@gallifreyloyal gets a starter because i just listened to the devil you know.
“— — NARVIN, I —” she opened her mouth and then promptly shut it. For once, just this once, Romana found that she could not formulate a response. Perhaps she should have left him to his solitude, reason dictated that would be the… wisest option, but she was desperate ( and selfish ); she needed validation, absolution: it was only the two of them now. They had to have each others backs. “I made a mistake, I shouldn’t have — I should have KNOWN better. I should have — damn it — LISTENED to you and now because of my arrogance LEELA could be —”
there were very few things that could drive narvin towards his liquor cabinet. narvin glared at the decanter on the table, with its stopper still sealing the bottle — while he’d satisfied the urge to take it out, he hadn’t quite gotten to the point where pouring a glass seemed an adequate enough measure of grief.
in the past couple of decades, narvin had certainly found the humility to be able to admit that grief was what he was feeling right now. he’d felt fury when braxiatel had reported ace’s death to them — but leela’s disappearance ( he refused— refused— to give it anything more ) had hit him hard. harder than he would have believed.
narvin still hadn’t said anything when he stood and walked over to rifle through his glasses. but he pulled out two, and set them down heavily on the table.
❛ yes, you should have, ❜ his tone was cool as he poured them both a drink. ❛ it was a gambit at best and you knew it. but leela knew it too. after all, she knew the risks associated with the master perhaps even better than either of us. ❜

“You’re right, it’s not. My name’s Zoe. It’s… Well it might be a pleasure to meet you, if it weren’t for the circumstances.” She watched his attempt to access the computer curiously, and as he drew out his data pad she leaned a little closer to try to read. It seemed an odd tool, given the circumstances. “What are you going to do with that? Write your memoirs?”
After she got a good glance, she turned her attention away. She could certainly analyze his screen from memory, and there were more pressing matters. Anticipating the same result, Zoe nevertheless reached out to touch the control screen. UNAUTHORISED ACCESS. Zoe tsked annoyance.
“Ooh I thought you’d say that,” she addressed the computer crossly. “Well you’re certainly not going to beat me so easily.”
narvin was already well into a series of calculations on his datapad when zoe poked at him for it. he glanced up at her from over the edge of the screen, exasperated. ❛ write my- of course not! this is a CIA issued datapad - i should be able to use it to remotely access this ship’s computer, add in my credentials - if i can just bypass the security protocols put in place. ❜
clearly, this was the part he was having trouble with. he thumped the tablet hard with the back of a hand, face creased into a scowl. it did nothing to help slow down the wave of error messages bouncing between the ship’s relay and his own. and then there was the other issue — the one standing next to him. the only other living being he’d seen on the ship, save for the - deformed alien hounds that had corralled them in this room. he heard another battering against the door, the metal creaking slightly.
narvin knew why he was here. he couldn’t figure out why she was.
❛ how did you know this ship was in danger? ❜ he asked suddenly. ❛ there was no distress beacon. ❜ he had scanned for one upon arrival. the whole ship had been radio silent.

“Well you don’t waste any time getting to the point.” Zoe stepped back from the door, giving the stranger a curious look before striding towards the control screen set in the far wall. He had said thank you, at least– but it was a little strange to see how quickly he moved on.
“I don’t, yet. I only know I can’t find any of the crew. I was going to try to recover the footage from the security feeds… I’m sorry, who are you?”
❛ i already thanked you for saving my life, ❜ he reminded her, seeming almost offended as he followed her over to the control screen, shoulders tight and expression tense. narvin reached out to touch the screen, trying to get it to come up. ❛ now i’m just trying to make sure it wasn’t for nothing. oh, come on. ❜
UNAUTHORISED ACCESS, the monitor read, and narvin scowled at it, reaching into his pocket and pulling out his data pad.
❛ my name is narvin. you said the crew, not your crew. i take it this isn’t your vessel -- so who are you? ❜

❝ Don’t let them erase me. ❞
the adventure zone sentence starters!
❛ don’t you think you’re being just a little melodramatic? ❜ narvin seemed exasperated as he paced the small room, gaze fixed to the datapad in his hands. ❛ although i’ll admit- it doesn’t look particularly good. they have a rock-solid case against you, romana. all of their details lined up into neat little rows… somebody’s gone through a lot of trouble to frame you. ❜

@quitelogicalreally liked for a starter!
relief washed over narvin as he stumbled through the doorway and heard as the door hissed and sealed itself again behind him. there was a loud CRASH! as the bestial aliens he’d been running from smashed into the bulkhead, but the metal seemed to hold against them. at least for now. escaping death by mere seconds could be incredibly humbling, he realised, as he looked to the woman who had been on the door’s controls. the wiring had clearly been reassembled on the fly. to hack it, just to let one person - one stranger - through? he wasn’t sure if he’d have spared the effort, had he been in her place. narvin straightened himself back out.
❛ - it seems i owe you my life, and my gratitude. thank you. those creatures, do you know what they are? ❜
#quitelogicalreally#v; coordinator of the cia.#really just wanted a scenario where zoe saves narvin's life :|#apparently

@riastartha liked for a starter!
❛ i know what this looks like, ❜ narvin spoke very carefully, unsure whether it would be wiser to raise his hands or to keep them exactly where they were. his fingers itched to move towards the staser’s trigger, but he resisted the urge for the moment, instead keeping the weapon lose in his grip. ❛ but i swear, this wasn’t my doing. i’ve only been here for a few moments longer than you. ❜
which, of course, would have been more than enough time to dispatch the woman currently laying dead at his feet - but he hadn’t, and hopefully this man wouldn’t know enough to call him on his bluff.
#riastartha#v; coordinator of the cia.#i'm good with throwing narvin into a quasi-historical romp if you wanna use your main verse#but i left it vague in case you wanted to use your star wars one or another! :)

she copies his expression down to the creased forehead. he did apologize–frankly, it was more than ellie expected out of him–and is minding her “pointers.” (if she learnt anything about time lords, you have to take what you can get with them. and they think humans can be stubborn.) whether or not his compliance lasts is a matter all on its own. ellie cast narvin an appraising once - over, frowning.
this is going to be a long day.
‘ … hm? yeah, that’s me – ‘ funny to think a time existed in which an alien knowing her name would have weirded her out – ‘ yeesh. pull back on the enthusiasm, buddy boy. you’re gonna make this awkward. ‘
“coincidence” is one word for it; “goddamned lucky” is an alternative. she folds her arms beneath her chest and shrugs. ‘ something like that. i’ll admit i’m a little… surprised. fuck if i know what they’d wanna know about this dump aside from “hoard pesticides” like they’re gold. ‘
narvin reached up to pinch the bridge of his nose, closing his eyes briefly as his day went from bad to worse. despite romana’s assurances, he felt like little more than a babysitter at the moment - and apparently the person ( the child! ) he was supposed to report to while on this earth hadn’t even known he was coming, let alone why.
❛ so what you’re telling me is that you have absolutely no idea why i’m here, ❜ narvin surmised as he lowered his hand from his nose to his chin, rubbing it idly.
❛ alright. i’ll simply be the one to have to brief you. put simply, i’m not here about your planet’s epidemic, at least not directly. it’s not my field of expertise. the lady president wants me to survey your universe’s timelines. please tell me you are, at the very least, familiar with the concept of the web of time? ❜
#likeariddle#likeariddle: ellie williams#v; coordinator of the cia.#narvin: *throws his hands up* HOW do they expect me to WORK like this!!#just wait until he finds out there's not a set base of operations afj;afj

❝ Yeah, well, I mean, that– it was– it was an accident. ❞ Still negligent. And the rest of it was pretty on point. And here he’d thought he’d been doing alright. You know, in general. ❝ Even though it ah, it happened on a… couple occasions. But I guess it says that too. Hey what– what else does that thing say about me? ❞
❛ far more than i can get through in the time i’ve allotted for you, ❜ narvin said, voice dry as he swiped through a few more pages before pocketing the device in the front of his robes. ❛ we might not have even noticed your micro jumps - very little of what you did had any substantial influence on the web of time, despite- ❜ and here he peered at marty with a clear disdain, ❛ what seems to have been your very best efforts. but there was one specific aberration that stood out from the rest. ❜

Ace: Roger that!
Narvin: Roger who?
Ace: oh, never mind. So long Narv! Don’t do anything I wouldn’t do!
Narvin: did- she just call me NARV?
Narvin: you’re being assigned to alpos delta.
Ace: oooh and what’s that when it’s at home?
Narvin: when it’s at…… ugh, more earth slang.
