BRT (Bus Rapid Transit) in Xiamen, China

Yesterday was my first time to take the BRT. I really had no idea what BRT was. I thought it was like the LRT/MRT in our country or the MTR in HK. We rode the bus going to Xiamen North Railway Station. Our students bought the tokens (not cards) we needed to enter the gates. We tapped them on the entrance gates, just like what we do when we take the subway/train. And there was the platform. However, I noticed there was no railway. And it suddenly occurred to me that the B in BRT might stand for "Bus". "But why on earth can a bus has its own lane," I was thinking. And I was not wrong. The bus came and people got on it. It was indeed faster than the regular bus we take going to Zhong Shan Lu. There were fewer stops and since it had its own lane, there was no traffic. The supposedly almost 2-hour ride became lesser than an hour one. The fare? It was just 1RMB more expensive than the regular bus fare. Well, it's better right? :)
