“The Good and the Bad: How Social Media Affected Me as a Gen Z Individual”

Social media has a huge impact on me as a Gen Z individual. It greatly affects my life because media has the power to influence my thoughts. This influence is sometimes positive and sometimes negative. Through social media I can express my opinions, I am able to create new friendships, and connect with my old friends or relatives. Social Media can also lead me to people who had the same interests as mine. However, social media is very addicting, the more time we spent on social media can lead to depression, cyber bullying, anxiety, and exposure to content that is not age appropriate.Today’s teens and children are part of the first generation to grow up overwhelmed by technology, and more specifically, social media. There are social media sites used to connect on a personal level (Facebook, Twitter), share photos (Instagram), and even network, find jobs and compare careers. We’ll explore some of the consequences both good and bad of this level of exposure to social media’s constant connectedness and how to address some of these consequences with the young people in your life. How social media affected me as a Gen Z Individual? The pros and cons of social media are clear. On the positive side, social media gives everyone in society access to information and collaboration that has never been possible before. On the negative side, sometimes constant access and collaboration can be abused. Especially if it’s used to falsely accuse or destroy someone’s reputation.

Social Media greatly affected me on how I spend my time on a daily basis. A big part of my time is used up in using social media, productivity has decreased. It influenced on how I deal with my task as an individual. The only good thing for me was I can connect and converse with my family and friends wherever they are and catch up on things.Social media affected me as an Gen Z individual by gathering information through to any social media platforms. It has a big advantage as a young individual like me because I can use this to communicate and socialize to other people even though we're not hung out together. Although, we can't control if there's a bad effect to us. We can watch or get information that were not applicable to our innocence , just like scandals. Also we can gather so much fake news, so were we can used this to share to everybody without knowing if it is legit or not and it cause trouble and misunderstanding to each of us.

The Nature of Digital Divide

In this modern world technologies and internet is already applicable in any kinds of works or many people are using this. But we can't control if there are still people who can't afford to buy technologies or even smart phones, they struggle everyday because they can't communicate to other people from a far. Digital divide was already a nature to us because lot of filipino can't buy gadgets because of poverty. Specially now that we are having a pandemic, a lot of students are struggling to their modules because they can't join a online class because they haven't enough gadget to used. Digital divide mostly experience at school.Yet the filipino people still strive for the better education for their children they tend to sacrifice themselfes in order for them to get the quality education they need and that is why how filipino people are brave enough to withstood such problems in life and they give it with a humble smile in life.

Digital divide here in our country is evident since we are a third world country and still developing. Digital divide is a factor that can hinder our advancement towards development. Filipinos have obstacles in digital divide that they need to overcome and they cannot do this alone without the help of the government. If some of us continue to struggle it would result to being left behind in this modern age of ours today. If we Filipinos, our country are unable to address this and time does not stop for no one this digital gap would only get wider and would be a vital issue for our country.Even some parts of the Philippines could not manage the technology right now in this era but it is introduced in some ways that could help educate the unfortunate,like the people on rural areas or far away from the city proper.

"The Setbacks of Piracy"

Nowadays when you hear the term piracy, the first place your mind goes may not be the bandits of the sea, stealing and plummeting ships as they see fit. Instead you may think about a very different type of piracy, one that lacks eye patch and peg legs, but involves an average citizen with an internet connection and a desire to listen to music. A large percentage of the consumer population would agree that stealing is illegal and that going into a store to take whatever you want is not something they would support. Why then is piracy such a common and alarmingly OK thing in today’s society? Almost 70% of consumers do not see a problem with piracy, and it has become such a common thing that by 2011 approximately 22% of all global internet bandwidth was used of online piracy. The main reasons consumers do not see a problem with piracy are due to the facts that it is so easy to hop online and download whatever you are looking for, and almost excessively expensive to do otherwise. The main arguments put forth against piracy is that it undermines and steals from the people who create the content being stolen. They argue that piracy has a negative effect on the economy by reducing sales in music/movie industries and many other facets.

Pirating/streaming music and movies is the preferred method of acquiring them in today’s society, and I believe that may very well result in the laws around piracy reflecting that. To ruin someones life with prison and debt from stealing 30 songs may be seen as excessive by a society that actively engages in piracy.Piracy has, but even the copyright holders are beginning to accept the new piracy-based industry. Some artists have already taken a firm stand and are attempting to fight against this illegal sharing, but others are embracing and adapting to the new industry.

This media's shapes our society on how we process communication, how we create connection and build bridges. The way our information transfers from one place to another. It influenced the opinion of the people it can persuay and modify our views depending on what is shown in the media what is the shown objective. Media and government are considered as the two most influential institution in the world. Without media we won't be able to notified of what's happening around the world and without goverment, who would discipline and lead us to the right path?

But these two tends to find conflict with each other. They're saying that some news reported are biased. Some journalists oppose what the government is saying which will then give the government the reason to oppose to medias. Its a cycle though.As a result people become manipulated and divided. They have the power to change the views and opinions of people. Come to think of it, without media there is no transparency in the government. It help us to become more aware of what is happening in the government. There is no love and hate relationship towards media and goverment if they will perform their job according to its function. They can't perform well without the help of the other.

Getting people’s attention is not so easy if we are not attracting their interests. Specially now, more are on the side of electronic media. Just like news papers, people who read the newspaper gets fewer because there’s internet that is more convenient but the importance is no less than before. Better we may make use of reading them when we can. Although we can use those people who still love the feel of turning pages or those booklovers, they’ll be the ones who will likely help spread and gather attention from other people. Plus you can make use of things that will make the audience keep coming back and hold the readers attention.

Companies and firms from different sectors submitted to this fact and are now handling social media with full power just as they handle customer service for instance.When people need a recommendation, they post their questions on their social media profiles. Humans tend to latch on knowledge thus making them powerful, but it may represent as a difficult choice on what is good to wrong , using these information and ideas this will help you grow as a person and as a literate individual ,not to grow on self ego and giving bad and unsettling modes .

A person that has gained valuable information have the potential to grow and improve if he/she has true understanding of the information. Sooner, that information will become knowledge and knowledge turns into wisdom. Whatever information may that be, no matter which field that information came from as long as you can and will use it in the long run, the wisdom from the information will make you a person with competence.It can be applied by seeking goals and motivation for gathering information, having goals for your information is a big help for you and motivating yourself or encouraging to dig deep to find concrete information. Which can help you to defend your idea, filtering information can also be useful by adding more idea to your information.

Nowadays, when we write a certain research paper, we tend to rely or find a credible information with the use of internet due to the fact that we are living in modern technology. We tend to forgot the importance of magazine, newspapers, books and other reliable sources.

But how do people find credible sources without the use of internet? Well, let us imagine ourselves without the internet. The use of books especially in the library, there are so many information that we can gather or a credible one. The use also of newspapers and even magazines, we can come up with an idea the moment we read them.
