“Why does the third of the three brothers, who shares his food with the old woman in the wood, go on to become king of the country? Why does James Bond manage to disarm the nuclear bomb a few seconds before it goes off rather than, as it were, a few seconds afterwards? Because a universe where that did not happen would be a dark and hostile place. Let there be goblin hordes, let there be terrible environmental threats, let there be giant mutated slugs if you really must, but let there also be hope. It may be a grim, thin hope, an Arthurian sword at sunset, but let us know that we do not live in vain.”
— Terry Pratchett, “Let There Be Dragons” (A Slip of the Keyboard)

King Bran
Guys, if the leak is true, that means GRRM has been telling us how this will end for a while. Look at this from Rolling Stones, published on April 23, 2014.

I just wanna go on the record right now and say if Dany is supposed to go mad in the books as well, those are cancelled too as far as I’m concerned. GRRM is a MUCH better writer than D&D. A great writer. But he isn’t god. He’s just another old white dude. And if he takes Dany and drives her mad so he can give all of her hard work and accomplishments over to a man–even if it’s different circumstances from the show–he’s dead to me, too. I’ve had enough of the mad woman shtick. I’ve had enough of it. It isn’t original or interesting. I don’t care what path he takes to get there. It’s not a destination we should be going to in 2019 or later and calling it subversive or good writing. And up through ADWD Dany is, to me, one of the less grey characters. Not someone I could see conceivably doing what Dany did in 8.05. If that happens, even if it takes her years and a slower and more carefully constructed descent into madness, I’m out. Women don’t have to be mad or villainous to be interesting. Their trauma doesn’t have to strip them of their humanity or turn them into hardened badasses. Dany staying true to herself to the end would be a lot braver storytelling and a lot more interesting to read.

Because of GOT 8x05
“We think of men as antiheroes, as capable of occupying an intense and fascinating moral grey area; of being able to fall, and rise, and fall again, but still be worthy of love on some fundamental level, because if it was the world and its failings that broke them, then we surely must owe them some sympathy. But women aren’t allowed to be broken by the world; or if we are, it’s the breaking that makes us villains. Wronged women turn into avenging furies, inhuman and monstrous: once we cross to the dark side, we become adversaries to be defeated, not lost souls in need of mending. Which is what happens, when you let benevolent sexism invest you in the idea that women are humanity’s moral guardians and men its native renegades: because if female goodness is only ever an inherent quality – something we’re born both with and to be – then once lost, it must necessarily be lost forever, a severed limb we can’t regrow. Whereas male goodness, by virtue of being an acquired quality – something bestowed through the kindness of women, earned through right action or learned through struggle – can just as necessarily be gained and lost multiple times without being tarnished, like a jewel we might pawn in hardship, and later reclaim.”

Cancel HBO
I just canceled my HBO subscription. Good thing Netflix, Hulu, DCUniverse, and soon-to-be Disney+ exist.

ASIOAF’s Future
Everyone seems to be in agreement, including GRRM and d&d, that the books will end similarly to the show. They said the endings for minor characters will probably be different, but the core characters will end in a similar place on the show and in the books as well. If that’s true, I might not even read the next books when they come out. I hate to see Dany go completely mad... I refuse to read her marvelous story end like that. I guess I’m going to have to learn to love Wheel of Time like I used to love ASOIAF.

The North is the racist part of Westeros
Now that we’ve seen just how racist the North is towards the Dothraki and people Mereenese Dany brought with her, it made me realize that they were always racist. The North has been this racist against Wildings too.
I mean, they killed Jon over it.
I mean, that’s some hardcore racism right there. King’s Landing might be pompous and racist against Dorne, but the North might be worse.
I mean, would Sansa have reacted more warmly to Dany if she weren't coming with foreigners? Maybe.
Gendry fits in just fine, btw. So it’s clearly not a distrust of all outsiders.

Hope after 8x04
Guys, I know it looks bad right now, but think about it. If they really were going for a bad ending, wouldn’t they want it to be *shocking*? I just thought back to the Sansa and Arya scare last season. Do you guys remember how they tricked us into worrying that Arya will kill Sansa? I really hope that’s what is happening with all this “Mad Queen” foreshadowing.

Varys in 8x04
“A cock is important.” I hate Varys so much. I’ve got like 20 minutes of the episode left and I wish Qyburn would get his hands on him. And Jon isn’t that temperate, Varys, you fucking bitch. I never would have called him that before, but since he says cocks are important, I’m going to call him a stupid cock-less bitch.

thoughts midway through 8x04
I’m not loving how everyone is questioning Dany’s state of mind. With the whole R + L = J reveal, she has every right to worry. Yet, she isn’t even that angry with Jon. She simply suggested he shouldn’t tell anyone else. That’s perfectly reasonable.

Jaime & Bran After 8x03
So before the battle, it sounded like Bran might have meant Jaime will die fighting. “How do you know there’s an after?” That is what Bran said. Plus, it was Tyrion who asked Bran to tell him his story, further connecting Bran and the Lannisters. Jaime of course didn’t die in the battle. So was Bran wrong? I don’t think so. I think he meant Jaime would die, but not in that battle. Not in Winterfell. I think Bran knows Jaime will kill Cersei and then probably himself or something to that effect. Perhaps the Mountain will kill him for killing Cersei. Or it’s even possible that Jaime will die in the battle against Cersei. Regardless, I think Bran saw Jaime’s death, and saw that he will kill Cersei first. THAT’s why he doesn’t want the others to find out about Jaime pushing him out of that window. He doesn’t want them to execute Jaime before he can kill Cersei.

Dany and the Tarlys
I am so sick of antis saying that Dany shouldn’t have killed Sam’s father and brother. They had a choice. Besides, the father was a complete dirtbag and the brother stood by him. They made their choice. Ned executed people too. So did Jon. Arya killed people. Sansa had Littlefinger killed and we all loved that, and Sam’s father wasn’t better than Littlefinger. Yet it’s only Dany who is evil for doing what all rulers do.
