Starting a new infinity Nikki thread to celebrate update 1.5! There's so much to do so much to see so what's wrong with taking the backstreets?

one thing I really love about chapter 3 and 4 aesthetically is that there are so many sprites and animations that are used once and never again

I totally get why in ch 1&2 they tried to reuse as much as they could

after all, it takes a lot of work for every sprite and animation, no matter how minor

but the large variety of sprites and animations really made all of the characters feel so much more alive in this chapter

after seeing the weird route for this chapter im even MORE convinced this is true

the whole scene with noelle and kris in the bedroom reads to me (and I think most) as a metaphor for abuse and a common thing that happens to children who are groomed is they will then perpetuate that abuse on fellow children

I think thats also why toby originally used the flower imagery before it was changed, flowers are often used to represent innocence especially for young girls

and theres a heavy implication that we (the player) have implanted a piece of ourselves in noelle when you can look at noelle later and actually control the rose/red dot in her and I think thats showing that the violence/abuse that we have inflicted onto kris (and thats been happening to them before the story began) is now being done onto noelle too much more directly

I think thats also why noelle is the subject of the weird route to begin with because carol is grooming kris and so it has already been implied that she is abusing/neglecting noelle in some way and weird route is basically kris being forced thru the influence of the player to continue that abuse and ramp it up

and the end of the route straight up confirms that carol has kris' number and calls them, even if shes not the one whos been texting us, thats still very strange to be calling a child alone and weirdly implying that she knows what we (the player) did to noelle and approves of it

Chapter 4 spoilers

I strongly believe after finishing chapter 4 that Kris' story is meant to be an allegory for child grooming

I don't think carol is actually SAing kris or doing grooming in that sense but the parallels there are way too strong for it to just be like ah kris is being fooled by the bad guy

I think that's also why we as the player are the ones who's controlling Kris because kris has /been/ controlled by authority figures that they can't do anything about and we're meant to feel that and see first hand how harmful what we're doing is to truly understand the horror of what's happening to kris before this adventure even began

Kris comes from a really bad and struggling home life all the characters from their past talk about how Kris was isolated from their peers and had terrible self worth, it makes them the perfect victim for adults to take advantage of

I think that's also why Toby chose to have asgore working at the mayors house too, it's just another level of control that carol has over the dreemurs and thus over kris

I also think the one texting/calling Kris is carol cause right after kris texts them and they say they're coming there then carol appears and carol even references you with red text (which could represent the red of us the soul)

And if that's true that means she has constant access to a kid who she's bossing around and threatening which of course is common in child grooming especially with teens like kris cause they have enough "freedom" that they have independent objects like phones and no one is monitoring who they're talking to

It's a heavy topic so that's why I think it's only allegorical and metaphorical but I do think this is the intentional message Toby is crafting

the entire mike fight HAS to be teasing/making fun of the fan Mike theories they all represented the diff ways people thought mike (who ended up to be actually tenna) would be

you had the spamton cat related interpretation, the short suave guy, the more lanky tumblr sexyman version

and then after when the short one (I forgot his name) is freaking out and being like who the hell is mike with the string board?? gotta be a nod to the fans

and then you actually find mike and its a literal microphone jpeg

Chapter 3 thoughts and some reactions (no screen shots)

I LOVE TENNAS INTRODUCTION OMG IN SO GLAD THE LEAKS WERE REAL. My ant boyyyyy

What a perfect design tho truly

I remember everyone's been like how can you possibly top spamton and holy shit bro it's been achieved, Literally breaking the 2nd dimension and rules within the text boxes and shit it's amazing

I felt the obsession with the guy forming the moment he started talking what a character Toby truly never quits with peak

I absolutely loved the first round I was so blown away by every single new sequence the frikin old game the dinner dash section like holy shit

Also the weather couple omg ☠️☠️☠️ what a storyline fucking rouxels self inserting he's so god damn hilarious

The second round was fun too tho I personally prefer the first one. I did really love the rhythm mini game tho

One subtle thing about both I really adore is that susie is her own person you can't control her she literally pushes Kris aside beats up who she wants play the games how she wants. She's such a perfect foil to Kris

Also the realization that spamtons whole fucking persona was stolen from Tena makes so much of his specific quirks make so much more sense like that's why he does the weird talking it's copying Tena's deal that's so clever. And especially in the secret where you find out that Tena was making a deal and mentoring spamton until spamton got the mysterious call what a reveal

I love Toby's choice in portraying Tenna too!! Like it would be very easy to frame the literal tv as being money hungry and only wants to exploit and keep you watching but no it's about community. The tv misses Kris misses Dess misses the movies and shows but more important misses the company. And I feel like that's a very TV centric thing in general. You know you have the family huddling around the tv it's an inherently social thing unlike a computer which is very isolated. Tenna just wants more time with us not for greed but because they're lonely they're hardly ever used even by toriel. It's like how video killed the radio star the internet really killed tv and this felt like a subtle commentary on what was lost in that

The secret s rank beta worlds were so extremely unsettling I genuinely didn't want to play them especially since they're clearly references to the violence and weird routes of undertale and ch 2 of deltarune. But I did go on because i really want to see all the secrets and you know game called me out for that

Absolutely despised the shadow mantle secret boss this chapter. Very unfun and unfair. Idk why they decided to have the movement be half grid but all the objects are full grid. It makes it super easy to get stuck on corners and the sword control itself is very unwieldy. Wayyyyy harder than any of the other secret boss fights have been and not cause of skill but because the mechanics itself are frustrating. Plus you can't even use your typical resources like acts, defense, and items, so there's nothing to but brute force it.

Roaring knight secret fight is also hard af not unfair tho I think that's totally on me I might just be too worked up from previous fight and need some time to eventually come back to it

Overall amazing chapter as always really looking forward to the next one and I will def be playing that!

okay actually roaring knight is too hard my reaction time is absolute garbage rn idk if im just wasted from the previous boss or what

so far have had 44 unsuccesful attempts which is crazyyyy for me I never go this high even with a secret boss but im gonna keep the save there to fight them and hopefully eventually come back and beat them

If there was only ch 3 id dedicate the time to doing that only but theres a whole ass nother chapter I wanna see so im doing that

but after like 10 hours im techincally done with ch 3! (for now)

and then I find out theres an even more secret secret boss to fight and I have been doing attempts on that but its sooooo much better than fighting this damn thing
