HEAR ME OUT ON THIS ONE!!! Gerard’s ventriloquist dummy represents mcr’s core music and message. Like, the dictatorship (music industry) is trying to commercialize the band, spread propaganda etc… meanwhile gerard cradles and nurtures this thing that they have created, literally their child. He dies holding onto the last remains of belief in the art that he set out to create. It’s a ventriloquist dummy because, like the music, it’s a vessel for the message of the person that controls its movements. During sleep, the dummy is nurtured and held. This is because sleep is one of the highest musical points of the album, truly a monument of creativity and artistic accomplishment. Then, during teenagers, the dummy is forsaken in the place of ads and commercialization. No more honest art or statement. The album ends with gerard desperately grasping onto the remains of that artistic goal as the music industry slowly drains the life and art from him.
