it's always so fascinating and heartbreaking when a character in a story is simultaneously idolized and abused. a chosen prophet destined for martyrdom. a child prodigy forced to grow up too fast. a powerful warrior raised as nothing but a weapon. there's just something so uniquely messed up about singing someone's praises whilst destroying them.

Sonas

Currently, I have 11 sonas (furry and otherwise)!

Morgan - puppet - "collective" sona, holds all the other sonas in his...blood? Lol. He/it pronouns!

Royce - a combination of a demon, a fae, and a vampire. (Basically just my 3 favorite fictional species to work with, lol). He's actually a "collective" too, able to break apart into the three corresponding sonas. He/they/it pronouns!

Radish - fae, has a demonic appearance though! Mischievous and a little bit feral. It/he pronouns.

Rogue - demon, one of my older sonas repurposed! Charming and playful, they/he pronouns.

Richard - vampire, has the most human appearance I think of all of them? Just bc he looks like a vampire, lol. He/him pronouns.

Toblerone - mouse! A little brown thing with a tentacle parasite that turned it into a predator instead of prey. (Unless you are HKZ, a fursona made by @im-gonna-eat-your-eyes, who likes to play cat and mouse. <3) he/they pronouns.

Trash Fire - a scruffy possum that works at the equivalent of a Spencer's with his best friend and may or may not also go out and be gay do crimes. He/it pronouns.

Vibe Check - a laid back raccoon who is the hostage best friend to Trash Fire. Works at the Spencer's equivalent with Trash and does not get paid enough to find out whether Trash is being gay or doing crimes.

Bagel - a tall, at LEAST half feral hare that is kept somewhat sane by a demon eye that it wears around their neck like the bell on a collar. He/it/they/any pronouns!

Scampion - a short, volatile dalmatian who is borderline sadistic. It would rather kill someone than get attached to them! It/it's pronouns.

Bupkis - a lil androgynous squirrel that rooms with Trash Fire and Vibe Check and is arguably the braincell of the group. Phenomenal chef/baker, and super handy! Always moving around. They/she/he pronouns-

Mingo - another mouse, a white (albino) one with pink accents including trace amounts of...fur dye? Wants to fall in love with a cat. Wish I was kidding <3 (/j)

Shadow magic!!!

So, Jesse has a very LIMITED range of magic. He has a shadow type soul, and I'm not going to speak for all shadow type souls, but Jesse's specifically is very....strict. the shadows are like a virus, made of magic energy. They channel through Jesse, his soul as their "host" that they latch on to.

They have a lot of very consistent behaviors, which is another reason I liken them to a virus. They aren't alive, but when given means to accomplish their primary goal, they can almost seem like it! The fact that their main goal is to get more power solidifies the analogy further.

Jesse is powered by this magic, they do that willingly because they KNOW they can get what they want if they work with him. He's what's known as a Shadow Master, which is an advanced "tier" of the category "Shadow Guide". There's a lot of cultures throughout the multiverse that worship the darkness, believing it can grant them incredible power if they can figure out how to harness it. And they're right.

Jesse can't exactly control them, but he can guide them, and they let him, feeding off of the chaos from situations he uses them in while he feeds off of their power. They replenish each other, even if he's often providing for them more indirectly.

They aren't all healthy, though.

The shadows aren't exactly picky about who guides them but there ARE actually some requirements, you have to be able to handle them. And they can TELL if you can't, and they start to then initiate a kind of self destructive process where they slowly stop obeying, and eventually kill the person trying to wield them. Usually by ripping a limb off, sometimes by knocking them over until they're just so battered they can't go on.

Them moving between realities creates a whispering kind of noise, one only Jesse can hear. They can also wail and howl when in a large mass, and that usually is able to be heard by anyone unlucky enough to be around. The whispering is near constant though, which has slooowly worn down at Jesse's sanity.

This is PART of why he has psychosis. It's like a lesser Chinese water torture situation except nobody else is aware of it. He's put up with it for all 600+ years (canon age), and the reason this is such a prevalent thing is; he wasn't supposed to be permanent.

He was a beta model. He was to be used in combat until he was destroyed beyond repair, and then they were going to make more like him after working out the bugs. He's surpassed that several year mark by 100× in most canons, and it's showing! Even though some variants have just opted to rebuild the physical form as a whole, it's still an issue.

The practical uses for this specific magic type are pretty broad, though!

He can use tendrils to grab things.

He can use large masses like a wave, to knock stuff over or break things.

He can wrap them around his limbs, and move them with said limbs to give himself a boost.

They are sterile. They inherently slowly kill things via touch, so they're devoid of bacteria. (This is why this soul type mostly only works for demons, and now Jesse (who got his soul from a demon technically), because they'd kill anything alive).

When a shadow guide is first starting out, often young demon children, the shadows often take the form of humanoids. Or at least...living things that can be interacted with. These shadow "buddies" help guide the new guide, teach them how to wield then properly and even protecting them to a degree, keeping them from falling over, shielding/cushioning collisions, etc. As the new guide grows more accustomed to using them, the humanoids slowly become less discernable, gradually shifting back into the mass that becomes the guide's oyster.

Sometimes they misbehave, and he definitely has a harder time controlling them when he's freaking out. That's why he's learned to be so confident in combat. As long as he can believe he has SOME control over the situation, he will perform amazingly well under pressure!

Jesse Winters

Jesss originated as an OC from a Bendy and the Ink Machine AU, but not much has changed about him since. His theme is still very geared towards sci-fi (it was a distanced setting for the AU) and he is still the portal jumping multiverse explorer that I originally loved.

His story now is different.

The multiverse houses an infinite number of threats to go with it's infinite spanse. Some more intelligent than others. This story starts with an empire, branched out over many realities, with absolute power over whatever they conquered. Their secret was mass production of androids, very specifically designed to replace living soldiers. They were made to look like the beings they represented, and to function with a full scope of emotion (for self preservation reasons), but still operate under infallible programming that would be impossible to instill in a living mind. Not to mention, extremely unethical.

At some point a project was set up, the goal being simple; to create an android that was powered by a soul, rather than batteries or a power cord. Something that functioned with both science and magic. They chose a soul that typically resided within a demon, and was particularly difficult to get ahold of or replicate, called a shadow type soul. More on that later. They made an android, to a greater quality than some of the others, and he was going to be the leader of the newly established Phantom Unit.

Things were going well, the beta android was very nearly complete with his training and was about to be sent into practical use with a team and everything.

A spy hijacked the ship he was being transported on, and got him somewhere where androids were... rehabilitated. Their trackers cut out, any defining programming removed, their independence enforced. Anything else on the ship was destroyed.

Jesse picked up his name later on, and at first, he went by Phantom, as a nod to his old purpose, as well as a testament to his skill set. The shadow magic that powers him is also his greatest weapon. He has been on the run ever since- at first, it was a matter of retrieving him. But as Phantom's reputation grew, it became a power struggle. He was moving beyond someone they labeled as a terrorist that could be hunted down as a success story- now he was a message about what people's tax dollars were doing!

They'd made a very expensive mistake, and the longer this new "Phantom Viper" continued to run circles around them, the less credit they got for failing to reign that mistake in.

Jesse himself is charismatic and lovable. He's got a strong hate for authority, but a lot of patience for anyone who just.. doesn't know any better. He genuinely hates the idea of having to kill anyone except for the higher-ups in the empire, and he's trying hard to be more than what he was made to be. He has no interest in being a weapon, though he's fantastic at self defense, by now having several hundred years of experience and the original combat training under his belt.

He's 6'4", openly and proudly homosexual, and has very strong paternal instincts- that he's responsible enough to suppress. He lives a life of danger and risk, he's not dragging a kid along with him and he's not going to just leave a kid to fend for themselves either. He wouldn't let himself be more than helpful unless he had a partner, and in many canons, he does!

@im-gonna-eat-your-eyes is the owner of Eightball, who later turned into Fate-! Jesse met Eightball and.. well, one thing led to another. Jesse continues to go on adventures, but he now has a home that he can return to and a family he can rely on.

song that is pretty accurate to the character’s story

song that doesn’t fit the character at all but i was thinking about them while listening to it on loop

song that has one or two lines accurate to the character’s story

song that just kind of is the character’s vibe

song that i desperately wish they would listen to because i personally like it

song that fits the character so well that it’s scary

unsure why this song is in the playlist but it’s so ingrained in my mind as 'part of the playlist' that it would feel weird to remove it

HEY OMG I HAVE A FUN IDEA.

What if we (creators on Tumblr) did an Advent Calendar type thing- but instead of candy it's an OC tidbit or some lore. I think this could be used for just one OC or maybe one story, if said creator has several of those (like me). It could be a really nice method of encouraging people to put stuff out there, maybe some days could be art based- not strictly! Maybe just as an encouragement, or one of 2 options or something.
