She smiled looking over at the girl, she was honestly happy to see a familiar face at the door and someone she could just chat too whenever. As the girl walked in she heard the worst and laughed a little, “We’re having the same problem here, but lets deal with you first.” She stated as they walked in to her room and saw the girls clothes and laughed a little, she nodded, “Well they all look amazing and they would all look great on you, not to mention the fact you would look hot in any of those.” She took a deeper look at the items and nodded, “I think I like the second one the most though.” She smiled looking over at her friend.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Ooh, we are?” she asked, excited to be able to resolve at least one person’s clothing disaster if she couldn’t fix her own. She waited for the other to give her opinion before she pulled the black dress from the pile with a decisive nod. “This one it is.” She set it to the side. “Now, for you. Do you have options? Wanna borrow one of mine?” She gestured to the three remaining outfits. They were around the same size, so Gabriella wasn’t concerned about the other fitting.

“Same difference. Awful people make great friends sometimes,” she shrugged, a soft laugh following her words. A smile continued to pull the corners of Jac’s mouth up as Gabriella continued. “Either way, those’re two great abilities,” Jac nodded her head. “I mean, it doesn’t seem like a sweatshirt that deserves to see the light of day again any time soon after what it put you through. That could’ve been catastrophic.” Fingertips lightly combed through her hair, brushing it away from her face, “I’m Jacqueline, by the way. Just in case you know who to call the next time you get into a fight with an article of clothing.”
Tumblr media
Wasn’t that the truth. Gabriella had to let out a chuckle at that. She wasn’t good when it came to many things, but when she did become friends with someone, she wasn’t bad at that. Her thoughts strayed to her hoodie’s demise, settling on burning it shortly after she got home. Maybe. If she still felt the way she did now, arson it was. “It’ll be lucky if it sees another day.” She nodded and gave the other a smile. “I’m Gabriella. Or, if you’d rather, Sweatshirt Magnet is a good alternative. I’ll reply to both.”

Mitch was probably the world’s crappiest landlord. Carys could have sat down and written a trilogy of novels based on her terrifying and disgusting experiences in that apartment alone. No matter how many complaints she filed or how many times she had to have one or both of her brothers come over to fix something, nothing was ever resolved. “To be honest with you, I rarely ever showered at my apartment.” She explained with a chuckle, sipping slowly on the piping hot liquid in her mug. “I would usually either go to a friend’s house and use theirs or I would use the women’s locker room at the university’s gym. After Holden and I reconnected, I started showering here.” The memories of that apartment still haunted her, making her feel poorly about Gabriella living there.
The young woman had become a little sister to Carys, feeling as if she were meant to find her at some point in life. Right now she was struggling as she herself had been at that same age. Why not give her support and somewhere to come when she felt alone and helpless? “You can come here anytime you need to. No matter what day it is or what time it is, you have a place here if you should ever need it. Even if it’s just to use the better water pressure.” She ended that sentiment with a chuckle, hoping to get her to crack a smile instead of thinking about the horrible night she had just endured.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Gabriella nodded at the thought of showering at the university’s gym; the thought hadn’t crossed her mind before but was now sounding like an excellent idea. She blew on the surface of the liquid in her mug, attempting to get it somewhat cooler before she consumed any. “I should’ve asked what you did first,” she decided, “I’ve been rinsing my hair in the kitchen sink like an animal.” She could get a majority of her showering done in the shower, but the pressure (or lack of one) made it impossible to completely rinse her hair from conditioner without some help.
The thought of coming in the middle of the night made her stomach knot, uncomfortable with the possibility of needing to rouse Carys – and Holden – from their slumber for any reason. She knew if she voiced any concerns Carys would try to smother them, though. “Okay,” she focused on the amber liquid in front of her and took a tentative sip. “The same goes for you, but I don’t imagine you’ll ever need to come to my place for any reason. Not when you’ve got –– all this.”

Martin studied the wooden figurine in his hand. He’d stayed up late the night before carving it, adding all the finer details - the swoop of the mane, the precision of the hooves, the twist of the horn… He’d wanted to make sure it was perfect. And yet - “Four year old girls like unicorns, right?”
Tumblr media
Gabriella looked at the figurine with surprise. “Did you make this?” she asked, though she could tell that it wasn’t some manufactured piece. The quality was over the top, something a younger her would’ve held onto into adulthood. “But yes, yes, girls like unicorns forever, pretty much. Deep down, anyway. It’s built in to our biology or something.”

“– Hey.” His apartment building wasn’t one of the finest establishments downtown. In fact, some could use the words run down to describe it, but the smile on Grayson’s face when he opened the door, phone in hand, to welcome her in helped brighten the dusty pale blue walls of the dimly lit hall. At least it was clean-ish inside, his manic cleaning session on January 1st partly maintained through the month since. “I’m kinda surprised you came,” He admitted once she was inside, showing her way to his room, where he resumed his spot on the bed and continued to prep his bong for their smoke session. “I don’t normally do this - randomly invite people over, people I barely know, but you seemed cool, ‘n I promised you a rain check on getting some of that company. What’re we drinking?”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
When Gabriella received the text with Gray’s address, she was pleasantly surprised to find that it was only a few streets away. It was a surprise that they hadn’t crossed paths sooner than they had, considering it had only taken her a few minutes to make her way from her own home to his. A soft smile appeared on her face as he answered the door and she walked in at his welcome. “Why wouldn’t I?” she asked, confused. It had only been a few minutes since she agreed to come over in the first place, she couldn’t fathom a reason why her mind would change so rapidly. Especially when he was giving her the chance to ignore whatever was going on with her. She took her place beside him on his bed without hesitation, taking in his piece as she did so. “I’d lie and say I don’t normally come to stranger’s houses, but,” she shrugged and gave a soft laugh, “I’m just that kinda girl.” At the reminder of drinks, she lifted her hand to reveal a grocery bag with two bottles. “Rum or Fireball,” she answered, “it’s what I had on hand.”

Hearing the water turn on in the guest bathroom, a sense of relief washed over her. Carys knew that Gabriella could beat herself up quite often, putting blame onto her own shoulders that simply didn’t belong there. The young woman reminded her of herself in that way, feeling as if she were a burden to those who loved her instead of a welcome guest in their home. It was how she felt after her attacker found her once again and she was forced to stay with Holden for her own safety. She felt as if she were interrupting his life and causing him stress he didn’t deserve. But it led to them living together permanently and taking an incredible step in their relationship, which she was beyond thankful for.
Once the water turned off, the brunette made her way across the kitchen to the stovetop so she could start the pot of boiling water. It was an action she did almost nightly, curling up by the fireplace with a mug of hot tea as she waited for her boyfriend to arrive home from work. That routine had been her favorite way to unwind after a long day of classes for as long as she could remember. A few minutes later and the kettle was whistling to indicate that the water was ready, her fingers turning off the burner and grabbing the handle to bring it with her to the island.
Her young friend arrived in the kitchen just as she poured the steaming hot water into two separate mugs. Her mug had a little painting of Zeppelin on it that she had bought from a shop on Etsy while the mug she chose for Gabriella had a floral design on the front. Her comment made her chuckle as she thought back to the shower in her old rundown apartment. If she could, she would upgrade that shower for her friend in a heartbeat. “Do I remember it? I still have nightmares about it.” She said with a chuckle, setting a tea bag into each mug and pushing the floral one towards the other female. “You’re welcome to shower and stay here anytime. You know that.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Gabriella eyed the design on the front of the mug as she reached out for it, admiring the intricacies of the flora. She was relieved that the conversation was steering away from her night and rather to a much more comfortable subject. Her finger ran over the design, feeling the slight texture against the ceramic. “I don’t know how Mitch gets away with it,” she complained, as though she’d bothered to file a formal complaint herself. She knew the potential for retaliation was high if she did and she didn’t really want to entertain the idea of finding a new place.
She nodded. “I know. I just don’t wanna bother you. Plus, you learn how to manage.” A lift of her shoulders, sure that Carys had found her own way around the difficulty that was the shower in Gabriella’s apartment. Her own resolution resulted in her sticking her head under her kitchen faucet, which had twice the water pressure as her shower. “I’ll try to come under better circumstances next time, though.”

When the woman was ready to go, Kiera followed her in waving goodbye and leaving. She was friendly with most of the sales associates in the store, especially those who were there from the beginning, when it was owned by Bianca’s father and the backroom served as a playground for the two girls. “And why didn’t you get lunch?” Kiera asked, as if chiding her. It was true that Kiera had a tendency to show concern, to strangers and those she held near and dear alike. Gabi happened to fit into the latter category, almost as somewhat of a younger sister after getting to know her in Portland.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kiera’s tone made Gabriella’s eyes widen and she gave her companion a half-hearted shrug. “I–I don’t know, I just didn’t...think about it, I guess?” She hadn’t even thought about eating until it was practically dinner time, when her stomach had grumbled in response to her lack of nutrition. She thought about adding that it happened all the time, realizing only after she’d opened her mouth that it was probably a bad addition. “It wasn’t on purpose. Plus, we’re going to eat now, aren’t we?” She raised her brows, not sure why she was trying to explain her way out of whatever she’d gotten herself into, anyway.

The second Morgan realized it was her friend Gabriella instead of just a random customer, the raven haired girls smile was wide and immediately, placing a bookmark in her novel and pushing it to the side. “If it isn’t my favorite girl to share a name with one of Vanessa Hudgens characters. Heya, Bri.” Leaning hands on the counter, she made her arms rigid and held herself up as she leaned over her friend, sticking out her tongue. “Shifts over in twenty. Can you wait that long?”
Tumblr media
God, High School Musical. The time of its popularity only further tormented the brunette because she’d gone to school with a Troy; her peers couldn’t let either of them live it down, despite the obvious dislike between the two. She let out a wistful sigh at the thought, glad that the movies were no longer mainstream media. “Heya, uh – yeah, no, I’m at a loss for any characters that start with Morgan.” She paused in thought, trying to think as the other spoke. “Fuck. Yeah, I can wait. I apparently have to spend the next twenty researching characters named Morgan.”

Joel was hiding in the shadows of the porch shivering. Hunched over to conserve some body heat, all he could muster was a “H-Hi.” He shuffled over to her and then looked at the door. “ Thank god.” He mumbled. “ Can you do it without breaking a window?” He asked nervously. “ I dont want you to hurt yourself.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The thought flitted across to offer up her jacket, but she realized her small frame wouldn’t provide much more comfort in the time it would take her to open the door before the question came to her lips. She gave him a soft chuckle and nodded. “Yeah, I can manage without breaking a window.” It wasn’t very helpful when people knew someone broke into their home; she’d learned how to get into a locked apartment before she’d completed grade school, thanks to her ever-attentive parents. “Just gimme a second and you’ll be nice and warm, promise.” With the assurance, she walked to the door and pulled two bobby pins from her hair, quickly manipulating them into lock picking tools. Minutes later, she turned the knob and stood away from the now open door with a look of triumph on her face. “Tada!”

“I mean, I’m trusting you enough to sit in a car with you even though you might be like an ax murderer or something so don’t take advantage of my naivety, please.” That charmingly cheeky grin lit up his features one more time as he mulled over her ideas, nodding along to them all. “Those I can all do, happily, too. And if you ever need someone to do the heavy lifting I can’t think of a better person to call than me. Or maybe The Rock, but I doubt you’ve got his digits.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“An axe murderer?” Gabriella let a laugh out at that. Sure, she had a less than savory side, but anyone she’d never put anyone in the hospital –––– not for longer than a few hours, anyway. “I promise I won’t kill you,” she offered, giving him a shrug. Her head shook from side to side with lips pressed together. “Unfortunately, Dwayne’s not on my contact list. So you’re my number one.”

Joel: I swear to christ I will tell no one.
Joel: Be warned, I am 6ft 5 and I have a very small towel wrapped around my waist.
Joel: Hurry I have lost feeling in my foot.
Gabriella: omw
Tumblr media
Gabriella shook her head at the other’s texts, placing her phone in her back pocket, before she slid on her shoes and a jacket. She plucked a pair of bobby pins from the counter on her way out and worked them into her hair as she walked toward Joel’s house. When she arrived, she found herself unable to suppress another small fit of laughter at the other. The text was one thing, but an actual visual was entirely different. “Oh, sweetie,” she said, her tone laced with sympathy. “Don’t worry, Gabi is here to save the day.”

✉ : Chandler  ⇆ Gabriella
Chandler: Are you offering to come check on Lia for me?
Chandler: Because I think she'd really appreciate that.
Chandler: Me too, of course. You know, so I don't have to worry about her.
Chandler: 7:30 it is.
Chandler: Actually Lia has requested I cook for the two of you. If that's ok??
Chandler: I'm honestly pretty good at it.
Chandler: You can always bring another dog. Always.
Chandler: [UNSENT] I'm so glad I ran into you. I thought about you for weeks after that night. It feels like kismet, but I'm scared. Everything good in my life ends.
Chandler: Tiramisu or Cannolis?
Gabriella: I mean, Lia /does/ need some one on one time
Gabriella: It should come from someone we know she likes, and since you won't be there…
Gabriella: She did, huh?
Gabriella: That's fine, I'll be on my own though
Gabriella: I'll save the dognapping for next time
Gabriella: Either works, surprise me?

Joel: Err let me just check.
Joel: Shit I bent over in a towel as a young man walked by.
Joel: No its on the wall by the door.
Gabi: Well I might know someone that knows how to pick a lock
Gabi: Provided that the knowledge that they can pick locks stays relatively secret, anyway
Gabi: Not really something this person I know likes to advertise
