i thought my laptop was on its last leg because it was running at six billion degrees and using 100% disk space at all times and then i turned off shadows and some other windows effects and it was immediately cured. i just did the same to my roommate's computer and its performance issues were also immediately cured. okay. i guess.

so i guess if you have creaky freezy windows 10/11 try searching "advanced system settings", go to performance settings, and uncheck "show shadows under windows" and anything else you don't want. hope that helps someone else.

My teenager has more hours of homework per night than I got in my entire university career, and it doesn’t teach them a goddamn thing besides how to hate themself for not being able to do it all.

If my wife isn’t expected to labor outside her designated work hours at her literal job, why is my teenager expected to labor outside theirs?

saw your reply on the tiktok post, idk if anyone else said anything but id recommend only using insta from the browser! you can still look at posts and access the dm function, but i have not seen an insta reel in my life. ofc you won't get a notification if someone messages you, so keeping the app around just for that might work.

Just saw this and tysm :D I think I'm gonna try this. Not sure if I can completely cut out the app from my life bc of the notifications issue but any little bit helps!!!

( For those who don't know what this is about, i commented on a post urging people to delete TikTok & quit Instagram reels, but for me & a lot of other people, we wanna quit, but ig is our primary messaging platform & doesn't let you disable reels )

task prioritizer tool

I posted this in a reblog earlier, but I’m queueing it up as a new post too so it’s easier to find in tags. 

@howtomusicmajor​ wrote a fantastic post awhile ago about how to prioritize a bunch of things that are all due soon/overdue, and then @allydsgn​ made this lovely chart to go with it. I’ll link the post in a reblog so that the original shows up in tags, but basically this tool tells you what order to do your tasks based on when they’re due and how long you think they’ll take.

I took this chart and tweaked it to make another version that works for me as a task organizer for work projects. So it’s less geared toward “oh no I have ten things that all need to get done RIGHT NOW” and more toward “okay I have 25 things in my inbox and I just don’t know where to start” (aka ADHD brain)

The numbers aren’t in a super logical/elegant order because I tried it out for a couple days and moved the numbers around until they matched my actual priorities. (It’s not 100% perfect of course, but that’s fine because it’s just supposed to give me a recommendation so I can skip past the task paralysis! If I want to go out of order I can do that.)

Then I built myself a whole excel workbook with formulas to do all of the thinking and sorting for me, and then of course I went down a whole big rabbit hole of extra features and automatic sorting and it was at this point that I thought I should share it with more people so the ridiculous amount of time I spent on it would be a little more justified

If anyone would like to try this out, check the notes for a google drive link! The basics work okay in google sheets but some features only really work in excel.

There are 2 excel files in the gdrive folder, one based on the original 12-level priority chart and one for the 16-level chart that I’m using. Each one has three sheets: “Task List” is the screenshot above with all the bells and whistles, “Simple Task List” hides some of the unnecessary columns so that it’s less overwhelming, and “Priority” is where you can define your different priority levels. You can edit any of the numbers in that sheet to whatever works for you, all of the formulas should still work!

If you have any questions about how to edit this to work best for you, or you accidentally broke a formula or something, feel free to DM me :) I hope this is helpful for some people!! It’s been really helpful for me.

Re: That "complaining about poor product/service does not make you a Karen post":

1.) Searched for a while to find a few people bringing it up, but the term Karen was coined by Black people, from my understanding to talk specifically about white women's racism. The reason the word seems useless & too broadly applied is because nonblack people co opted it and attempted to defang it for our own use.

2.) OP is a transphobe, at the very least, and seems comfortable with TERFs. Search their top posts for only a brief minute and you'll find a post (CW: transphobia) claiming Blair White is a man.

3.) Someone in the notes said Karen was coined by employees to talk about rude customers. I just wanted to bring that up as why it's important to explicitly state how race and cultural appropriation play into this because I had to search a WHILE to find people challenging the whitewashing of this discussion.

4.) LMK if there's a reblog on that post that i missed that was comprehensive + from a Black person, or if I got something wrong/missed something.
