Be Brilliant - Podcast 5: Respect The Journey, with Lynn Le of Society Nine
After taking up kickboxing classes and shopping around for boxing gloves, we discovered Society Nine - a premium women's boxing gear and sportswear startup founded by Lynn Le. Pleasantly surprised and inspired by the company's ethos (not to mention their awesome gloves), we asked Lynn to join us and discuss her startup journey, what she's learned along the way, the strength of women leaders in sport and life, and the importance of simply respecting the journey. Visit their website - www.societynine.com - follow them on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram; and subscribe to the Society Nine podcast on iTunes.

18: Art & Technology - The RSC & Intel Unite, with Sarah Ellis
Sarah Ellis, Director of Digital Development for the Royal Shakespeare Company, graciously gave us some of her time to talk about the mind-blowing work done in collaboration with Intel and Imaginarium Studios on their production of Shakespeare's "The Tempest". We discussed how technology can be used to help enhance the message in storytelling, the importance of collaboration in multidisciplinary teams, and why she thinks art informs technology and technology informs art.
You can follow Sarah on Twitter @scarahnellis and learn more about the RSC at RSC.org.uk

Creating Purpose-Driven Content, with Melanie Fawcett
Anyone can produce content, but how do we produce content that matters? Focus on purpose! Melanie Fawcett, a creative director and storyteller, spent some time with us to discuss the era of "mobile thought leadership", how to connect with users who are at the point of choice, and shifting our perspective from "creating" per se to "documenting". One major takeaway we had: Vanity stats = numbers while engagement = people. Preach! You can connect with Melanie on Facebook under her name, Melanie Fawcett.

Not Your Same GE - A Conversation With My Dad
I’m a third-generation GE employee. My grandpa worked for GE Aviation for 28 years. He was a technical leader in compressor technology. In fact, a plaque in his honor now hangs on the wall at the GE Aviation Learning Center in Cincinnati. My dad worked for GE for 42 years and retired as the Chief Engineer for the Nuclear business. Growing up I remember going to work with him on the weekends spending hours coloring the squares on the engineering draft paper and drawing on his whiteboard.
One might assume that with this legacy I would have followed a technical career path to GE; however, my journey has been quite different. After college, I fell into recruiting – it was a happy accident and I have never looked back!
Recruiting is what eventually brought me to GE.In my role, I regularly talk with candidates about GE’s culture highlighting Fastworks, our GE Beliefs, and Performance Development. A couple weeks ago my dad was in town visiting and overheard some of the information I shared with a candidate. It sparked a conversation that made me realize that I now work for a very different company than the one that he retired from just 5 years ago.
As a working mom, it’s clear to me that I would have struggled at the “old GE”, but at the “new GE” I have the tools to thrive! I am fortunate to work remotely which gives me the flexibility to be successful at work and still be present for my kids. Having permissive time off helps me keep a sense of balance. From a career development perspective, I’m connected with my manager and get regular feedback from my colleagues and clients on what I’m doing well or where there are opportunities to improve.
My grandpa and dad probably wouldn’t recognize the GE I know today, but it is these changes have allowed me and so many of my colleagues to excel in our careers!

Yes, the Candidate Experience is a Cultural Experience
Great insights from our very own Miranda Souders,  Senior Director, Talent Acquisition at GE Power, Renewable Energy - read the full post here
The best companies are intentional about aligning their interview models with their culture, beliefs, values and how they work.
An article I read recently got me thinking about culture. Working in Global Talent Acquisition at GE, I am constantly thinking about what we can do to attract talent that can thrive here, and the interview process is a monumental part of that equation. The best companies are intentional about aligning their interview models with their culture, beliefs, values and how they work.  For companies fine tuning the interview processes, here are some indicators to think about that can tell a story about your culture:The interviewers
Who makes hiring decisions?
How many people need to be involved?
How aligned are your interviewers on the job description?
The focus and structure of the interview
Give you a forum to showcase your company’s purpose?
Feel formal or informal?
Have several stages?
Feel like a conversation or an interrogation?
Authenticity always wins when competing for top talent.
The interview experience
Where does the interview actually take place and what do candidates see?
How digitized is your process?
What’s the engagement and communications like throughout the process?
Be sure to check out this thought leadership article at the full post here
