Something I find deeply funny in a fucked up sort of way is how ppl are like "oh people can buy steak and lobster and special ice cream and snacks with EBT and that's bad because they shouldn't get to live in luxury off the governments and my dime" when
1) everyone pays for EBT through taxes, technically the people on EBT are paying for EBT the same way people who aren't, because that's how government funding works. They may be paying less but that's because they have less money, otherwise they wouldn't be on EBT, so what you're really saying is that either you don't understand how taxes work or you just don't like that you have to pay slightly more so some poor person can eat
2) they have to cook the food (EBT doesn't cover hot meals) and pay the same amount for steak and lobster and and treats as everyone else (often times more bc they probably live in a shitty area with shitty grocery stores but anyway) and
3) yeah I mean you can go out and buy a frozen lobster and cook it at home right now too, you can go do that right now whenever you fucking want. You have the Capitalist Freedom (tm) to go buy a Ben and Jerry's every day forever until your money runs out, because that's how money works. No one's fucking stopping you lmfao, but you probably fucking don't because you have to think abt practicality, abt how the food is gonna get prepared, about how budgeting, because that's how fucking money works. Sure someone could buy frozen lobster on EBT but like. Once lmfao because they need the remaining money for the rest of the month
I swear to God some ppl think of ppl on government assistance like some cardboard cut outs of human beings instead of using any logic abt their position for a single moment

The upside is that there was an absentee ballot recount in our most populated and very blue county and it pushed us over for a blue Senate win. So yay for that because I was fucking miserable seeing the Republican win there too.

congratulations on your little achievements that most people wouldn’t even consider achievements. you’re still making progress even if it’s little by little.

still proud of you even if you didn’t get as much done in 2023 as you’d hope. you still survived the year, and that’s huge.

if u voted for trump, I mean this in the most disrespectful way possible, I do not want anything to do with you. Not only did you vote against basic human rights and equality, you decided rascism, homophobia, islamophobia, transphobia & misogynistic behavior wasn't a deal breaker. i do not want your follow or support ! thank you.

Normalize asking your friends if it’s okay to vent to them. Yes they’re your friends and that’s what they’re for. Also, they are human beings dealing with their own shit.

“We often have to explain to young people why study is useful. It’s pointless telling them that it’s for the sake of knowledge, if they don’t care about knowledge. Nor is there any point in telling them that an educated person gets through life better than an ignoramus, because they can always point to some genius who, from their standpoint, leads a wretched life. And so the only answer is that the exercise of knowledge creates relationships, continuity, and emotional attachments. It introduces us to parents other than our biological ones. It allows us to live longer, because we don’t just remember our own life but also those of others. It creates an unbroken thread that runs from our adolescence (and sometimes from infancy) to the present day. And all this is very beautiful.”
Umberto Eco (1932 - 2016, RIP)
