2022: Furhoof Year in Review
Thanks to all of you for your patience and support through our 11th year of doing this little thing.
In 2022, Furious Hooves helped to put out 7 brand new releases (5 on tape & 1 on vinyl), 1 reissue on tape, an entire discography (4 albums) on tape for the first time ever, and 2 represses of Furhoof classics on cassette.
We put out a lot of honestly incredible music from extraordinary people this year, which will slip under the radar for many. However, those that do find it are sure to be moved beyond measure. We take our time to put a lot of care, love, and attention to detail in everything we do to make it something special for everyone involved.
We hope you enjoy and stick with us for 2023! And of course, if you’re new, you can always see what we’ve done already, 2011–2022, over on our Bandcamp.
Thank you! Stay rad & be kind, Furhoof.

Premiere: Listen to the New Drew Fitchette song "Bishop"
We’re very pleased to bring you the latest song from Drew Fitchette entitled “Bishop.” It comes from a new EP called ‘Witness Marks’ which is his first collection of new material since his debut solo MiniAlbum ‘None, Too Many’ from 2017.
Drew Fitchette grew up in the Pacific Northwest as a founding member of bands Rooftops and Detlef, as well as playing guitar in a variety of bands like Valley Maker and Furhoof’s own Rainwater. Though he recently relocated to Atlanta, GA, Fitchette’s music will always be tied to the place where he found his footing as a songwriter. Throughout his time collaborating with others there were always works that seemed to exist outside of the projects he was involved in. The need for these songs to have an outlet has led Fitchette to start putting together collections that represent eras of his life and the lives of those closest to him. Whether songs for the people he’s lost, or lullabies for the children of his closest friends, Fitchette will continue writing so long as life continues to give him reasons to.
‘Witness Marks’ is Fitchette’s second collection of songs following 2016’s ‘None, Too Many’. It was recorded over three days at the Way Out Studios outside of Seattle, WA with Trevor Spencer (Father John Misty, Beach House, Valley Maker). Each song was recorded in a single take directly to tape, meant to represent each composition as a living, breathing work. It will be released May 20th 2022 digitally worldwide, as well as on limited edition cassette via Furious Hooves.

Video Premiere: Lamniformes "Deep Despair in Covington, KY"
Today, March 15th, is the third anniversary of Lamniformes’ fantastic album ‘Sisyphean’. To celebrate, Ian shared the long lost music video for the song “Deep Despair In Covington, KY” which was directed and edited by former Lamniformes bassist Parker Langvardt.
Here is an excerpt taken from Ian’s newsletter about the band, drumming, and more… Sign up for yourself here. (It’s really good!)
And if you haven’t grabbed a copy of this album on cassette tape, beautifully designed by Joseph Klomes, you can do so here.
Parker and I originally shot this video in the summer of 2019 in my apartment and the nearby streets in Sunset Park. Parker then applied his skills as a video synthesist to give it the digitally warped look that we were going for. Then after we wrapped the video sat in the vaults for years. Why the delay? Well, we both got sidetracked by other projects, tours, and global pandemics. Still, better late than never.
Moreover, it feels right to release this video on the backend of a Bellows tour. I wrote the lyrics for “Deep Despair” while on my first tour with Bellows all the way back in 2012 (!?!?!) when we barely avoided a broken car catastrophe on the drive from Mufreesboro to Covington. By the time we reached the venue we were convinced that we were cosmically screwed. We didn’t know a soul in Covington and had no idea where we would stay that night, if our car even decided to start again after the show ended. Everything turned out ok, but sitting in a diner as far from home as that tour took us in a rusted over town I felt like I was standing at the lip of an abyss, one wrong step away from being swallowed whole by the world.
Bellows also had an indirect influence on the sound of the song. Before joining the band I had no interest in Mount Eerie or The Microphones. Not out of any disdain for Phil Elverum’s work, it just wasn’t on my radar. Well, after two weeks in a Toyota Camrey with Oliver Kalb my radar was roaring with lo-fi records. While I’ve spent the most time listening to Elverum’s Clear Moon and Ocean Roar, which both got some play in the Bellows-mobile on that tour, it was Wind’s Poem and The Microphones’ Mount Eerie that had the most profound effect on my music. I’ve always had one foot in a combat boot in the world of metal and the other in a beat up sneaker in the world of indie rock. Hearing Elverum try and bridge those two on Wind’s Poem from a DIY songwriter angle inspired me to do the same from the other side of the gap. “Deep Despair” is, as best as I could accomplish, a metal song reaching to shake hands with the world of lo-fi indie. I think I did a pretty good job.

News: Welcome BAL to the Furhoof Family
These are strange and unruly times we live in. At Furious Hooves, we hope we can help relieve some stress by sharing our love of music and art with you. Our latest offering will hopefully take you to another dimension entirely. Please join us in welcoming BAL to the Furhoof Family.
Science Fiction and Rock & Roll have a stellar history. For decades songwriters have gravitated to the idea that humanity is not alone in the cosmos. From Bowie to Radiohead, Klaatu to Hum, the sky is no longer the limit! ‘Seafoam’, the debut album (out later 2022) from alt-rockers BAL (pronounced like “pal” with a B), is the latest addition to this cannon.
In early 2020 longtime bandmates, Jack Foster (House of Fools, Far-Less) and Jordan Powers (House of Fools, Far-Less), decided it was time to look to the stars for newfound inspiration. The pair blasted off, drawing from a love of all things sci-fi, as well as a shared affinity for ‘90s Alt/Indie and Heavy Rock music. The result is ‘Seafoam’ – a grungy space-rock offering that feels as comfortable in your old CD case as it does streaming online.
‘Seafoam’ tells a fresh story in high fidelity. The saturated guitars (a la Silverchair, Failure, or Local H) rarely clean up, while hyper-driving, pocketed drums offer contrast to a generally subdued vocal (think Grandaddy). Recorded by BAL and friends, and mixed by longtime co-pilot Brandon Hackler, ‘Seafoam’ is slated to launch later this year via Furious Hooves. Countdown in 10, 9, 8…

News: Katherine de Rosset's 'The Tower' gets tape & vinyl release!
Happy Bandcamp Friday for March of 2021 & even better, happy announcement of our first release of the year: ‘The Tower’ from Katherine de Rosset! ‘The Tower’ may be her debut under her own name, but Katherine de Rosset is no stranger to creating dreamy synth pop. As Pat Moon, she graced through a tenebrous world by candlelight. ‘The Tower’ takes that candle deeper into the cavernous halls just to break through to a fresh wilderness, reborn amidst a crystal-glow. Call it ambient pop. Call it new age revival. Whatever your mantra, find your ‘Tower’ today on cassette, vinyl, or digital over at the Furhoof Bandcamp. 🌹

News: ZDJ releases 'Sigil Meditation' tape + pamphlet.
ZDJ, in conjunction with Furious Hooves, released a very special album on December 6, 2020. Please read this short piece of background written by ZDJ below:
“‘Sigil Meditation’ is an interactive ritual tool. Since the 2019 release of ‘Heliopause’, I’ve considered writing music inspired by the length and simplicity of Terry Riley’s ‘In C’, the unique healing time warp that is Basinski’s ‘Disintegration Loops’, as well as my appreciation of doom and stoner metal albums from bands like Bell Witch and Sleep. Those inspirations found my desire to release a magickal pamphlet that would share an original and astrologically sound ritual for manifesting intentions that uses my own sobriety as its example. Released on December 6th, my sober-anniversary, ‘Sigil Meditation’ is, in scope and content, a majestic and impressive composition that, when paired with my ritual, will prove itself life changing.”
A limited edition cassette & pamphlet has been carefully created by hand for this very occasion ~ a gorgeous seventy-three minute composition on guitar, Korg synth, midi, and tape loops. Upon ordering — with your consent and a heartfelt promise that ZDJ will deliver good — YOU may provide your birthdate, birth time, and birth location (or the date, time, and location of a significant event to you) and ZDJ will handmake a sigil on your cassette’s artwork. These cassettes are made by hand and limited to 20 units.
There is also a digital version available that comes with a PDF of the pamphlet.
Head to the Furhoof Bandcamp to purchase or download FH-070 (for all those keeping track) from ZDJ.

News: Furhoof Halloween Split 9 from Outer Space... (Copy)
FH-069 // Halloween Split Series No.10 featuring Consulter & Bodyplex.
Halloween 2020 somehow managed to see through the 10th (TENTH!) release in our annual Furhoof Halloween Split Series.
‘Robot & Witch Shadow ©’ starts with Consulter, the duo of ZDJ + Bal Duktė, blanketing you with blown out bliss and introspective progression — a swelling country noise. Then Bodyplex follows with their signature anxiety inducing blend of alternate to pop. All of this begging the question: who is witch and who is robot?
Illustration by Timothy J. Hawks. Design / Layout by Daniel Brady Lynch.
Head to the Furhoof Bandcamp to download for free (just like all of our Halloween splits – just search #Furhoof Halloween on bandcamp).
