Well I've been visiting my family in Florida for the past week, which means I've done a good amount of work on Our Own Sunsets. Progress is slow, of course, but I also did some photography while there! Check it out!

It's very #problematic of me I'm sure but if they must do either I really desperately prefer authors coming up with fancy always-italicized elven words for being gay or trans than having preindustrial warrior aristocrats and barely-socialized monsters have a vocabulary that casually includes 'demisexual' and 'enby'.

This is only slightly a principled stance (queernorm fantasy worlds are very obviously not trying to have any sort of realistic political economy of gender, which I only slightly judge them for), mostly just painful aesthetic mismatch.

Status Report: 5/26/2025

Hello friends :D I bring to you a report on what I've been working on, just so you know I'm still alive. I'll be interspersing the topics with some photography I've done lately. Yes, I have other hobbies than writing. I have too many hobbies, frankly.

Bad news first, Our Own Sunsets has been pushed to the backburner again. This book has been a work in progress since ~2018, and while I do want to finish the first draft by this summer, I've returned to working on TWaC stuff. As I've said before, it's a dark comedy, but I'm at the end now and it's just dark, no more comedy. I have to be in the right headspace for it.

Good news! I've returned to working on TWaC stuff! I've got about 4k words of the outline of TWaC III done. I've also been working on another short story, revolving around a Bysench royal family vacation, centered on a teenage Rachel. It's been a lot of fun writing about her in a very different way than I'm used to.

I kinda recently got a job as a substitute teacher here in Long Beach, which is an absolute net positive for my writing output. Sitting unemployed at home was the worst motivation. Sitting bored with a bunch of screaming teenagers? Great motivation to give my attention to literally anything else! (so long as they aren't killing each other)

Let me know if I should start a page to post my photography or something... it's kinda random for me to throw my pictures up on here considering this is gennyrthewriter and not gennyrthephotographer.

Anyways, send me an ask if you'd like to know literally anything! I hope to have more for y'all soon.

Our Own Sunsets has been a bear to write, and I just don't want to force it out because it's just a really personal and important book to me. It's sitting at about 85% done (still mostly unedited) but connecting everything up is just tough.

SO INSTEAD I'M BEGINNING BOOK 3 OF TWaC, THE SEQUEL TO THESE OTHER COASTS!!
