you guys, i have watched the miraculous movie three times so far this week, the fixation is coming back STRONG

personally, I totally agree.

I definitely see where other people are coming from in terms of certain qualms they have with the final episode. My personal ones being that the last episode (part 2) felt a bit rushed and I would have much rather the finale be split into 3 episodes cause I mean- come on, that was THEE episode, the BIG WISH episode, the FINDING OUT WHO HAWKMOTH IS episode. I also was just “ugh no :/“ when marinette tried to give gabriel one last chance- however I will get into why this could have been good? in a moment.

As for chat noir/adrian not being there- yes, I would have loved to have him in the battle, yes he deserved it, but also…. if he was there, I don’t 100% know how we would get another season that wasn’t just “i cant believe my dad was hawkmoth you guys :/“ and I don’t necessarily know if I would have wanted that reveal during the final battle like in the movie (which I really enjoyed! I just would have wanted something new and that we could play off of in the next season).

these “secrets” that are held throughout the show is what MAKES for those good ass episodes or moments which, even if not written how we wanted them, gives us something to look forward to and/or freak out over, or even just good means to keep the plot moving. Adrian/chat finding out that his dad was hawkmoth? marinette/ladybug having to keep that secret? girl i am SAT. That guilt marinette will feel from giving gabriel that second chance as well as then having to keep everything from adrian? maybe thats why she doesn’t want to tell chat, but then what if she does and now he needs to hide why that is affecting him so much? Lila is ofc a factor too, because she is the only other person who knows about gabriel (other then natalie but I don’t think she would tell Adrian) and her sharing that is out of LB’s control.

this all goes for the perception that the ending was too perfect and gabriel was redeemed- its the calm before the storm- they think its all over but it most CERTAINLY is not, ESPECIALLY for adrian. Yes they have a statue of gabriel now, and yes that is jarring 😭 but like op said: there is no way that statue is not getting cataclysmed.

Idk, I definitely see some good angst this season, and maybe a pretty dramatic reveal, and some really good episodes- chat blanc-esque if you will. I think it had to play out the way it did in order to get that. Yes, I would have written some things differently, I think a lot of other people would have too, but if we want THAT reveal, if we want some angst and to be startled the way I at least was when marinette told alya or luka found out their identities, or how chat blanc played out- then the kids, especially adrian, need to be happy… for now at least.

I’ve seen some complaints that Gabriel had somehow been redeemed in the finale, and that the show was disgusting for celebrating an abuser, and like

Marinette made it a point to give Gabriel one last chance to take accountability and finally become a good father to Adrien. Not only did he turn her down, but he straight up attacked her and carried on with his plan, convinced of his own moral superiority the entire time

Whether or not his last act was to bring back Emilie or to try to fix the damage he caused ultimately does not matter. It has been hammered into our brains, repeatedly, that making the wish is dangerous, irresponsible, and a refusal to accept the notion of mortality AS A GROWN ASS ADULT. But whatever the inevitable consequences turn out to be — he won’t be around to experience them.

We know what a redemption arc (admittedly incomplete, but hopefully on its way to being wrapped up in S6) looks like in Miraculous, and it’s significant that this jerk managed to miss all the marks a fourteen-year-old successfully hit:

Gabriel will never have to face any legal repercussions for terrorising an entire city for a year, nor for trying to take over the world. He will never have to explain to Adrien what this cruel charade was all for. This poor child is going to break next season, and that statue is 1,000% getting cataclysmed, but it doesn’t matter. The person who hurt him isn’t there anymore. No justice can be achieved.

In other words, he did not get redeemed. He pulled a Shadow Weaver.

i havent been active on this account in a WHILE and its crazy to see my contributions to miraculous matters from when i was a bit younger (and during covid times). but what a safe space it was for me to absolutely hyper fixate on miraculous with other people that just… get it lol. I still like that, i like nerding out over a kids show, thanks for letting me yall :’)

i’ll definitely be back more, I have so many fics i have yet to read 😭 (finally finished the bakery au, mwah🤌)

something about foreshadowing being more prominent the second time around reading a story but in a way that the meaning is changed forever and you can never view a story the same as you once did before. do you know what i mean.
