and even just walking on the street. Its gotten to the point where most serious fans genuinely dont belive shes human.

#WhatDidMiyeongFuck is trending after almost every one if Rumis appearances.

The only person Rumi has fooled is Bobby, and thats because when he approached her about the rumors Rumi panicked and made up some fake skin condition and said she was really insecure about it. Bobby now spends way too long working with PR to try and squash the rumors and making sure Rumi never hears about them.

You people are running out of things to say about this movie im crying

I know people say HUNTR/X reminds them of the Trix (Winx Club) or the Dangerous Ladies (ATLA). I think it's fascinating in general how iconic girl groups in media are generally three in number. But anyway, I remember you were in ATLA a while back. Do you see the resemblance there?

I saw the Dangerous Ladies trio in Huntr/x before I even saw the movie! I watched the trailer once and saw good versions of all three of those character types. (The Leader, The Deadpanned One, The Cute/Funny One)

I've also seen the girls compared to Totally Spies and the Powerpuff Girls. There certainly is a trend in media that feature three female characters who share a close bond

I just love when a fandom unanimously agrees on a headcanon that has minimal to no canonical basis. Like, no, there is nothing in canon to support that, but it is Law nonetheless.

Take Kpop Demon Hunters. There is no canonical basis for

Rumi being a plant mom (okay minimal for that one)

Mira having been a classically trained ballerina

Zoey having a hundred plushies

Celine being tragically gay for Rumi's dead mom

And yet I have not seen a single person refute any of these.
