　…Company? She was requesting his company?

　Well, now this was weird alright. A mild tingle of discomfort still loomed at the thoughts of even considering lowering his guard to her, even when he’d just settled for ignoring his paranoia out of exhaustion a pair of minutes ago. She was still an enemy to him, she was right on mark about that. But to put their rivalry away to give her a safe space for… thoughts in company? Maybe?

　He was evidently hesitant, needless to be said when his expression turned from surprise to discomfort and back to his current annoyance. He’d turned his gaze away, looking at the fake scenery outside the windows for a pair of seconds before another heavy sigh left his lips, one hand running through his seafoam mane while his head now hung in defeat.

　It took him a full minute of silence or so, but he’d ultimately lifted his body just slightly to slide over to the other extreme of the cushioned sofa, and grant the girl a spot on it―next to him, he thought begrudgingly.

　　❝ As long as you don’t do anything suspicious, I guess I can comply. Stay on your own side, though.❞

          That  was  right.  While  it  wasn’t  the  best  company,  by  all  means,  but  she’d  take  what  she  could  get  at  this  point.  She  too  felt  rather  uncomfortable  just  asking  the  question,  but  felt  it  was  necessary  --  if only  to  keep  her  somewhat  sane.  A  selfish  decision  on  her  part,  and  if  he’d  refused,  she  would  have  simply  gone  back  to  her  room,  or  at  the  very  least  taken  a  walk  to  keep  her  mind  occupied.

❛   You  don’t  need  to  tell  me  twice.   ❜   Upon  hearing  his  approval,  she  looked  over  to  him,  a  smile  --  genuine  --  tugged  at  the  corners  of  her  lips.  Sara  felt  relieved,  in  a sense,  knowing  that  she  wouldn’t  have  to  spend  her  night  alone  with  the  shadows  at  the  end  of  her  bed.   Unless  of  course,  the  being  manifested  itself  already.  There,  in  the  corner  of  her  vision,  she  saw  the  shadow  -  the  being  that  had  been  haunting  her  for  god  knows  how  long  now.  She  began  to  panic,  her  breath  catching  in  her  chest  as  she  sat  herself  down  quickly  on  the  opposite  end  of  the  couch.  Her  hands fumbled  in  her  lap,  and  her  eyes  darted  from  Shin  to  the  floor,  where  it  was  safe  to  look. The  smile  she  had  just  worn  had  long-since  faded,  why  had  he  appeared  now  of  all  times...  Just  when  she’d  gotten  rid  of  him  too.

It was  going  to  be  okay.  ‘  It  isn’t  real. It  isn’t  real.  It  isn’t  real. ‘  She  had  to  ignore  it.  It’d  go  away  soon  enough.  A  deep  breath,  and  she  attempted  to  regain  her  composure.  She  had  to  say  something --  anything  -- to  keep  her  from  acknowledging  its  existence  right  now.   ❛   Ah...  How  is  Kanna  doing?  ❜  Her  voice  shook  momentarily,  taking  a  brief  moment  to  clear  her  throat  before  speaking  up  again.   ❛  ...I  hope  you’re  taking  good  care  of  her.  ❜

“After finding secret passages, hidden rooms, and that laptop, I’m sure there’s more to it.” It would be pretty cruel if they had it made on purpose, only to get their hopes up. Keiji decides to learn more towards actual hope, as he speculates they may have had more than Kai on their side behind enemy lines.

“We’ll find a way out, and finally take down the people who put us in this mess once and for all.”

Leaving the topic on a hopeful note, the fact the other couldn’t recall when they last eat was concerning. Indeed, when had been their last meal? With no clocks to really tell if it was day or night, time was relative.

“That doesn’t sound good, Sara. Can’t say I’m any different. Wonder what they got around…”

          “  Yeah...  Though  I  wouldn’t  be  surprised  if  they  were  only  doing  this  for  some  sick  kick.  “  She  gave  a  half-hearted  chuckle,  like  she  wanted  to  believe  that  it  wasn’t  true.  and  laugh  at  how  ridiculous  she  sounded.  If  they’d  come  this  far  though,  there  was  no  doubt  that  they’d  find  something  else  along  the  way  too.  And  that  was  more  than  enough  to  help  Sara  continue  on.  That  small  spark  of  hope  was  all  she  needed. They’d  been  searching  for  so  long  that  she’d  completely  lost  track  of  time  ---  not  like  she  could  keep  track  of  it  in  a  place  like  this  anyway.  How  many  hours  had  passed  since  her  last  meal  exactly..?  It  must  have  been  at  least  half  a  day  since  she’d  eaten  last,  which  must  have  meant  the  same  for  Keiji.  She  hummed,  immediately  putting  on  a  much  more  chipper  expression,  beginning  her  new  search  for  some  decent  food.  “  If  we  can  find  some  ingredients  I  might  be  able  to  whip  something  up.  I’m...  not  a  good  cook  by  any  means,  but  I  can  probably  prepare  a  small  something.  “

“As much as I would like to have something new to bring to the table, I’m afraid I don’t have much than what we’ve found before.” 

Even with the heightened deductive sense, There was nothing out of the ordinary. Nothing new from their previous investigation before. On top of trying to make sure any of the others would fall victim to any traps they could have noticed before.

“Guess we’ve been going at it for a while,” he could feel his eyes wanting to droop ever so slightly. 

“Maybe it’s time to just get a bit of rest. It won’t do us any good if we’re looking at things all exhausted. Maybe we can find something to eat too.”

          A  small  sigh,  crossing  her  arms  over  her  chest  loosely  as  she  listened.  Somewhat  disappointed  that  they  didn’t  find  anything,  she  was  sure  that  they  would  if  they  kept  looking.  However,  it  seemed  like  searching  when  they’d  exhausted  all  of  their  resources  was  all  but  useless.  Better  to  rest,  regroup,  and  try  again  when  they  get  another  lead.   “  Yeah,  I  suppose  so.  I  can’t  believe  we  haven’t  found  anything  useful  yet.  Surely  we  can’t  be  expected  to  just  sit  and  wait  for  the  next  main  game...  right?  “   Keiji  was  right,  though  --  and  she  trusted  him,  so  gave  him  a  nod  of  her  head,  unfolding  her  arms  and  resting  them  at  her  sides. 

“  Food  sounds  good.  I’ve  been  searching  for  so  long  that  I’ve  forgotten  when  I’d  last  eaten... “

       he STUDIES her as she sits down, arms crossed before him, leaning further into the chair as he tries to figure out just what she could be getting at. & if he had to be completely honest, he’d been more than ready to DISMISS whatever she was going to say or ask… before the topic instantly catches his interest, seen in the way he sits up just a little straighter & features are slightly more animated than before. 

        – ❝ ah, so THAT’S what this is about. ❞ smug smile forms as he speaks, hand reaching up to twirl a strand of said hair,  ❝ you’ve done good to come to me, then ! i’m afraid to say that the dye i use is a trade secret– but as for your style ? ❞ again, he makes to observe her, leaning forward if only to study her a bit more, ❝ … though you might not be able to pull off the same style as ours, i can say that adding some COLOUR to yours would do you wonders. ❞

          She’s  seemingly  glad  that  the  question  had  been  worth  his  time.  The  fact  that  Alice  had  given  an  interest  in  what  she  had  to  ask  was  a  relief!  Her  expression  shifted,  smile  turning  into  a  small  grin  as  he  leaned  forwards.  While  Sara  knew  that  he’d  have  to  inspect  her  hair  in  order  to  form  an  answer,  she  couldn’t  help  but  feel  slightly  self-conscious  having  his  eyes  on  her.  “  I  couldn’t  even  imagine  how  I’d  look  with  your  kinda  style. Don’t  think  I’d  need  to  mention  that  my  school  would  probably  send  me  home  the  instant  I  turn  up  with  hair  like  that.   “  She  suppressed  the  urge  to  push  back  her  hair  behind  her  ears.  Perhaps  she  should  have  worn  her  hair  down  for  a  better  judgement?  “  I  quite  like  the  colour  purple...  What  do  you  think?  A  little  colour  on  the  ends  of  my  hair?  Dying  all  of  it  seems  a  little  too  daunting..!  “

“You trying to completely empty my wallet now Sara?” He asked between moments of laughter. “Hope you don’t mind if I take this then.” He proceeded to take her snack along with his before she could grab and hers and proceeded to hold hers above himself in a jokingly keep away stance.

          “  Wh---  Hey!  Joe,  come  on!!  Not  fair.  “  She  went  to  grab  for  her  snack  as  she  saw  Joe  reach  for  it,  but  was  slightly  too  slow,  and  before  she  knew  it,  she  was  reaching  up  to  try  and  grab  it  from  him,  even  jumping  a  few  inches  to  grab  for  it.   Curse  him  for  being  taller  than  her  --  even  if  only  by  a  few  inches.  She  couldn’t  help  but  laugh  though,  giving  up  in  her  attempts  to  reach  for  her  food.   “  Take  my  snacks  too  and  I’ll  DEFINITELY  make  you  pay  TRIPLE  the  price  of  these!  “

Keiji took a moment to ponder her question. It was an interesting question to ask out of the blue.

“Only the basics. How about you Sara?”

          “  ...My  mother  taught  me  how  to  bake  sometimes.  And  I’d  help  her  out  with  dinner  when  I  was  younger,  so  I  know  how  to  make  certain  dishes.  “  She  leaned  back  in  her  chair,  looking  out  of  the  blatantly  fake  window  in  front  of  them.    “  I’m  not  very  good  since  I  don’t  really  practice  a  lot,  though.  I  never  really  had  the  time  to  work  on  it  either.  “

　…What the—? Well, she was surely being pretty sassy at the beginning, but now her words were plain… scary. Did she just admit she’d been at his throat all this time? Surely not something new for him, but to hear her vocalize the feeling just made his anxieties rise up. He blinked, quickly turning his face away to hide the shaken expression of his features from her for a good minute, until he could recover his composed facade.

　　❝ H-Huh…❞  He was out of words still though, mentally scrambling to grip onto something to say, if to not give her the upper hand against him. After all, his stuttering and hesitation was only a show of weakness. He’d already put down that attitude a little while ago.

　　❝ …Friend? That’s hardly a thing I would picture you calling me, Miss Sara.❞ He was neither smiling nor looking at her, eyes trained to the side elsewhere―surely avoiding her own gaze, even though he was confident in his own skills to act out a calm and collected facade.

　　❝ Frankly, I’d say it’s not the best time to go jesting around, Miss Sara. Kanna asked me to check on you, so I did.❞ 

          She  had  to  be,  after  all  --  at  his  throat,  that  is.  Because  he’d  been  the  one  trying  to  turn  the  tables  on  her  the  entire  time  they’d  been  here.  It  was  all  for  her  own  safety,  really.  Her  guard  had  been  up  since  that  initial  stunt  Sou  had  pulled  in  the  first  main  game.  She,  of  course,  hadn’t  meant  it  all  that  seriously,  though  perhaps  it could  have  been  thought  that  way.  “  We’ve  always  been  friends,  though.  Right,  Sou?  “  Her  head  tilted  to  the  side  as  she  smiled,  hands  moving  to  rest  behind  her back,  clasped  together  comfortably.  Part  of  her  had  only  said  it  to  gauge  his  reaction  --  see  what  he’d  say if  she  thought  of  him  as  a  friend  --  better  yet,  an  ally.  “  Having  enemies  in  here  will  only  make  things  far  worse  for  all  of  us,  after  all.  Wouldn’t  you  agree?  “

A  short  sigh  escaped  her  lips,  releasing  her  hands  and  swinging  one  around  to  brush  her  bangs  from  her  face. “  Kanna..? Ah  -- what  sort  of  things  have  you  been  filling  her  mind  with  now,  I  wonder...  Well,  you  can  tell  her  that  I’m  just  fine.  I’m  staying  out  of  trouble  too,  if  that  reassures  her.  “

Fingers ghost over his own shoulder, as if he had felt something there. 

“So, what were you saying?”

           ❛  Ah--  No  worries!  I’ve  been  doing  that  a  lot  too,  to  be  honest...   ❜   A  hand  ran  up  to  her  hair,  pushing  her  bangs  behind  her  ear  as  she  spoke,  a  gentle  sigh  leaving  her  lips.  She  could  only  assume  that  he  had  a  lot  to  think  about  too  --  what  with  the  whole  situation  they  were  in  and  all.  ❛  I  was  asking  whether  you  found  anything  interesting  lately  --  I’ve  been  coming  up  empty-handed,  and  was  looking  for  at  least  something  to  work  with.  ❜
