It's been a while I haven't build nice piece of furniture. This bathroom vanity is made of local oak, tenon and mortise joints, dovetails on some details and sliding doors. Very happy with the result and much fun to build it. Tim and I spent few days cutting off doors and windows. We created a groove in what the jambs will slide while the logs shrink and we made cheeks that remind the walls corners. We can consider the logwork done! I let the timberframe of the hayshed uncovered few months because I was runing behind the clock. Here it is with some leftover of plastic roofing and sticks that Im usually using for shingleroof. Some weeks ago I found a freshly broken rowan (sorbus, pihlakas). I made few spoons, tried different shapes, used mora knives and old spoon knives hunt on local fairs. Back in 2012 #vanaajamaja @goosewing_timberworks and many other volunteers from Usa, England, France and Estonia gathered by #peipsijärv to build the first #coveredbridge of #Estonia The previous bridge got broken years before, isolating rural families from shops and villages. Fun fact: if you put the bolts one after another, you have to walk 2km! The sauna is set up, logs and rafters! We will visit few hours tomorrow morning to put a plastic cover over it and we are free some weeks before we come back to cut off windows and door. The client made the drawing of this small cabin and he was also fully involved in all the process. An experience that I wouldn't mind to do again! Tim doing the ruff cuts for the cheeks. We slap a blue line at the vertical axe of the log then draw the lines. We have the joint 18cm. We reached 2m high, cleaned the cheeks and cut the tip of the logs. Looking great so far. We had a workshop this week end in #vanaajamaja with #meeliskihulane We steamed and bend spruce, willow and ash. As you can see, 4 hours hasn't been enough for dry ash. I really enjoy the process of restoring doors or windows. Here is quite a cheap door bought 10 to 15 years ago, it was meant for inside use but client put it outside. I made a box to produce pegs easier, faster and safer. Right now it is 250mm long, very nice with the 150*150mm beams Im use to deal with.
