Though Hamilton plays fast and loose with history in a number of respects, its largest departure from the historical record is probably the implication that Aaron Burr actually learned anything from the whole mess.

In the play, Burr is regretful of having killed Hamilton, and seems to intend to mend his ways.

In reality, Burr was unapologetic for Hamilton’s death, and went on to become embroiled in a series of increasingly bizarre schemes, including an alleged plot to have himself crowned King of Mexico. He was eventually forced to flee America in disgrace, and returned from Europe only after being thrown out of England and told never to return for reasons that remain obscure to this day.

He was basically the platonic ideal of not knowing to quit when you’re behind.
