I want to get back into drawing, and specifically start doing mech art. Beginning this with some sketches of my HG YF-19

My contribution for ESS 2022! Gift for legendofthesevenstars who liked the platonic relationships in the series, particularly between Van and Merle.

Playing around with more of Procreate’s effects and brushes. Not sure I really achieved the watercolor look I wanted. Also I still have no idea what to do for backgrounds—even abstract ones, lol

Warming up for my upcoming ESS piece for this year. Wanted to try some different painting techniques to get closer to Nobuteru Yuki’s style. Also an experiment with the screentone overlay.

Me? Making art? In a style I’ve never tried before?

It’s about as likely as you think.

I’m still in a general art funk (it’s just become a lower priority for me as I’ve been focused on writing and model making), but I felt like experimenting.

My contribution to the Escaflowne Secret Santa 2021! Hielo mentioned a nostalgic fondness for VanxHitomi, so I tried to capture those feelings in this piece. I traded this between paint tool Sai and Procreate, and added some filters through Photoshop. The wings were a fun challenge to render!

Overall, I’m happy with how it turned out. I hope you like it too, Hielo!

Rewatching "A Silent Voice" and had the sudden urge to do fanart!

Experimented with coloring. Turns out Procreate has good watercolor-like textures.

To get myself in the habit of doing more art, I’ve decided I’m going to do a piece for every book I’m reading. This was going to be fully inked and colored, but I realized that it already takes me forever these days to draw, and I’m already behind (I read the book weeks ago at this point). So I’m going to try to get more comfortable with ‘unfinished’ sketches.

So I got Procreate when I got my iPad for Xmas, but I haven't done much w/ it until now. Still getting used to the brushes and interface, but I see a lot of potential in it!

Kind of a cross between Squall’s FF8 & KH looks–I think he’d look cute with a ponytail! Been trying out coloring techniques, finding a process that works for me. For this, I tried following the style of Donique B., whose speedpainting vids on Youtube are excellent (www.youtube.com/channel/UCV9lz…). Very happy with how this turned out, though I still need to practice color theory, shading, ect.

“Come now, boy, we’ve known each other too long to be keeping secrets. What’s bothering you?”

“… what if I’m unworthy, Balgus?”

“‘Unworthy’? Pfha! You’ve come a long way since robbing travelers in the woods, Allen. Your as fine a swordsman as I’ve ever mentored. You will do fine in the tournament. Or do you have such little faith in my teaching?”

“No, of course not! Its not my skills that I doubt. You told me I had to hone myself. I’m not sure I’m ready in my heart.”

“Allen, only you can answer that for yourself. But believe me when I tell you, I wouldn’t have suggested you participate in this tournament if I didn’t think you were ready. And you won’t know if you don’t try. So go on, and believe in yourself. Because even if you don’t, I believe in you.”

My gift to @pikafwance for @esca-ss 2020! They indicated that they liked character interaction, so I decided to make a quasi-comic piece with Allen and Balgus. I imagined this is before Allen enters the tournament in Asturia where his prowess will grant him membership into the Knights Caeli. 

Full disclosure, the town seen in panel 1 is traced from a screencap from episode 6; that’s the bridge where Dilandau almost sniped Van! This is probably one of my most ambitious drawings in terms of complexity, what with the multiple panels, angles, and the horses. I’ll be honest, it was a lot of detail, which was why I skipped properly inking the page and just refining the sketch… which probably ended up hurting the finished product. And I think the coloring is a bit of a mess too. But hey! it was a good challenge, and a learning experience.

I wanted to do Sarah Dandh’s #OC_tober20, but since I’ve got a lot of work and it takes so long for me to draw, I can only contribute sporadically. This is for the first prompt: first OC.
