this weekend the weather was pretty gloomy but last weekend was positively gorgeous. T and I went to Tillery St Plant Co and picked up these cacti and a lil agave plant. My dreams of having a yard with giant cacti in it is slowly becoming a reality!! So grateful for Tyler's green thumb and landscaping knowledge!

easy weekend projects to cross off the never ending to-do list:
* finally finished hanging the open shelving over the kitchen island
* my take on this this DIY Coat Rack
* also screwed some hooks into the bottom of that IKEA Lack shelf for our keys.
I’m going to start setting money aside to slowly buy lighting for the kitchen. I want to replace all the fixtures, but it’ll drive me crazy if I only do one at time since I plan on using different metals. The existing ones are nice I suppose but I am just not into them, especially the island pendants. They’re all also totally off center, like everything else that was “updated” in this house before we bought it, so I REALLY can’t wait to switch them out for something else.
Also on the to-do list is to re-label all the jars. The current labels were my first experiment with my Silhouette CAMEO machine (kind of a lofty goal for my first try huh? whatever) and I think I can definitely do them better a second time around with a better material.
Every to-do list should be a good mix of your big projects and small easy to accomplish projects so you don’t get burnt out. Small victories y’all!

Okay I know I can’t paint *everything* black, but seriously, how amazing does this look? With the cream paint, white cabinets, and light light blue glass tile backsplash, the whole kitchen was just very....beige.
Soon there will be open shelving above the countertop and one day all the lighting fixtures will be switched out for something a little more my style. Also on the wishlist is new barstools (but three instead of the two I have currently).

We got two of these Eyeball Sconces from UO to hang above our nightstands, but they come with these awful generic white cords. Nothing a couple coat of matte black spray paint can’t fix!

OF COURSE the first thing I want to do when I own my first home is paint a wall in my bedroom black. Finally done with landlords and security deposits and someone else’s rules! So here we are. Again, Benjamin Moore’s Black Beauty in matte. Bedroom of my dreams here we come!

For our anniversary, we adopted another dog! Well, Tyler adopted the dog and I paid for it as part of his present. Her name is Mathilda, Mattie for short. She is so great and has brought so much energy into our lives and my dogs lives. At a year old, she’s a handful but she’s great. Also I can’t stop taking pictures of her. Those eyebrows!

When your house is still full of cardboard boxes, the smallest victories mean a lot. Our coffee corner is one of my favorite little spaces in this house so far. I finally framed that coffee print I got like 4 years ago in Nashville at Hatch Show Print and my dear friend Candyce got me the French Press print for xmas this year. We use this space every day (multiple times a day, lets be real)!

Tyler spent the week of xmas in VA with his family so I put my energy into doing things around the house.
I painted the wall above the fireplace Benjamin Moore’s Black Beauty and my FAVORITE painting tip to get that perfect clean line from the wall to the ceiling: after you tape your edges, get the paint of the wall you’re covering up and paint the tape edge. Paint always seeps under even the best of painters tapes, but doing this will seal your tape to the wall preventing the new color from being the one that seeps through! Love it.
Secondly, I installed our TV wall mount and mounted the TV all by myself! All! By! Myself! I was pretty proud about that, still am. Called my dad and he kept laughing at me saying “you are stubborn as hell.” Yeah, yeah I am.

not pictured: most of our junk. but I tried to get our bedroom in a reasonable state so I could relax. can’t wait to see it come together.
first up for the bedroom: paint the back wall, hang our wall sconces, build the second nightstand.
first up for the living room: paint the wall above fireplace, hang the TV, build the mantle, create built-in bookcases on either side of the fireplace.
but for now, some much deserved sleep for the both of us. tomorrow we have tickets to the nutcracker. 😊
