Recently I’ve been playing Leon Thomas “Spirits Known and Unknown” on repeat. The album blends several strains of jazz into something I find myself haunted and moved by. The combination of Thomas’ yodeling & Pharaoh Sanders undeniable saxophone feel like the conjuring of something otherworldly. Piano parts by Lonnie Liston Smith, drums by the legend Roy Haynes plus additional vocals by Horace Silver make this a timeless listen.
Inspired by the soul jazz tradition, I compiled a collection of songs that have been stirring my spirit. Give it a listen if you feel so compelled

“Charles Lloyd Drops Out," Open City (1967)
I can’t look at myself as a droput. Some people say I’m a hippie. I’m not a hippie. I’ve never been a part of the society, so how can I drop out of it?
