Reflective Document
Book 5
Rational: For my reflective document I wanted to continue the type system I used in my 4D & Experimental project. As well I used photographs, colours and patterns from the four project to maintain a consistent look. To connect this piece to the word diapason I encased each page between to sheets of bubble wrap; so that reader could read and pop creating little bursts of sound while they go through the book.

3D Project | Melodic Rings
Project Rational: A series of melodic chimes that use metal, copper and wood. In this piece I explored how material interact with one another to create a variety of pleasing harmonies.Specifically referencing consonant & disonant harmonies which occur in music. The burst of sound is created in the piece when the viewer interacts with the chimes.
Disonant Harmony: Dissonant chords lack harmony. The word dissonant comes from the Old French dis- meaning “apart” and sonare meaning “to sound.” When a noise is dissonant, it sounds like it’s broken apart, or not meshing together well. Dissonant doesn’t have to describe just music or sounds.
Consanant Harmony: Consonant intervals are usually described as pleasant and agreeable.
Materials: metal rings, cotton string, leather string, wood beads, copper pipe, metal tubes

4D Project: Sounds Like
Project Rational: In this piece I wanted to explore the way we percieve sound. Using the headphones the listener meant to listen to one or more of the “bursts” of sounds. Then describe what they’ve heard on one of the pieces of paper and adhere it the wall around. As more people interact with the piece the larger the “spectrum” of perceptions becomes.*
materials: wood board, headphones, ipod, sounds clips, acrylic, paper

Experimental Project: BANG BOOM SNAP
Project Rational: Bang Boom Snap is a variety of four mystery cracker snaps that are indivually packaged. Each contain the spectrum of something. I wanted to focus on two aspects of the word diapason; burst of sound and the spectrum of something. In this edition of Bang Boom Snap Mystery Cracker Snaps: each cracker snap includes a mini zine and colour gradient poster, the series of posters create the entire colour spectrum.
Materials: paper, snap sound makers, felt smiley confetti, plastic bags

Final Writing Response
You have now had a chance to present your finalized body of work (2D, 3D, 4D, Experimental, Reflective) to the class for feedback and discussion.
As we conclude the semester, please write a summary of your experience as a final blog post, including responses to the following:
What have you learned about yourself doing this self-directed assignment?
What did you find to be the most difficult aspect of your chosen assignment? Creativity? Research? Connecting design to research? Craft? Organizational skills? Time management? Something else entirely?
What did you enjoy about this opportunity?
How would you rate your performance over the course of the semester?
Hindsight is 20/20. What would you do differently, now that you've had this opportunity to work this way?
The thing I found the most difficult initially was connecting my research to the design without going too far from the actual definition of my word. I really enjoyed the opportunity to really delve into a topic and explore it over a semester, instead of the quick pace of a 2-3 week turn over of most of the projects I’ve done in other classes. I think the length of the project really allowed for trial and error which was very necessary for me in this project. I think I did pretty well throughout the semester, however I wish I had made a some sort of schedule or plan at the beginning of the semester so that I could have managed my time better throughout.
