Chollima Ushers in Era of Miracles

The Chollima era is proudly etched in the course of development of the DPRK replete with creations and transformations.

In the stirring era, all the Korean people, upholding the ideas and leadership of the Workers’ Party of Korea, continuously made great leaps forward and innovations in every field of economic construction by waging a dynamic struggle to increase production and practise economy.

They broke from the existing concepts and formulas at their workplaces and thereby achieved remarkable successes in economic construction one after another.

Everything was utterly destroyed in the Korean war (June 25, 1950-July 27, 1953) which was unleashed by the US imperialists. In the period of postwar rehabilitation, the economic situation of the country was so difficult that the great leader Comrade Kim Il Sung said that 10 000 tons of more steel would greatly help the country. In hearty response to his appeal, the workers at the then Kangson Steel Plant produced 120 000 tons with a 60 000-ton-capacity blooming mill, kindling the torch for great upsurge and launching a drive for increased production called Chollima movement.

Following suit, the workers in the metallurgical industry sector mass-produced section steel, round steel, steel plate and special steel of various sizes, making 1957 a year of increased production.

In 1960 the share taken by machine-building industry in the value of total industrial output increased to 21.3 percent from 17.3 percent in 1956 and the rate of domestic supply of machinery and equipment reached 90.6 percent as against 46.5 percent in 1956, fully displaying the potentials of the country’s machine-building industry dashing towards socialist industrialization.

The railway workers manufactured an electric locomotive in a short span of two years entirely by their own efforts and technology. Until then electric locomotive was regarded as an ensemble of modern electrical engineering and machine-building industry and made only in a few developed nations.

Builders constructed a large vinalon factory in a little more than a year in a patriotic bid to establish a modern, self-sufficient chemical industry base.

Large power plants including Jangjingang Power Station No. 5 and small- and medium-sized power stations were built across the country, creating additional generating capacity of 93 000 kW of electricity in 1959.

The coal-mining industry developed many coal mines, large and small, thus securing 3.5 times more reserve coal in late 1960 than that in 1956.

Dynamic mass-based movements were launched under the collectivist slogan of “One for all and all for one!”

A typical example was the Chollima workteam movement. More than 8 600 workteams across the country took part in this movement in less than 18 months after it started and various other movements named after Chollima were launched throughout the country.

In the flames of great Chollima upsurge, the First Five-year National Economic Plan was carried out in two years and a half in terms of the value of total industrial output and in four years in terms of items of products. And industrial production increased at the annual average rate of stunning 19.1 percent from 1957.

In the era ordinary persons developed into heroes and heroines and created what they called miracles of Chollima and the spirit of the times. The revolutionary spirit and work style of the heroic generation in the era is still carried forward generation after generation as an element of ideological and spiritual features and mettle of creation unique to the Korean people.

Shuddering Germ Warfare of U.S. Imperialists during Korean War

Pyongyang, July 2 (KCNA) -- During the Korean War (June 1950 - July 1953), the U.S. imperialists committed shuddering massacres, unhesitatingly using even germ weapons against the DPRK people in wanton violation of international law.

The U.S. imperialist aggressors found a way out in the germ warfare as they suffered repeated defeats from the beginning of the war by the powerful counterattack of the Korean People's Army.

The U.S. imperialists massively spread smallpox virus to Pyongyang, Jangjin, Kowon and Yangdok areas, fleeing owing to the KPA's re-advance. At that time, thousands of people suffered from smallpox in the areas, and 10 percent of them were dead.

The U.S. imperialists killed many innocent people by spreading the lice contaminated with typhus and recurrent fever pathogens in houses along the highway, and selected bacteria with high infectivity and mortality, strong resistance and different latent periods. As a result, epidemics including pest, cholera and typhoid fever spread rapidly and many people were dead or disabled, suffering from the diseases.

The U.S. imperialists dropped various kinds of germ bombs for over 800 times in more than 160 areas of the DPRK between January and March, 1952.

The number of planes involved in the criminal germ warfare amounted to one quarter of the planes involved in bombing the DPRK and to 480 on one day.

History has so far not known a precedent of the germ warfare which is large in scale and vicious in means and methods. Thus, the world public and media revealed that the brutal germ warfare waged by the U.S. imperialist aggressors in the Korean War is the largest-ever germ warfare in the war history.

At that time, a member of an investigation team of the Women's International Democratic Federation, too, denounced the crimes of the U.S. imperialist murderers, saying that there were no such heinous human butchers as the US scoundrels in the world. -0-

Pyongyang, June 30 (KCNA) -- Fifty years have passed since the February 17 Shock Brigade Movement of Scientists and Technicians was launched.

The movement is a powerful mass technological innovation movement of the Korean style created by Chairman Kim Jong Il in 1975 in order to make scientists and technicians fully solve the urgent sci-tech problems arising in reality with his deep insight into the trend of the development of modern science and technology in which the integration of science and technology and production was being pushed forward.

While giving field guidance at the Komdok Mining Complex, he took a revolutionary measure to dispatch scientists and technicians from various fields to the complex and relevant units, thus kindling the first torch of the shock brigade movement of scientists and technicians.

He indicated the detailed orientation and ways for the shock brigade activities and established a well-regulated work system. And he wisely led the movement to display its advantages and vitality in annals of the revolution and construction.

What We Must Do in Our Generation

One November day in ２０２１, the respected General Secretary Kim Jong Un looked round the Junghung Farm in Samjiyon City which had been remodeled into an excellent model of cultured mountainous city.

After exchanging greetings with officials of the farm, he said that the reason why he came to the farm was to want to see farmers full of delight after moving into new houses.

Telling the officials wrapped in deep emotion that all the farm villages in Samjiyon City including those in Junghung had been built well to maintain the flavour of socialism, he noted that those could be acceptable as all of the farmers liked them.

And he added that those were the models of the rural villages which we planned to build across the country in the future.

But the officials could not fully understand him yet.

That day, saying that the seat village in Junghung-ri, was the model rural village and a prototype of rural rejuvenation, continued that it is our Party’s determination to build such rural villages on a high level not only in Samjiyon City but also in all parts of the country.

And then he stressed as follows:

We should spruce up the rural villages across the country at the level of seat village in Junghung-ri. It is not intemperate dream but our fighting task and goal. It is what we must do at any cost in our generation.

At the ４th Plenary Meeting of the ８th Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea held some days after, he advanced the rural revolution programme in the new era and put forward the rural revolution as the supreme task that our generation must shoulder and carry out without fail and said in earnest that we should open a new phase of the rapid development of rural communities by making strenuous efforts to realize the rural revolution and thus vigorously promote the overall development of the society.

Pyongyang, June 27 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun Friday in an editorial says that the Enlarged Meeting of the Twelfth Plenary Meeting of the Eighth Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea is of great significance as it discussed and decided key issues in the struggle for strengthening and developing our Party and state.

The plenary meeting of the Party Central Committee is a significant one which clarifies the guidelines for successfully fulfilling the five-year plan and further strengthening the independence and development potentials of the state economy, the editorial says, and goes on:

The plenary meeting of the Party Central Committee unanimously approved to convene the Ninth Congress of the WPK, another important watershed in the course of the development of our Party and revolution, and decided on the essential issues arising in improving the fighting efficiency and activeness of the basic Party organizations as required by the line of Party building in the new era.

Only when the tasks set forth by the plenary meeting of the Party Central Committee are carried out thoroughly, will the 80-year history of leadership of our Party, which has written the longest history as a socialist ruling Party, shine more brilliantly and another historic milestone be recorded at the stage of the development of Korean-style socialism.

Schoolchildren Meet to Pledge Revenge on US Imperialists

On the occasion of June 25, the day of struggle against US imperialism, schoolchildren met at the plaza of the Victorious Fatherland Liberation War Museum on June 23 to vow revenge on the US imperialists.

Present there were officials of the youth league and schoolchildren in Pyongyang.

First, a lecturer of the Central Class Education House made a speech.

The lecturer said that the atrocities committed by the US imperialists who ignited a war of aggression against peaceful Korea and left indelible wounds in the minds of the Korean people are the crimes that will not be pardoned for all ages.

She noted that schools resounding with schoolchildren's reading and streets and villages filled with joy were reduced to ashes and human slaughterhouses owing to the war.

She called upon the schoolchildren to bravely fight to defend their beloved homeland and schools following the example set by the members of the Children's Guard in the wartime if the enemies dare to invade their country.

Then speeches were made.

Speakers said that the schoolchildren should prepare themselves to be the vanguard fighters in the anti-imperialist, anti-US and class struggle, bearing deep in mind the immutable truth that illusion about the enemy precisely means death and fostering steadfast class awareness, actively aid the Korean People's Army and conduct the brisk do-good-things movement for contributing to bolstering up the country's defence capabilities.

The spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea gave the following answer to the question raised by KCNA on June 23 as regards the U.S. military strike against Iran’s nuclear facilities:

The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea strongly denounces the attack on Iran by the U.S., which severely violated the UN Charter with respect for sovereignty and non-interference in internal affairs as its basic principle, and also the norms of other international laws, by violently trampling down the territorial integrity and security interests of a sovereign state.

Opposing the threat and exercise of force that undermine the territorial integrity and political independence of a country in international relations constitutes the purpose, principles and fundamental spirit of the UN Charter that reflects the unanimous will of the international community.

The present situation of the Middle East, which is shaking the very basis of international peace and security, is the inevitable product of Israel’s reckless valour as it advances its unilateral interests through ceaseless war moves and territorial expansion, and that of the Western-style free order which has so far tolerated and encouraged Israeli acts.

Acts of Israel and the U.S. are amplifying serious concerns as they have further aggravated the tension in the Middle East and brought serious negative consequences on the global security structure by use of physical strength under the pretext of so-called “peacekeeping” and “removal of threat”.

The righteous international community should raise the voice of unanimous censure and rejection against the U.S. and Israel’s confrontational acts.

One day in December Juche 47 (1958), President Kim Il Sung visited the then Onchon County General Shop.

While looking round the counters at the shop one by one, he asked if there were any heating facilities, saying that the shop was cold.

At that time the saleswomen were working at the cold shop because of poor heating conditions.

After learning about the situation, the President said with a very worried look that the shop is a place much frequented by people, so it is need to keep the shop warm.

Looking at the officials, he said that the saleswomen would have a lot of trouble to serve the guests at the cold shop and it would be good to make double doors. He also told the officials to supply the saleswomen with cotton-padded socks and cream.

Afterwards, the President visited the shop several times and showed warm love for the saleswomen.

In Greece, on this day was held the Festival of Alcyone. Alcyone was the daughter of Aeolus, the guardian of the winds, and Aegiale. She married Ceyx of Trachis, son of Morningstar. Their happiness led to them being turned into kingfishers (halcyons or sea-hounds) by Hera. She is regarded as having the power to calm storms. Legend has it that she is the same Alcyone that leads the that leads the Pleiades. When the Pleiades rise in May, the seas are always calmed.

Reckless Military Aid to Ukraine is Suicidal Act of Inviting Disaster: Int'l Affairs Analyst of DPRK

Pyongyang, December 9 (KCNA) -- Ro Ju Hyon, an international affairs analyst of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, released the following article titled "Reckless military aid to Ukraine is suicidal act of inviting disaster":

The Washington Post of the U.S. on Dec. 4 carried an article disclosing the fact that the amount of 155 mm artillery shells the U.S. supplied to Ukraine this year by taking over from the Republic of Korea (ROK) surpasses the amount of shells delivered by European countries by far.

According to it, the Biden administration of the U.S., faced with a difficult task of satisfying the Ukrainian demand for shells, calculated that about 330 000 155 mm shells can be delivered in 40-odd days by persuading the ROK and, on this basis, got down to negotiations on a full scale. As a result, the delivery of shells started from the beginning of this year.

This brought to light once again the truth behind the shameless fraud of the ROK which has insisted so far that it had never delivered lethal weapons to Ukraine.

In April last, puppet traitor Yoon Suk Yeol, in a press interview, made reckless remarks that south Korea can provide weapons to Ukraine in case of serious situation such as large-scale attack on civilians, massacre and violation of war laws, only to invite a backlash from Russia.

At that time, Russia gave a strong warning to the ROK that the offer of weapons to Ukraine would be regarded as an open hostility towards Russia, saying that a new enemy trying to help the enemy of Russia appeared.

Nevertheless, the ROK handed over a large quantity of shells to the puppet Kiev authorities, the amount of which exceeds the one provided by European countries. This is the top-class pro-U.S. act to put even the West, steeped in anti-Russia policy, into the shade.

The political and military gangsters of the ROK have resorted to all sorts of sleight of hand, claiming that they do not provide deadly weapons and that they are working hard to maintain friendly relations with Russia in a bid to cover up their criminal acts. But now that the truth has been brought to light again, world people are sternly watching how the ROK would try to mock the international community again.

It is a vivid manifestation of hostility towards Russia to render military support to the puppet Zelenskiy clique who is waging an unjust proxy war against Russia, a country of the fellow countrymen, as a faithful servant of the U.S. And it is also a war criminal act against peace that instigates the prolonged existence of the bloody Ukrainian crisis.

The international community clearly grasps the hidden intention of the puppet forces of the ROK trumpeting about "arms deal" and derides the dirty plot of the ROK to cover up their criminal nature of getting hell-bent on the military support to Ukraine as the running dog to the U.S.

The wrong choice of the puppet forces of the ROK will inevitably bring only catastrophic disaster and the worst consequences.

Pyongyang, December 12 (KCNA) -- Officials and employees of the Sinuiju Chemical Fibre Mill of the DPRK successfully fulfilled their yearly textbook paper production plan.

The mill has firmly built up its own technical force and pushed ahead with the work for readjustment and reinforcement, while taking measures to timely supply raw and other materials.

True to the intention of the Party to increase the production of reed-made textbook paper, its officials mapped out a plan to attain the goal of paper production and launched a political and ideological offensive to arouse the masses to the drive for increased production.

The raw material shop showed high results every day in the preceding work for paper production.

The workers of the pulp shop carried out their daily plan at over 110 percent.

Workers of the daily necessaries shop have also made progress in improving the quality of products.

The boiler, maintenance, electric and purification shops contributed to fulfilling the plan.

The paper production is steadily increasing thanks to the efforts of officials and employees of the mill. -0-
