~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The afternoon sun was nearing the peak of it’s sweltering heat as it beat down relentlessly on the group, halting their previous mission of getting the equipment unpacked and into the house to set up nerve center, the 6 of them taking up refuge under one of the trees that ran along the side of the wrap around porch.
“Jesus Christ, I hope it cools down in there during the night.” you said with beads of sweat trickling down your neck, taking a large gulp of your now lukewarm water as you considered how it was even possible that the inside of the house was even more stifling than that of the outside.
Even the grass surrounding the property, unkempt and long and probably crawling with ticks and other insects, no doubt suffered from the suns unrelenting wrath as it claimed the moisture from the earth and left it dead and brittle. It could damn well be mistaken for hay at this point.
“Why don’t we continue the murder reports?” Bill suggested from where he laid on the ground a few inches away from your feet. Nothing else was probably going to get done until dusk and hopefully it would be cooler by then, not to mention it didn’t seem like any of you were going to move from the shade anytime soon.
“Are you good to go?” Zak directed the question towards you and you just waved a hand dismissively in his direction, to hot to even bother saying a simple ‘yes’ or ‘no’. “Alright, let’s see here,” he began as he held his hand over the top screen of his phone to counter the suns glare as he squinted at the words that seemed to have shrunk in a matter of hours.
“Alright so,” he trailed off as he scrolled to find where he had previously left off, “the fifth victim was found outside and it was the murderer himself, having thrown himself off the third story of the house. He was covered in blood that was determined not to be his own.” Zak said as he used the back of his hand to swipe the sweat from his forehead. “the initial search of the basement showed blood splatter across the floor that lead to a pool of blood that seemed to contain remnants of flesh, bone and hair, but no body.”
“The Amity horror house has nothing on this.” Jay muttered as he adjusted to a more comfortable position, the dead grass crunching beneath him as he did so before his solemn eyes went back to Zak.
“The next victim to be found was that of the mans elderly father on the second floor,” Zak lifted his eyes from the screen to cast a sympathetic look your way,”this next part gets pretty graphic are you ok with that?” by now you had gone way past the point of caring, you entire body and mind were completely over heated at this point and you were listening to the story in somewhat of a daze, the information not even processing properly.
“Upon finding a trail of blood leading from the top of the stairs into one of the upstairs bedrooms, they found then mans elderly father strung up by a meat hook from the top frame of the sturdy wooden four poster bed. The suspect had taken the hook from the cold cellar where they stored their meat,” he stopped briefly to take a gulp of water to refresh his parched lips. “The murdered managed to bypass behind the left shoulder blade and pierce directly into the heart.
A unanimous cringe flowed between everyone at just the thought. It seemed even Zak was becoming increasingly disturbed by the increase in brutality. “Bloody hand prints and streaks along the wall suggest the suspect had stumbled his way towards the attic. There they found disturbing messages scrawled across the walls in blood, some asking for repentance, others too dark to mention. It was also here they found the eldest and only son.” Zak stopped abruptly before pocketing his phone. “The eldest daughter was never found.” he said in almost a whisper.
“Wait...what happened to the son?” Jay asked as you all sat there in absolute confusion as to why all the other murders had been outlined but Zak seemed reluctant to share the details of this final murder. “Its dark, even for me.” Zak said before casting his eyes to you. ”It’s enough to give even me nightmares, I don’t want to freak her or anyone else out.”
The curiosity was gnawing away at you but so was the anxiety of what could be so horrific even Zak couldn’t bring himself to say it. “Zak,” your voice was low and unsure as you bit your lip, carefully picking what words you were going to say. “we need to know what we’re dealing with. What did this guy do to his son?” finally you cast your eyes to meet his in a reassuring and determined way. Zak sighed, his head falling so his chin met his chest for a brief moment before looking towards the house of horrors as he responded.
“He...he was laying on the floor, there was blood everywhere...his rib cage was exposed from his open torso...his heart was ripped out and crushed...he gutted his own son.”
When Evil Lurks
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The old Victorian style mansion finally came to view from between the densely packed forest. Billy was driving the van up the narrow dirt road while the rest of you listened to Zak as he explained some of the gruesome history the house contained and the reason it wouldn’t sell.
“So back in the early 1920′s, before the great depression, a prominent business man at the time had this house built to accommodate his wife, 4 children and his parents,” Zak recounted. “Of course then came the great depression and because of that his business completely collapsed-” he stopped abruptly before pulling out his phone and opening up a very long worded email.
You let out in an involuntary yawn and Aaron nudged your shoulder while giving you his signature goofy smile, both of you stuck at the back of the van with the equipment. “I know, Zak has a terrible, monotone reading voice.” he joked before leaning over the middle row of seats that contained Jay and Dakota, raising his voice to at Zak. “Hey, can you spice it up a bit. You’re starting to put people to sleep back here.”
Zak turned in the passenger seat to glance back at Aaron, the look on his face screaming that the story was about to get interesting. “Alright, hows this for spicing it up.” he replied as he brought his phone closer to his face to read the tiny text. “With the prospect of losing his house, the husband borrowed money from the only people still turning a profit; the mafia. They had given him 2 years to pay the money back and when he couldn’t revive his old business that fell through the ‘debt’ collectors started coming around and leaving notes about what was going to happen if payment wasn’t made soon.”
He stopped, licked his lips, and continued. “This information all came from the local historian and they still have some of the papers containing these threats as confirmed, documented proof.” he added before continuing the story as Billy finally passed the gates and parked, no one making any move to get out as Zak outlined the threats of violence, threats of sexual assault against the wife and eldest daughter, threats of murder and arson. As the list went on you felt your skin crawl as some even went into detailed scenarios.
“So this was a mafia killing?” Dakota asked, interrupting the sadistic list and thankfully bringing it to an end. You didn’t know why Zak insisted on reading out the gruesome details in full, it was enough to give you nightmares for months.
“From the content of these letters you’d think so, but you’d be wrong.” Zak had that grin on his face that let you know he was about to hit you with some more fucked up shit. “The guy went insane. Killed his entire family before throwing himself off the roof. But the way he killed them is still, to this day, one of the most brutal murder/suicide case this town has seen. He killed them all in different ways, some of the ways were even written in the letters the mafia sent.”
You rolled your shoulders, trying to get the tension out of your muscles as you sat with your arms folded across the top of the seats in front you of you, literally on the edge of your seat as you became more invested in the fucked up history.”Well, let’s hear it.” you muttered, settling back with your head practically leaning over Dakota’s shoulder in anticipation.
“So this is what the police report from that time frame reads; Upon entering the house the first victim they came upon was the mans elderly mother, seemingly pushed over the banister from the top of the staircase and appearing to land directly on her head as fragments of her skull were picked from the bloody mess, her neck also broken.”
“The second victim, his wife, was found in the living area with multiple stab wounds to her neck and chest, the worst part being that they found the knife after hours of searching when someone noticed part of the hilt of it jutting out from beneath her chin. The force used had lodged most of the blade up into her skull leaving only a small percentage visible.”
“The third and fourth victims were found in the kitchen, the 2 youngest daughters aged 4 and 1, both drowned in the kitchen sink. The four year old was laying crumpled and stiff almost a foot from the sink as if her lifeless body had just been tossed away, her hair and clothes still damp. The one year old was still submerged in the sink, her face blue and eyes wide open.” At this revelation you gasped, covering your mouth at the absolute horror.
“Dude this is messed up, I don’t know if I want to hear anymore.” Aaron said, his voice and body conveying how uncomfortable he was becoming. Before Zak could read anymore, you shifted so you could open the van door, the air suddenly becoming too heavy inside and you desperately wanted out.
“Y/n, where are you going? I haven’t finished yet.” Zak asked, his tone going from morbid storyteller to curious concern in a nano second.
“I’ve heard enough. I need fresh air, I need to stretch, and I need to get those vivid images out of my head.” you mumbled with irritation. “I don’t even know if I want to investigate now because I could have done without all those in depth details of the murders. You could of just said ‘she was pushed from the banister’ ‘she was stabbed to death’ ‘they were drowned’ but no, you had to describe it right down to the knife hilt, the skull fragments and the open eyes.” by now you were standing outside the van, arms flailing wildly to punctuate how riled up the story got you.
You didn’t usually get emotional before or during an investigation, but when you did it was almost a full on meltdown. You walked a few feet away before immediately crouching into a squat position, clutching your knees to your chest as you tried to best to contain the watering of your eyes before they became full blown tears. You could faintly hear Aaron telling Zak off as the guys all began to emerge from the van.
“Well you told me to spice it up!” Zak protested as Aaron walked away from him, agitation and anger clear on his face.
“I meant your voice, jackass.” his voice was right behind you and the next thing you know hes crouching down beside you, a hand gently rubbing your shoulder in a soothing motion. “Are you ok?” his voice was softer, his arm draping your shoulder and pulling you into his side now as he began to rub his hand up and down your arm. “shhh don’t cry.” he cooed. To you this was worse than any horror story or scary movie because this was real, these people were real, and you were now at the place it had all happened.
“Listen, Y/n, I’m really sorry.” Zak said as he shuffled over to you. “It wasn’t my intention to scare you this badly. I was just reading what the historian sent me in an email. I guess I should have toned it down.”
You waved your hand dismissively towards him. “Don’t worry, just give me a few moments. I’ll be fine.” you choked out, Aaron motioning for Zak to leave by tiling his head.
“We’re gonna get through this together, ok?” he said before placing a kiss to your temple. “We’re the scaredy-cat siblings, remember?” he said with a slight chuckle, bringing up the team name some of the fans had given you. “Now let’s get you some water and let Zak finish with the briefing, alright?” he said as he helped you to your feet and brought you back over to join the others who were already busy emptying the equipment from the van.
“I’m sorry for being a big wuss, I just don’t like hearing about children being victimized.” you said as you walked over to Zak, Aaron leaving to fetch you a bottle of water from the cooler that was buried underneath a mound of electronics.
“I know, and if you want to sit this investigation out I understand. You can be at nerve center or in the van, wherever you want.” he replied but you just shook your head.
“This place is huge, you’re gonna need all the help you can get and I feel like I’ll regret it if I don’t participate.” you admitted before letting out a giant sigh. “And-and if you want to continue to read the details of the murders I’ll do my best to keep quiet.”
“How about I only mention the necessary details of the last ones.” he said, giving you a warm smile.
“That would be even better.” you replied, a shaky chuckling leaving you as you nodded your head, Zak pulling you in for a hug before gathering everyone around to finish where he left off.

Hide and Seek
Based on the Twin Bridge Orphanage episode
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Tumblr media
The fog and ominous grey that shrouded the small town only added to the eerie sadness that accompanied the history of the current location. The orphanage had laid abandoned for decades, virtually untouched by civilization and never truly investigated. Until today that was.
The sky had barely changed colour all day, only growing shades darker as night fell and you began setting up. Hearing the accounts and memories during the preliminary interviews made your heart ache. How could anyone do that to innocent children?
“Y/n, are you alright?” Billy asked, noting your unusual silence as you organized the gear into groups on the table to make it easier for the guys to grab what they needed and go. You were always talkative during the pre-investigation, but something about this place just got to you.
“I just feel...off.” you told him, your voice an octave shy from a whisper and it made him worried. This wasn’t like you at all. “Alright,” Zak’s voice barked, gaining the attention of the rest of the crew. “Camera’s on and let’s begin.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You were paired up with Billy and Jay, the gymnasium being the target destination while Aaron and Zak explored the main building. The vibe was creepy as the 3 of you used the tiny LCD screens to maneuver the darkness. Just as you guys were about to cross the threshold into the dilapidated building, noises began to emanate from within and the atmosphere took an even darker turn.
“Do you guys feel that?” Billy asked, his voice conveying the fear he felt and you felt it too. Something was in there and it didn’t want you impeaching on it’s territory. A loud bang sent the 3 of you jumping backwards, your arms breaking into goosebumps.
“Zak come in.” Jay called on the walkie but received no response. “Aaron do you read?” he tried for the other man, still nothing. “Where the hell are they?” Jay muttered before continuing his attempts to get in contact.
“Maybe we should just go find them.” you suggested, wanting to get as far away from whatever was lurking in the darkness.
“We can always come back later.” Billy added, both of you looking towards Jay as if the decision rested on him. “I don’t have to be asked twice.” Jay said as he took the lead and began heading back in the direction of the main building.
Zak, Aaron!” the three of you began to call into the pitch black hallways, their voices answering from a distance and you followed until you found them at the pool.
“Guys you would not believe the evidence we’re getting.” Zak said excitedly as he held the digital recorder while hanging off the century old ladder.
“Why don’t we play a game.” Aaron suggested, the kid in him surfacing in the presence of what they told us was a little girl spirit. “I’ll count to ten and you guys can hide around the pool area.”
You were the only one that agreed to go hide, Zak too busy conducting an evp session and Billy and Jay setting up an experiment with a ball. “Ready?” Aaron asked. “Yep.” was all you said as you took a deep breath, a chill running up your spine at the thought of being on your own for any amount of time in this place.
“1...2....3,” he began counting and you used the camera to locate a good spot in the run down locker room just off the pool room. You didn't want to venture too far away. “Ready or not here I come.” his voice bellowed and your blood ran cold at the silence that followed. It was almost as though the whole world had come to a halt in those few moments.
“Found you, hehe.” the childs voice followed by and ice cold touch on your hand startled you so much you couldn’t help but scream. “Y/n?!” the 4 male voices called out for you, the sound of their shoes hitting the concrete in quick feats as you pulled yourself from your hiding spot, a space between what seemed like broken lockers, and went towards them.
Without paying attention you were making to exit the room when you collided with one of the sturdy men, another yelp escaping your lips as two hands tried to secure you by your upper arms but that only made you jump back and away.
“Y/n, what happened?” it was Zak, his voice filled with concern as he once again approached you. “There was a voice..something touched me.” you stumbled over your words, still trying to get over the shock of what had just happened.
“What did it say?” Jay asked as you left the locker room with Zak, the other 3 curious as they followed behind you. It all finally clicked. “It said ‘Found you’...because we were playing hide and seek.” you told them and a small smile formed on your lips at the experience.
“I hope you got it on camera.” Aaron said and sure enough, after the investigation was over and the evidence was reviewed, there was an orb of light that flew towards you in the darkness that you hadn’t seen at the height of a child accompanied by a barely audible voice and a chilling giggle.
