“so, how was mom as a kid?”an eyebrow raised slightly as she looked at charlie. curiosity taking over her. legs folded as she sat on the couch in his house. “what was she like? i mean, was she always SUCH a nag? she told me off for not tidying my room the other day.”

AMUSEMENT CLOUDS HIS features at renesmee’s inquiry. " growing up, she mainly spent the summers in forks with me. your mother was a good kid. ” charlie informs truthfully. “ once she was a teenage though        i think she got her free spirit from your grandmother, renee. ” and isabella swan got his stubbornness from her father, though that thought goes unspoken.

ESME CULLEN

“alice, sweetie.” a soft smile spread across her lips as she looked at her daughter. oh how she LOVED each and every member of her family. if her heart could beat, it would beat for them. “if you and emmett are detemind to have some… pranks in the house can you make sure it doesn’t involve anything that could potentially SMASH the china.” the smile still on her lips. 

A SMILE MIRRORS onto alice’s features. it’s a natural reaction to seeing the coven’s matriarch. the warmth that radiates off esme can have that effect on people. her initial response to the request is a nod before alice stresses, “ esme        you know i would never try to break your beautiful china. ” she understands the concern, however. yesterday’s fatality was a set powder blue teacups ; it was a true tragedy. “ emmett on the other hand, well he can be a bit heavy footed. ”

BOOTS CRUNCH AGAINST fallen leaves as charlie swan makes his way to his daughter. eyes are wide at the scene before him. concern tethers around the words he airs. “ bells         what happened here ? ”

CHARLIE IS QUICK to turn around. maybe at some point his dearest friend’s son being part of a long line of wolves will become old news ; seeing jacob black in his supernatural form doesn’t scare him anymore        at least not as much as it had at first. the transition back to human still made the chief of police just as uncomfortable though. he has yet to look at the shapeshifter again as swan comments, “ jesus jacob, would it kill you to put on some clothes ? ”

THE CULLEN RESIDENCE never felt so loud. two heart beats fall onto alice’s ears, one human, the other like a hummingbird. the news of a baby was typically exciting for most ; this was far from it. was it even a baby ? perhaps it’s one of her most judgemental thoughts. witnessing her new sister-in-law waste away only enforced her thought of edward’s child as truly parasitic. why humor this any longer ? 

GOLDEN EYES SCAN over to her fellow covenmate in the den. maybe she’s imaginating the tension between the two. either way, what alice has to say won’t be relieving it. “ i’m afraid that it’s gonna kill her, rose. ”

BELLA SWAN

      EYES  STUDY  THE  BLONDE  carefully,   and  bella  can’t  help  but  shake  her  head  in  defiance.   she  was  far  too  stubborn  to  give  into  tanya’s  wishes  so  easily,   far  too  intransigent  to  listen  to  the  other’s  words.

      ❝ —  until  the  words  are  no  longer  true,   tanya.   i  don’t  need  your  help. ❞

GOLDEN EYES ROLL without a second’s thought. she’s witnessing the fire of bella’s stubbornness. maybe her blaze burns too bright. “ then at least tell me what you plan on doing ? ” tanya owes it to the olympic coven at the very least.

“against the wall,” she replies. there’s a quiet tone of sadness to her voice. charlie had helped her a lot with overcoming her depression after Edward left. it had been his persuasion which led her to seeking therapy, although she couldn’t say EVERYTHING to a therapist. who the hell would believe her?  “dad..” she says quietly. “do you want to go to lunch after this?”

THE BOXES MAKE a slight thud as they’re placed on the floor, against the wall. charlie swan had tried to be careful in setting them down ; fragile was scribbled in his chicken scratch on the cardboard. he turns around to face his daughter. a grin spreads across his features at bella’s question. “ yeah, i would like that, bells. ”

“  It’s nice seeing him so happy…we need more of that in this house.   ”

“ EDWARD DESERVES SOME happiness. i can’t help but worry though. ”

SETH CLEARWATER

seth does patrol by charlie’s house pretty regularly, it might be out of obligation to bella or it could really just go down to the fact that he knows how much the police chief means to his mom. the sweet scent of the vampire had surprised him on what he had thought would be a normal patrol.  seth refuses to cut his hair anymore, even when the rest of the pack tells him he should – he likes it long, but he pushes it over his shoulder and looks at the other. “it’s –” he shakes his head, “i don’t know what happened, they don’t normally come this close to town. i scared it far enough that the pack should cut it off. sorry if i scared you, charlie.” 

ARMS CROSS OVER charlie’s chest, contemplation evident on his features. with each passing vampire running through town, it just adds another gray hair on his head. “ you didn’t scare me, seth. thank you. ” in the hurried haze, the chief of police couldn’t remember if he had previously thanked him. genuine appreciation was laced in his words. who knows how the recent events would have transpired if clearwater hadn’t been nearby ; if his heart hadn’t been racing and his thoughts running a mile a minute, perhaps swan would have implored on what the shapeshifter had been up to that would have him so close. instead, charlie rambles on. “ what do we do ? should we go chase him down ? ” calm down, charlie swan !

BELLA SWAN

‘ Don’t sell yourself short Alice…you love Jasper and your family very much so that makes you just as human.’ Alice did always have a way with cheering her up, but at the same time it made Bella feel vulnerable considering she has always been looked after or protected by the cullens. ‘ Alice….sometimes I feel as if me loving him…is a BURDEN on you all.’

HER COVEN MAKES alice humans ; jasper makes her human. for a moment, the thought fills her with a soft warmth. lips tug for a small smile. alas, it’s only temporary. once again, isabella swan has her attention. her head shakes in disagreement. “ no          edward was so lonely before he met you, bella. even more broody than he is now, if you can believe it ! ”

ROSALIE HALE

“i don’t disagree,” it seems to rosalie that all stories start in some form of tragedy, “but even now i’m not sure i want it. not always at least.” she knows saying that to someone like him who embraces this lifestyle so easily might not be the kind of thing to say. she slides a hand through her hair and shrugs just slightly. “there’s some benefits i enjoy – i’m not saying that i never like it.”

DEMETRI’S HEAD NODS, a simple, initial response. her words do not fall on deaf ears. instead, he wonders if her views would be different with another coven surrounding her ; how rosalie’s thoughts might be different if she didn’t stifle her true nature. the olympic coven were a strange breed indeed. “ to each their own, i suppose. i always felt that immortal life suited me more. ”

A STURDY CHAIR is pulled from the table. she places herself down gracefully, now sitting across from corin. " do you remember much of it       your mortal life ? ” it’s not an icebreaker. corin’s words had cracked it already. her typical brazen persona means that there’s no regret in asking. curiosity had been peaked. alice’s memories had been wiped clean ; her past left not one print. you tell her a story, she’ll hang on your words.

TAKE THE KNIFE, heidi. twist it, cause more pain. one step forward, hundreds taken back. they both claim not to care for one another. yet, for some reason her dismissal had bite. best not to acknowledge that, and red eyes roll in annoyance. the tracker leans on the brick wall, arms crossed. do those who walk by see a defeated man ?  “ if i’m alone, then why bother stick around ? don’t be cruel, heidi. leave me be for my own reckoning. ” immortal speaks in dramatics ; it’s a language that many vampires revels in.

THE WALL CLOCK ticks away. it’s what tears through the silence of midnight. stealth was her game. how isabella swan sensed that the immortal had been lingering on her property was beyond her. it’s an invitation that found her inside. oh, what a vampiric cliche. nosferatu be damned ! 

“ I JUST WANTED to make sure you were safe. ” the tone is genuine. though, the precognitive vampire would have much prefered that it was less serious. tensions were high as a supernatural presence brewed in seattle. the safety of forks and bella were a major concern for the cullens and shapeshifters alike. danger was inevitable now ; leading up to it, precautions would be made. 

A LATE NIGHT vision called alice to the swan residence. a force much more threatening than her was keeping close in the precognition. maybe only a possibility, but the immortal hoped that her being near would deter the other. “ i didn’t tell edward, if that helps. god knows he’d have an aneurysm. ”
