Canadian Army Sgt. George A. Game of the Canadian Film and Photo Unit operates his camera, filming action while kneeling between the corpses of two dead German soldiers during the Battle of Ortona of the Italian Campaign. Ortona was the site of fierce fighting between the German 1st Parachute Division (1.  Fallschirmjägerdivision) and the 1st Canadian Infantry Division. The ferocity of the battle led it to be known as the “Little Stalingrad.” Near San Leonardo di Ortona, Province of Chieti, Abruzzo, Italy. 10 December 1943. Image taken by Canadian Army Lt. The 100th anniversary of the beginning of the Battle of Passchendaele, Flanders Fields.
Today we remember all those who served (animals too) and the sacrifices they made.
Launched on July 31, 1917, the British offensive in Flanders had aimed to eliminate U-Boat bases on the coast and further shatter the German army. But unceasing rain and shellfire reduced the battlefield to a vast bog of corpses, water-filled shell craters, and mud. The attack ground to a halt. The British lost an estimated 275,000 casualties at Passchendaele, while the Germans suffered 220,000.
The Canadian Corps arrived in mid-October to relieve Australian and New Zealand troops, They achieved a series of limited victories, while suffering almost 16,000 killed or wounded.
Passchendaele is remembered as the low point of the British war effort, and remains synonymous with the terrible and costly fighting on the Western Front.

Hey folks, a truly great guy was robbed on his way home from a tasking in Gagetown. He stuck around for his troops past the end of his contract and as thanks for his service the people of a grateful nation broke into his car and stole his shit. Any help to back him up and get him back on his feet would be appreciated. This godfundme was set up by his troops, he only learned shortly after of its existence.
