When a Character Is Angry but Doesn’t Know Why

Not all rage is loud. Sometimes it simmers. Sometimes it sneaks in. Especially for characters who aren’t used to feeling things or grew up in environments where anger wasn’t safe to express. So when it starts showing up, they don’t even recognize it as anger. They just feel… off. Wrong. Tense.

✧ They get irritated by things that never used to bother them. The way someone chews. A clock ticking. The sound of their name. They can’t explain it, they just feel raw, like their skin doesn’t fit.

✧ They isolate, but don’t call it that. Suddenly, they’re “too tired” to go out. “Too busy” to reply. But really, they don’t trust themselves to be around people without snapping.

✧ They pick fights over things that don’t matter. Because it’s easier to yell about the dishes than admit they feel powerless, unworthy, or invisible.

✧ They can’t sit still. Pacing. Fidgeting. Restlessness that feels like there’s a wasp trapped under their skin and they can’t get it out.

✧ They joke, but it stings. Sarcasm that cuts a little too deep. “Just teasing” that leaves bruises. Humor becomes a weapon they don’t even realize they’re using.

✧ They blame themselves for feeling bad. Instead of thinking something is wrong, they think I’m wrong for feeling this way. The anger turns inward. Self-criticism sharpens.

✧ They can’t cry, and it scares them. They want to break. To feel something clean. But all they feel is the pressure building, and it doesn’t go anywhere.

✧ They eventually explode, and hate themselves for it. One wrong word and suddenly it’s fire. And after? Shame. Guilt. Confusion. Like, What was that? What’s wrong with me?

✧ Their anger isn’t just anger. It’s grief in disguise. That’s the twist. Most of the time, the anger is covering up a heartbreak they haven’t admitted yet.

✧ They’re not “bad” for being angry. They’re human. Write that. Let them be messy and let them feel without always knowing why.

Red: oh, if his SO and him are at the point now where lap dances are happening, all of reds tsundre pride is gone~ he’s lazily grinning as he sits back in the chair patting his lap to get his SO started. They worked so hard for this, he’s totally ready for the show~ this will likely just turn into a real bed time though as red quickly gets impatient just watching ;)

Edge: he’s mesmerized. As SO moves his eyes never leave their face. Yes the way SO is dancing is alluring, but their face is what’s really doing it for edge. They just look so shy~ stars he can’t wait to kiss them breathless when they’re done ;).

Rust: he’s a little shyer than red about this. Rust knows his SO is inexperienced and has been doing his best to take things slow for them. Their nerves are setting off his nerves, so he can’t help but be as bashful as they are when they’re start dancing lol. Also like red though, his impatience wins in the end, and he’s pulling SO fully onto his lap to get some well needed kisses and friction.

Noir: he’s giving his SO just the most lovestruck look. Noir is rather shy about bed times too with a SO in the beginning. While he’s no scary cat when it comes to flirty words, courting his SO and all those romantic gestures, anything that involves undressing will make him balk a little. He worries he’s not attractive to them. So seeing all the effort SO put into this is making his soul sing~

Butch: he’s such a dirty dog lol. Butch is giving his SO the most disrespectful smirk as they dance on his lap~ His hands are wandering, he’s whispering nasty little things into SOs ear. Huh? When did they both end up on the bed? SO doesn’t know, but with butch’s attentions right now they probably can’t muster up the brainpower to even try anyways ;))))

Boss: this egotistical skeleton is sitting lazily on the chair like he owns the world right now. In his eyes he does. His whole world is in his lap moving in the most delicious way~ Boss’ eyes track SOs hips as they sway nervously. There’s a hand on their upper thigh tracing circles into it~ any time SO starts to chicken out, encouragements come out of boss’ mouth like smooth butter. “YOU WORKED SO HARD FOR THIS, FINISH WHAT YOU STARTED DEAR~”

So a week ago, I sprained my ankle and couldn't walk for 3 days. I'm used to hiking at least an hour a day with my huskies so not being able to walk at all was driving me crazy. And in my jittery sedimentary state, I kept getting visions of this blursed being: a biblically accurate axolotl. There was nothing I could do but draw it. I'm all better now and able to walk again, now back to making less cursed art (maybe)
