Scenes from Koyaanisqatsi (1982)
One of my favourite films. Here are some scenes which I thought related to our hybrid project.

I spent one night preparing for the letterpress workshop by drafting a few poetic phrases to set in type the next day. One of the things I wrote was a short, personal manifesto. Much to my dismay, I woke up too late for the workshop but eventually decided I would still generate some prints from the words I had drafted that night. Thus, I did so @ A4 on lino. Here are some of my plans for the task which, from planning to print, took around 10 hours. A lot longer than I had anticipated.

Outcome of the wood workshop induction. I found the process to be quite therapeutic and am very pleased that I now have use of the workshop. I’m going to need it if I want to produce the stacking game for our movement exhibition

Notes from 4 Creative Enterprise Week events at Chelsea, and a Creative Attributes Framework handout we were given in the Speed Network session. I found this to be a powerful tool with which I could visualise my strengths, weaknesses and potential for growth.

Reflective eating
Today we shared lunch in the studio. I brought in some wonton soup that I purchased from a takeaway last night. Wonton soup is a type of higher being in physical form, and (hopefully) strikes a perfect balance between the salty chicken broth and the tender, traditionally pork or prawn wontons. By providing my classmates with wonton soup, I will surely win their hearts, I thought. Did I? Maybe, but I definitely learnt some new names. I like eating food with people. Not food with people in it, but alongside people. I find it to be a rather humbling experience where a group can put their differences aside, and focus on the shared necessity of nutrition. There was a wide range of food from different cuisines, a lot of which didn’t cater for the group’s vegetarian minority, which was a shame. Trying not to allow my mind to rest for too long on my contribution to the mass enslavement of animals, I was able to regain some happiness from Elvis’ pork dish, which to my disbelief was made by Elvis himself. It was like eating the most tender car tire which had been marinating in honey for 24 months. Remarkable. Eating together allowed us to establish common ground, and open up enriching conversations about our backgrounds. I do however secretly wish there was more of a conversation surrounding the morality of eating meat. I did think of initiating the conversation topic, but I was busy chewing flesh and eventually forgot. Maddie’s lemon drizzle cake (which was so good that I kept typing it as Lemon Drizzle Cake), lived up to my very low standards when it comes to lemon cakes - a delicacy I am more than impartial to. I’d love to say her culinary creation was perfect but it was a bit too rich. Maybe I shouldn’t have had so much.

Our Hybrid
Combining my golden hour, and Tomo’s mess, we set about manifesting some quick hybrid ideas combining the two elements. We went to the dimly lit letterpress room equipped with our allocated sheet of newsprint paper, and a sheet of gold card that Tomo bought. Trying to emulate sunset, we moved a source of orange light around, whilst experimenting with the mess itself
