The dazzlingly bright, rounded, orange flowers of Kniphofia rooperi (red-hot poker) appear late in the season and it may not start flowering until well into October. This hardy evergreen perennial has long green strappy foliage and thrives in a sheltered sunny spot with good moist well drained soil.
