Alright you guys listen up. This is really REALLY important so just do me a solid here and take a minute to read this okay.

A few years ago, a good friend of mine named Whitney Mitchell became extremely sick and had to have both arms and legs amputated. She was given a 12% chance to live but she fought through it and she’s one of the bravest and most beautiful people I’ve ever met in my life.

Today, her mother sent me a message on Facebook saying that Whitney had been targeted by a website called Chimp Mania. I’d never heard of it, so I did some research, and at just a glance I was immediately disgusted. Just the RULES for the website are awful beyond words.

The forum thread for Whitney is mocking enough, calling her a “shefreak” and saying she “plans to knuckle drag again.” The comments say some pretty stomach-churning things, but I decided to leave a lot of them out. A lot of them were photoshopped pictures of Whitney from when she was in physical rehab, replacing her legs with things like fried chicken legs and a map of Niger. This is the only thread I even bothered looking at and I could barely stomach it.

There is a petition to get this website permanently deleted. I don’t know how much good it will do but it NEEDS signatures. It’s got barely any right now and I don’t want this blatant vomiting on human beings to continue.

Alright! Now that we’ve gotten that out of the way, here are the rules and other information for the giveaway:

Only reblogs count for the first prize, because you can reblog this as many times as you want (preferably to your neoblog). Reblogging is how you enter. Liking is fine, but I’ll only count them for the second prize.

You must have an active and frequently used (more than once a month) neopets account, as I want to give this stuff to other fellow neopets enthusiasts.

You must blog about neopets and be on the neopets tag and/or the neotag. This giveaway is meant for active neopets bloggers, because you all make me happy and keep the internet fun.

It would be nice if you would follow me if you aren’t already, because this is a follower giveaway. I understand if like/reblog/follow from a not-neopets main, as I have to do that too.

Your neopets account must have gifts turned on and you must be able to accept the gifts within 48 hours, or else they go poof.

Other things that make common sense (such as don’t message me to rig the giveaway, don’t harass people, don’t light your neighbor’s house on fire).

Ok tumblr, I know the power of the internet so just hear me out right quick as I ask for a simple favor. See those cereal boxes up there? If you buy any Kellogg’s product with that Free Book logo on it there is a 16 digit code inside your box of cereal. Now, when you get three of those codes together you submit them online and they will send you a free Scholastic book. Now I’m sure you’re wondering why I’m bringing it up, so here goes.

I teach first grade at a school where the kids have little to nothing. Through generous donations (government, three square, various community partners, etc.) the kids get backpacks, clothes, shoes, free breakfast/lunch, and some school supplies. The school is not in the best part of town. I’ve had students who live with grandparents because their own parents are in jail, kids who have parents that don’t have custody over them for various reasons, and so on and so forth. Now I am trying to get my kids to read books, but they literally don’t have any books at home that they can use to practice their reading. Sure they get a library book from the school library but it’s not the same, you know? They don’t own the book, it’s not theirs. 

Here’s where you come in. If you happen to buy one of these specially marked boxes and don’t plan on using the code please send me that code through my ask box. If 60 people on here send me a code I’ll be able to get 20 books, which will easily allow me to get each of my students a brand new book of their own. I used the Fly Guy books above because my kids are currently obsessed with the character and the book has sight words that we’re working on in class. Even if you have no codes, I’d appreciate the signal boost as well.
