I made a separate blog so I don't have to bother anyone I know in real life about whatever I'm currently obsessing over any more than I already do & this is it. A lot of classic who.

She was a true friend.
@niko-week Day 5: Niko and Charles
#so one of my firm beliefs re: niko's cliffhanger & adapting the comics#was that she went someplace at least similar enough to where hana was that the same method of reaching her applied#and only charles could do it thanks to edwin's lack of a proper body/burial#so season 2 would've made up for how little they interacted by making charles her primary scene partner outside of the sprites#& yes that's totally unsubstantiated by anything any of the writers have ever mentioned but it's still what i choose to believe#if i ever do anything with the vague post tv canon fic ideas i've had that's absolutely the direction it would head in#thanks for coming to my ted talk & goodnight everybody

that said you can tell who’s just having a knee jerk “motherhood is oppression” reaction to belinda’s plot bc they’re saying things like “she was an independent career woman who never wanted a baby!!” when actually ☝️ she’s far too underdeveloped for us to know that about her at all lmfao. it’s worse than “she didn’t want kids” it’s “she was a totally blank slate onto which motherhood was crudely forced.” it doesn’t go against her character bc she didn’t even get one in the first place
#yeah i hate to say it but the biggest Question of the Season that the finale answered is 'why was belinda so underdeveloped?'#& it's bc she needed to be to play this exact function in the finale and it Not be wildly out of character#the only other way it could've been in-character was if you spent waaay more time (more episodes per season & multiple seasons i think)#crafting a really well fleshed out character with multiple different -possibly conflicting/competing - values/desires#like at least somewhat in the vein of amy pond#and failing that you had to leave her a fairly blank slate#there was no amount of character development that could've fit safely in this short season that often shoved her to the sidelines#and made a compelling & full character who also would develop such a strong attachment to such dissimilar timelines#like the one thing we did know from the start was she wanted her life back. did she get that? no.#but do we know what about it she actually wanted & could she have been happier with things this way too? also possible!#tragically we just never knew her well enough to tell#rip

the way turlough bullies his only school friend in mawdryn undead is literally so funny. there’s no better line in dr who than when his normal 1980s human friend asks what the futuristic alien technology is and he says “a transmat capsule… don’t you know anything?” in the meanest little voice imaginable

characters who are undead. characters who die in the end and so they've been dead from the start. characters who are chased by death. characters that chase death. characters who died and came back to life. characters that die again and again and again. characters who consider their past self dead. characters who were born in someone else's corpse. characters that claw their way out of the grave. characters whose deaths leave such a gaping wound that even their absence is still a presence. characters who are emissaries of death. characters who are alive but consider themselves dead. characters whose deaths are ambiguous. characters whose existences are defined by death.
