many thoughts about lauralee and her role in the yj friend group pre-crash. how she was still involved in things, like the party, even though she doesn't drink or smoke or date. how she probably very happily volunteers to be the designated driver for some of them. how she has no problem practicing her faith in front of the whole team. how she's still included in the locker room dances and the little inside jokes. just!!!
#how her parents must so inherently trust her!#they know what she's like so they know she'll make good choices#that she'll strive to be a good person and stick to her guns#but they also have to have a certain level of faith in the team themselves and that's sweet to me

"It has spirits," she clarifies earnestly, and a little urgently at that, eyes constantly flickering back and forth between Jackie and the pantry, where all their teammates [save for Taissa] had just disappeared to, rungs of the ladder still creaking beneath the weight. "But they go to Heaven, or to Hell. They don't linger in the mortal realm." Her grip on the worn leather of her bible is tight, enough so that her knuckles are nearing white, as though by simply clutching it she can invoke the God that she so believes in and enlist Him for help.
"The occult is no laughing matter, Jackie," she hearkens back to her words from earlier today, one final plea to their team leader, an attempt to try and get her to stop all of this before something even more terrible happens to befall them. "And it's not a game either."
in the dim confines of the makeshift cabin they stumbled upon, laura lee and jackie sat in front of each other, ensnared in a mist of grim desolation. empty, cold, demoralizing. who would've thought that they'd end up here? a grand, almost theatrical laugh erupted from jackie's lips, only to be met with a begrudgingly perceptive retort from the blonde across from her. jackie smiles. that cunning smile. she's perfected it for years. faultless, blameless, jackie taylor. ❛❛ lighten up, laura lee. ❜❜ she says it like a weapon. so carelessly thrown with no regard for others, only for her own sanity. [ i will not die here ].
@fsharp asked: how can you even joke about that? [FOR JACKIE, FROM LAURA LEE].
she rolls her eyes before chapped lips part. though she managed to apply a faint sheen of gloss, a futile gesture of defiance against all that they've endured. ❛❛ didn't the bible have any ghosts in it? it's not a big deal. come up and i'll show you. ❜❜ a light teasing evident in her tone. the girls had all just gone up the attic to perform the séance. she eyes laura lee again. not making an effort to conceal her judgment. [ jackie means well, but she will never be one of them ].

was thinking more about it and the sort of ... infantilisation of ll that a percentage of the fandom engages in really quite bugs me? yeah she is pookie and baby girl etc etc and yes she had a sheltered upbringing due to her religious background but it doesn't? diminish who she is or what she's capable of or what she can handle. i see so many people say that "oh she wouldn't have been able to handle what happened in the wilderness", "it was a mercy she died when she did" and like ... idk my dudes, this girl reads the bible for fun, i think she'd have been less freaked out than she's given credit for
#some crazy in there. truly crazy#even with her not being catholic + therefore not believing in transubstantion - the leap is not that large!#she could make it! she could connect those dots so quick if her brain needed her to#yes i think ll maintains her sense of faith all throughout her time in wilderness#do i think her faith itself and how it manifests and what it inherently is remains identical? hell no#girlie is coming out of those woods with a solid 40% of her faith being whatever she and lottie and the girls have cooked up#survival methods and coping mechanisms ftw i guess

something i have noticed in my lauralee-specific rewatch that i have not noticed on my callie-specific or just general rewatches is that ... lauralee and van seem to be? Good Buddies. and i just really like that detail :~)
#yes van is just Friendly overall and no doubt good buddies with everyone on the team but!!!#i think it's cute!!!#they're talking together in the bg of a good few scenes .. one of the photos in the class reunion slideshow is of them ..#van (+ lottie) are the first two to run to lauralee when she uhh discovers where coach martinez is#i also just think. lauralee also enjoys Pop Culture (though hers has to be more hush hush bc duh) so i think it cld be#something they bond over. idk

"Hi, Shauna." Somehow, she's the one left to look a little like a deer in headlights, not expecting the company in this mess of nature; the sound of sloshing comes from the bucket in her hand as she slows to a stop, Mary Janes sinking a little into the dirt beneath them. "No, no, sorry, I – I was just finishing cleaning up the attic after ... you know." Her eyes drop from Shauna's scrutiny, as though she's nervous even to acknowledge the goings-on upstairs mere hours ago. "I didn't want to get rid of the water so close to the cabin."
She's been on high alert since the events of last night, nerves frayed and mind running a couple hundred miles a minute. There's only so many times that she can recite the Lord's Prayer before the words begin to blend into one another, lurching around inside of her mouth like they've lost their way, stumbling in the dark. The occult is no laughing matter, she had said, and their laughter had so quickly turned into screams, and whatever whoever it was that had a hold over Lottie. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against spiritual hosts of wickedness. Though this is hardly a heavenly place to begin with.
"Are you – okay?" Sincerity rings true in her question, the space between her eyebrows furrowing a little as she catches on to the way Shauna's positioned, and the lack of colour in her cheeks.
@fsharp finds Shauna feeling unwell the morning after the seance...
The seance had been just a game. She was happy to go along with it, at first. But maybe it was a stupid idea, ultimately -- Jackie had good intentions, but it had clearly upset Lottie... and Laura Lee for that matter. But Shauna hadn't been a vessel for any spirits. Even a silly childhood game took on a dark, ritual meaning here in the woods. And everyone's nerves were about as tense, moods as precarious as the twine tied to the knife last night.
The sword of Damocles was hanging over their team but Shauna couldn't feel anything but comfort in being the one holding it aloft.
She didn't believe in ghosts, not really. The only thing Shauna had within her, though, was this baby which only Tai had learned about. No devils, no fever, no spirits. Not even any food, which made this morning exceptionally difficult as a wave of nausea passed over her. The only comfort, at least, was that given the team's situation, it wasn't unheard of for girls to feel sick or dizzy. Lottie was sleeping off a fever and her new self-inflicted wounds. So it wasn't like anyone was going to point a finger at her and cry morning sickness.
Still, Shauna wasn't particularly thrilled either way as she trudged off into the brush while everyone else seemed otherwise occupied. She knelt down near a tree and braced herself against it, head hanging over the rough earth below. She watched some sort of beetle crawl away while her mouth began to salivate dangerously.
Privacy was a luxury in their bid for survival, though, and it wasn't long before she heard the crunching of twigs nearby. Shauna coughed, wiping her mouth before turning her head to see --
"Oh... h-hi, Laura Lee. Did -- were you following me?"
#feminaferitas#feminaferitas: shauna.#honestly i do believe lauralee was on high alert the day after the seance for any signs of possession and all i can say is Bless Her Heart

as i've been slowly making my way through laura lee's scenes, i've come to the realisation that her version of christianity is just ... warm. and it's fitting, with how much of the imagery + symbolism that we get with lauralee is sunlight, sunshine, heat, but like. she's not a bible thumper (excluding the very literal time she thumped lottie with a bible when she was maybe possessed). she has faith, and she's not afraid to express it, but she doesn't push it down people's necks. she doesn't insist that they practice what she does, or believe what she does. when lottie comes to her and asks about when people had visions in the bible, what lauralee says is what she was taught. even that simple way of expressing it – it's not a definitive, she's not saying it IS the case, she's saying that it's one way of understanding it, that it's her way, and i think that's just so beautiful
#religion /#SORRY FOLKS IRISH PERSON HERE THE VAGUE TRAUMA IS UNFORTUNATELY IN MY BLOOD AND IN MY BONES#but idk not to like - overstate the importance of a supporting character in one season of a show but#it's been a little bit? healing? to see a religious character not be portrayed as being a vindictive evil two-faced villain#and i don't say that in a woe-is-me way bc i am Not Religious and that also is sadly how. a lot of religious ppl in this world do be#but moreso that. the warmth with which she practices her faith makes me feel a little more cozy with that faith altogether.#it makes me sad that it's not how the faith is commonly practiced. that it's not the way i was raised w religion.#smth smth about lauralee being a good and true christian and being the kind of christian that her god would approve of#like hers is a pretty effective and profound portrayal of virtue in a christian context if u ask me–#(but then i also have many thoughts abt the home ll was raised in and what her parents were probably like but i feel like they diverge#from what fanon seems to be so perhaps that's a post for another day rip)

i can't fully articulate my feelings abt this little ... parallel yet but just know that i have them and i have many.
#loz and her little power struggles w/ ben ... how she's not a meek little mouse when it comes to something she believes in#how she's not afraid to challenge authority figures when it comes to something she believes in

laura lee as a fullback + how that reflects her supportive and defensive (of her teammates/friends) nature. she's more comfortable being able to see the whole field in front of her. she's stronger on discipline than creativity, preferring to manage her defensive position and lend support to the attack when it makes sense to do so. how that in turn reflects the role laura lee (would) take on in the wilderness, supporting and defending all of the girls no matter which side of the schism they support. the fact as soon as she steps out of the supporter role and takes her own initiative, she dies.
#it's 4am and i've been bugging my soccer friend w texts about the positions and how they work lmao#anyway MY CARRD IS UP#a work in progress but hey!

i am working on her slides as i type this now but that could be a [10 mins – to 3 days] affair so i am simply. saying it here and now. laura lee is nawt a catholic and i deserve financial compensation for having to read that thought so often with my own eyes in the tags
#i kid it's not that serious#the only two things that point to her being a cat is the name of the camp she attended as a young teen#and the fact that she blessed herself right after allie's shin bone came out to greet them all#THEY'RE THE ONLY TWO THINGS THAT ARE EVEN REMOTELY C*THOLIC ABT HER!!!#lottie's lake baptism is the most unc*tholic thing i've ever seen with my own eyes and if ll was even a non-practising c*tholic she would#not have dreamt doing it.#bc not only is she not authorised to do it it's just not how we do it GHDHGH we don't do the whole body dunkin'#anyway tldr i don't think even the showrunners knew what flavour of christian she was but c*tholic she decidedly was Not

independent and selective laura lee bailey from showtime's yellowjackets. follows canon while also more than willing to explore divergencies. plot driven, low activity. minors dni. heavy and triggering material galore, as the show deals with sensitive topics and has an element of horror running throughout. written by meg, 23, she/they.
PINTEREST. SPOTIFY. CARRD.
