Multiplayer Virtual Reality Gaming is the New Laser Tag
The latest advancement in immersive technology is set on breaking stereotypes of the idle gamer. Melbourne-based Zero Latency has opened a gaming space that pairs the digital with the real world for a heightened experience of the eSports genre. The arena allows players to transport to a future world taking on the undead and drawing upon both physical and strategic strengths to complete his-her mission.
The setup features a 400 square meter room where players are able to roam freely while engaged in a virtual reality headset.
The team behind Zero Latency launched a Pozible crowdfundingcampaign last year. After surpassing their goal, raising a total of $29,700, the team has delivered on their promise to purchase more hardware and set up a standalone gaming venue. As the project gains traction, we hope to see a number of gaming scenarios incorporated into the co-op setting spanning areas of music and education

How to Create 360 Degree Videos with Freedom360 and GoPro
We bought our Freedom360 mounts, six GoPro HERO 4’s and stitching software through the Kolor Store which only took a speedy four days for the payment to clear along with delivery to our door. Highly recommended company.
On the software end we’d definitely say to get both Autopano Video Pro and Autopano Giga as you’ll use them together in post production. Get Autopano Giga for the masking tool feature as you’ll need it to fine tune and correct your videos. (We didn’t really understand the differences between Autopano Giga and Autopano Pro at the start. Get Giga or you’ll be sorry)
We sourced Kingston 64GB memory microSDHC/SDXC UHS-I U3 90R/80W cards from a UK website. For us the 80mb/s write speed ensured that we’ll have the capabilities to record higher data rates as new frame rates and resolutions come available.

This is key!
Virtual reality has unlimited potential, but it could make you sick. Stanford researchers are trying to solve that problem by tapping another new tech, light-field cameras. You see, VR devices can cause fatigue and nausea because of the “flat plane” 3D images they produce. Since those images don’t contain any depth information, your eyes can’t focus on near and far objects like you would in real life. Our brains want physical actions (like focusing) to jibe with what we see, so any disconnect can make us sick. And if companies can’t solve this “VR sickness,” the tech may go the way of 3D TVs.

Step Inside the Virtual Universe—How VR Will Transform the Web
Early VR is amazing, but it has some frustrating limitations. Experiences need to be downloaded and installed. App stores and platform fragmentation limit volume and diversity of content. You’re probably out of luck if your friend doesn’t own the same headset as you. And if you want to build your own experiences you need a game developer skill set.
VR without the open web feels unnecessarily limited. It could be a revolution in computing. It feels today more like a revolution in console gaming.
Now imagine a more webby virtual reality. To experience a new VR world, you click a link, and the scene loads instantly. No install, no friction. The volume and diversity of content is astronomical because you’re accessing the full web with billions of units of content. The rest of your digital life is there as well, from Facebook to Twitter to the BBC.
You can access it regardless of the headset you own, or even have shared experiences with people who don’t own headsets. Your friend on a laptop types keystrokes that manifest giant typographic blocks smashing into the virtual ground around you, while a spectator watches the livestream on their iPhone.
All of this is beautiful and smooth because the web platform has gotten fast, driven by JavaScript engine arms races and several years of concerted effort to make browsers capable of high-performance 3D gaming. Perhaps most importantly, you can create and easily share these worlds yourself. The tools are open, the know-how is shared, and there there are no gatekeepers.

TOMS, shoe/eyewear/coffee making company (well-known for their buy one, donate one offering) has introduced VR to their flagship store in Venice Beach, CA. As TOMS aims to connect the western world with people across the world, offering shoppers the chance to travel a foreign place using virtual reality is a no-brainer.
We are excited to see this concept find its way into other stores & industries. Virtual reality is allowing us to empathize with people who lead totally different lives than us in a very first person and, ultimately, PERSONAL way.
Awesome news for the virtual reality community!!!!

‘Come Invent This New Medium’: 8i Wants to Be Vine for Virtual Reality
Will we want to socialize in virtual reality? Maybe. Will we want to watch musicians and comedians performing for our entertainment? That’s a somewhat easier sell.
Several companies — including Samsung, Google and Nokia — are making 360-degree cameras that point outward in all directions, letting viewers look wherever they like. But rowing the opposite direction is a New Zealand-based startup, 8i. It’s pointing a bunch of off-the-shelf cameras at a subject, and turning that subject into a 3-D character.
Take this video of the popular Viner Logan Paul. He’s still performing for the camera, but by mousing around the embedded video, you can revolve around him and his parrot, seeing several angles that couldn’t be captured by a single camera:

NFL teams test virtual reality at 2015 training camp
At least five NFL teams — the Dallas Cowboys, San Francisco 49ers, Minnesota Vikings, Arizona Cardinals and New Orleans Saints — are using Strivr Labs software for VR. Derek Belch, a former Stanford student and football player, founded the company along with one of his Stanford professors.
The Strivr system uses footage captured by 360-degree cameras placed in close proximity to players, and then plays it back via VR headsets. Strivr currently works with Oculus Rift headsets, and they plug into computers that run Strivr’s system. The footage is not animated or manipulated; it’s actual footage of practices, which Strivr uses to build a library of plays for each team to watch.
Belch says the company uses real footage instead of computer-generated imagery because it’s much more effective for the players. “[W]hen you watch video games in an immersed environment it’s cool, but when trying to train athletes’ brains, they will tune out and end up making decisions off of false cues.” Gathering and organizing real footage is labor intensive, however, and every recorded play must be manually entered into the system.
The advantage of VR for professional football players is the ability to watch plays in an immersive environment anywhere, anytime, according to Belch. “In the NFL especially, they’ve stripped away how much time teams are allowed to spend on the field,” he says. Players can use [VR] “extensively when they aren’t on the field and will be getting reps.”
Belch wouldn’t share specifics on how much NFL teams pay for the system, but he did say that the company is working on a related consumer product, and the plan is for fans to eventually try it out during games.
