As I cleaned the kitchen table, I just happened to pull open the often forgotten about drawer inside the table....only to find about a week's worth of baby carrots from "someone's" dinner. Woohoo! I was notified today by the curriculum committee at the college where I teach that they approved the Ballet curriculum I have been working on getting passed for over a year!!! "Ballet for Strength and Flexibility", has been approved and I am excited to say that Ballet will be returning to the list of course offerings! Sometimes hard work pays off. My 4 & 6 year old just told me with a straight face that our 4 month old puppy CLIMBED UP and OPENED the top cabinet, where he then got down the bag of Skittles; proceeded to OPEN THEM "with his paws". He then ate all of them and then STASHED the bag behind the couch UNDER the blanket. I almost wasn't able to hold my mom stare during this loooong explanation. Too bad the kids are in time out and the pup and I are having a glass of wine. As I waited in a long line with my 6 year old son and 4 year old daughter to return an item, I immediately regretted my decision. The natives were restless and already touching the plethora of items that lined the cattle stall aisle designed to get you to purchase more knick-knacks en route to the register. I was about to turn around before we were at the point of no return when a woman about my mom's age entered the line behind us with her chocolate lab. Now since our family just added a chocolate lab puppy to our brood, we were all immediately smitten with the pup. This struck up a conversation with the owner that started with, "Oh my goodness! We have a chocolate lab puppy at home," but turned into something SO much more. The owner of the lab asked my kiddos what our dog's name was. When my 6 year old son responded, "Tillman," the woman said, "Oh wow. Did you know that I knew a man named Pat Tillman?" Our jaws all dropped and even my 4 year old daughter was speechless. My son blurted out, "That's who our dog is named after!" The woman smiled and said, "That is so wonderful for me to hear. Pat was a good friend of my son's and my daughter was a cheerleader with his wife, Marie. Pat use to come over to our house quite often." I went on to tell this woman about how my husband had coached football at Arizona State after Pat Tillman had passed away, but that in my husband's office there had been a huge picture of Pat when he played football at ASU. After my husband and the rest of the staff were fired, the print ended up in our garage and then finally 6 years later in my little boy's room. This lead to my then 5 year old asking about the picture and then deciding he wanted to change his name to "Tillman". When he started signing his name on his school papers and introducing himself as "Ty, but you can call me Tillman for short," we knew it was something special. Our son agreed to stop calling himself Tillman if we named our new puppy after the great Pat Tillman...and so it goes... As my kiddos and I were called up to the register, the nice woman left us with, "I will be sure to share this with Pat's wife, Marie. This is a special story." #pattillman #churchchat

The story? Grandma @debchurch805 is very generous and watches my kiddos for me on the afternoons I teach classes. Guess what my 6 year old son brought home from her house?! His story is that "Grandma Deb gave them to me mom!" Really?! And not just 1, no no, but 3 of these koozies leftover from my brother's bachelor party last summer. But really the best part was when my first grader asked me, "Mom, what does BATCHIN' mean?" And no I did not correct his mispronunciation of that fun, little word. We brought home an ENORMOUS plate of cookies from our Christmas party last night. I'm talking gigantic! I even had to double up the paper plates to hold the weight! And oh how hard I worked to craft a carefully chosen selection of cookies and fudge. As you might have already guessed that entire plate is now missing! All that was left when we came home this afternoon was the Christmas-colored plastic wrap. Even the plates are gone. Where, you ask? Please see article one and two. Our dog, Trace, consumed all 12 cookies and both pieces of "Fireball" and "Peppermint Schnapps" fudge. He even ate the plate. Does he look sorry? Of course not. On fact, he's probably a little tipsy! The only evidence of the theft is the horrendous smell he is letting out every few minutes. #dogshaming #dogsoninstagram #heatetheevidence

"Merry CHIRSMAS" everyone! Okay, I bought this little treasure on sale at Rite Aid (first clue, right?!) so my 5 year old would look forward to working on counting backwards from 25, BUT it looks someone (me) was not paying attention! Not only did I not notice that "Christmas" was spelled incorrectly when I bought it, BUT it took me another 16 days of helping my kiddos count backwards to actually catch the mistake.
