i think my favorite thing about hitori is that in terms of running a household or living independently hes been an adult since he was three. but in terms of romance or pop culture he was basically hatched yesterday. hes beyond a normie hes basically a nun
Ive been trying to think of a normal response to this ask for hours but im not normal about hitori so i cant think of one. I also find this funny until i really think about it and then i feel like i have to stare out the window for 48 hours straight.

the first time i played hatoful boyfriend i was like "this is kind of like penguindrum" (depressed guilt complex blue-haired malewife mc + long-haired pretty boy creepy evil doctor + 'silly' teacher gets mad over dead person who spontaneously combusts and pulls out a gun) and i hadn't even gotten to holistar at that point
HELPPP im glad im not the only one. I just woke up so im not gonna be able to string together a coherent take on this but when i finished the first game with my friend i was like “….. have you seen penguindrum..?” And they were like “no but its on my list” and i was like…. We need to watch penguindrum after this. Obvious similarities because they both clearly like to reference night on the galactic railroad aside (tho the way they both use the scorpion’s fire bit is so sick and twisted i deserve emotional comp.) on the very first route i played (nageki) i was hit with the book being brought up to which i immediately went “oh god no not again” and then he ended with “thank you. I love you” orz so i was like GET IKUHARA OUT OF MY HEADDDD
Spoilers for both in case anyone wants to not know v
By the end of the game i found it really interesting that they both had a terrorist attack acting as the central catalyst for the rest of the story. Like this is the main event that kick started the events in over half of the cast. In penguindrum obviously the takakura siblings were children of the terrorists instead of like. Hitori and nageki being the victims (more like ringo) so its not a perfect 1 to 1 since penguindrum goes in a different direction here but i still think they are both very interested in the ramifications of violence specifically on the lives of the children who are left to deal with it. Hitori isnt responsible for what happened but kinda like the takakura siblings (who are not responsible for what happened but feel responsible because of their parents) he spirals and develops a savior complex over it because of the responsibility he felt for his family and then. You know. Nageki is the final nail in the coffin for him.
I could go one because i really love both of them so much but i do have to go to work 😔
