+ GEMI RETURNS TO SEOUL AFTER EXTENDED VACATION IN THE U.S

Spiced’s leader has finally returned back to Korea after a two month stay in her hometown of Miami, Florida in the United States. Since the promotions ended on their ‘Prism’ mini album, the girls have all pretty much stayed low and out of the public eye–or have at least tried to. Gemi’s visits home have increased dramatically over the last year, and many fans think they know why. The idol’s grandmother’s health has been on a steady decline since around Christmas of last year. Gemi has stated in an interview before that she’s tried an infinite number of times to convince her grandmother to move to Korea to be closer to her (or even Japan to be with Gemi’s mother), but she insists on staying in the US. In the last year alone, Gemi has visited Miami a whopping ten times–much more often than most idols are able to go home to see their families. Although, we cannot confirm or deny the reason why Gemi did visit for so long, or even the status of her grandmother’s health, we are happy to say the leader is back, and hope she’s here to stay.

Her return also comes days after the MAMA Awards, which she and Spiced decided to sit out on this year. The group, despite having tremendous success with both their full length album, and mini album, the girls unfortunately did not take anything home. This is the first time since 2011 that the girls as a group, as a subunit, or as a solo act have not taken anything home from MAMA awards. There have been no comments by any of the girls as to why they didn’t attend, nor have there been any comments from their company representatives. Hopefully, with the return of Gemi to Korea, the group will begin to reemerge from the shadows and come back to making public appearances!

+ Gemi displays a softer side of herself for Spiced’s Charity Event! 

Most commonly known for her strong appearance, Gemi revealed to her fans a much softer image of herself throughout the night. From her simple/casual outfits to her stages during the event, seeing this different side of Gemi was highly refreshing. With a lot of recent backlash against the Spiced member, we can see why she might have taken on this route. 

Gemi spoke on behalf of the group and their Foundation twice during the night, along side of member Smiley. Her speech with Smiley was especially sad for fans due to the rapper being unable to participate in this month’s comeback as well as performances during the concert. The two idols addressed Domestic Violence of both the emotional and physical nature, and offered advice and services to those watching who may be involved in some type of an abusive relationship. The two of them also spoke on the seriousness of Smiley’s condition, and how it is important for fans to understand that their idols are people also. The group faced a lot of negativity due to their decision to carry on without Smiley for this comeback, but she addressed and cleared up any misconceptions about this decision. 

Spiced’s leader partook in four stages (outside of the group’s performances), and they were as followed: Thorn (her debut song), Breathe (an original release for the concert), RED (along side of Mellow’s Sophie, Illumia’s Cerise and Siyeon). The singer also revealed a special clip video of another original release with Unplugged’s Rex called “Blue Moon” during an intermission.

“Hello. It’s been a long time since I’ve wrote to you guys on here. Mostly I just put up pictures and go, I’ll be better about writing to you guys more.  But today I want to take the time out to talk to you guys about some things. When I was younger, my mom used to tell me that not every situation needed a reaction. It took me a long time to understand what she meant by that, and now as an adult, living my dream career, I fully understand that. Since 2009, like all other idols, I’ve lived under a magnifying glass of pure scrutiny. Everything I’ve ever done both before and after my success has been laid out and judged by people who don’t know me, nor care about my well being. And that isn’t me complaining, because I recognize fully that it comes with the job. I signed up for this, and despite the difficulties of it, I wouldn’t choose to live another life. Still, sometimes, all the negativity gets to you. Certain things get under your skin and won’t leave no matter what you try. I’ve got a reputation for being not so nice, but anyone who knows me will surely tell you that opposite. But even that hasn’t been enough for people. Despite the person people have tried to make me out to be, I’ve kept going. No matter how many nights it kept me up at night. It took me a long time to understand that I’ll never be able to make people love me, let alone ever like me, and furthermore even trying to get simple respect out of some people just isn’t realistic. And although, my entire reputation has been flipped on it’s head a million times, I never ran away from anything. I’ve taken everything thrown my way head on. I’ve watched a lot of people fold under the pressure and it’s very easy to drown in the negativity. And there’s been times when I was close, but I never gave up. And I won’t ever give up. I’ll always keep fighting. There are some people out here that you won’t be able to please no matter what you do. And I just want you all to know, that rather than waste your energy on them, just live the best life you can live. Everything doesn’t deserve a reaction, true, but in certain times, you have every right to defend yourself. But after you do, let it be done. Move on, and be better than everything trying to hold you back. Some people will be nasty to you until the day you die. Some people will always be ungrateful towards you, regardless of if you gave them the world or not. You can confront them once, maybe twice, but after that, do yourself a favor and treat them like they don’t exist. Trust me, you’ll be better for it.”

SPICED’S RED RELEASES SUMMER TRACK ‘FRUITY’

SPICED’s subunit, Red, has finally returned off their year long hiatus to gift their fans with this refreshing release. The song is unlike anything we’ve ever heard from the talented duo, but the girls definitely did not disappoint! Fruity is an upbeat dance track with catchy lyrics and fun visuals to match–easily taking it to the top of the list for this year’s summer anthems. Gemi and Harlowe compliment one another extraordinarily well in the song, surely making many fans wonder how they lasted this long without hearing from the two of them.

*** Due to unknown reasons, Harlowe did not participate in the making of the music video. However, she did participate in promotional pictures and is credited as the co-writer and the sole producer on the track. It has not been confirmed or denied whether or not the girls will perform this on music shows. So for now, let us all just continue to love this gift from RED!

No promotions for FRUITY.

Spiced’s managers have confirmed that Gemi and Harlowe will not be promoting their latest single on music shows. The girls have decided to sit this promotional period out due to their busy scheduling. They are currently in preparation for their 3rd annual charity event. They are rumored to be gearing up for their second comeback of the year, and are also working on their various solo activities.

HELLO COUNSELOR FEATURING GEMI & HARLOWE! 

Spiced’s maknae line were the featuring guests on Hello Counselor this week along. The panel touched on various topics during the shows, all of which involved women in relationships. At the time of it’s announcement, there were mixed reviews about how the show might go. It’s no secret that Spiced’s leader and maknae are the two most vocal and opinionated in the group (as well as among all female idols), and many were worried that with the two of them together it would be hard for people--mainly the men--would hate to be honest because of backlash they might receive from the two of them. Despite, preconceived notions about how the two of them might act, the pair remained relatively calm and open while both listening and speaking about the issues brought up. 

Gemi did, however, had to excuse herself for a moment during a touchy moment, she came back minutes later ready and willing to listen and answer. She tackled the mental abuse that many men subjugate their partners to, both knowingly and unknowingly. While Harlowe, on the other hand, spoke about ways for women to go about leaving a relationship that puts them down. Both members gave tips on self-love, self-assurance, and self-care and the importance of removing toxicity from ones life. 

AUTHOR’S NOTE: This was the first time Gemi appeared on Hello Counselor since her outburst on the show back in 2014. Polls conducted from the time that episode aired to polls conducted after this episode of Hello Counselor, has showed that people don’t view the singer as aggressive as they formerly did. Maknae and rapper Harlowe’s ratings with fans has also improved since their Hello Counselor episode aired a few days ago, and is now seen as easier to relate to than she has in recent years.

This was one of the most watched Hello Counselor episode’s to date.  Hopefully we’ll be seeing the maknae line on more variety together in the near future.

With week two of No Love promotions rounding out, Spiced has received yet another perfect all-kill for No Love. This is their second perfect all-kill for No Love, and one of over a dozen they have racked up since their debut. With the success (their two perfect all kills, their all-kill, and their six weeks) of No Love thus far, it’s safe to say that Spiced is on the road to a Triple Crown as their promotions continue on into next week. Will they achieve it? (We sure think so.)

Spiced to promote on M!Countdown & Music Bank.

The girls have decided to not promote on Inkigayo for this comeback due to their busy schedules. They are said to have more activities lined up during this comeback than they have ever had. Each member is said to be participating at least three solo activities (variety, photoshoots, CFs, and more) on top of the various group schedules they will have.

CONCEPT

Step 2/3 is the second part of Gemi’s multi-part project, THREE. While strong vocals were anticipated, we couldn’t image the all-star list of features for this release. Seojun of CO:HRT, Bin of OK:GO, E:JEI and Cosmo of UTOPIA, as well as Basick, Bang, and Saint, all contributed to vocals and raps, as well as gave a helping hand in production. Step 2/3 focuses on the aspects of both love and loss within a relationship. From a love that has reached it’s climax, to love that only continues to blossom despite looking into the face of adversity, Step 2/3 conveys it all in four tracks. Gemi’s strong vocals are well matched with each featuring artist on this project. Each song seems to be just right for each artist, and no track is worth a skip.
