A friend of mine from around here who is Very Christian and has never had a Jewish friend before was asking me some stuff about antisemitism today, and it made me realize that the ways people talk about various types of bigotry and racism are so designed to stump people about the nature and purpose of systems of oppression. "Why do people hate the jews so much?" is such a common refrain and while there have been many books and articles written pulling apart all the important contextual and historical things that can help people understand antisemitism SPECIFICALLY, what I ended up saying to my friend was this:

"Something to understand about antisemitism is it isnt just ideological. The expulsion of jews from various countries was very often a method of "legally" seizing their wealth when the church needed money. It has been historically an incredibly convenient source of both a group of people to blame and also an easy way to just... Be able to steal from people, lmao. It has served very concrete material purposes for churches and governments throughout history. Sometimes you have to approach asking those questions from a different angle because it often isnt about the hatred so much as it is about ... Redirecting energy and attention, right, like upholding structures that benefit those in power. The hatred is convenient because it allows those in power to take actions that would not be tolerated if the group in question were not considered to be Exceptional in their inhumanity. Like the undocumented immigrants now, asking "why do they hate the immigrants so much" isnt always a productive avenue of thought because the hatred is usually just... Useful. Rather it is more helpful to ask "Who does it benefit for these people to be treated this way" -> "what do they need to make the general public believe about that group of people in order to justify this treatment". I think sometimes we are made to think hatred of jews is special and rooted in something different than other hatred... It's not. I mean all types of racism etc are unique. But it very much is about justifying actions that benefit a ruling class in all instances, imo."

And she like totally got it!!! She was like "OH I NEVER THOUGHT ABOUT IT LIKE THAT BUT THAT MAKES SO MUCH SENSE THANK YOU" I am very proud of myself lol :')

Btw, if you're against trans man and mascs discussing their issues as trans men and mascs, actively harassing us over your biases, you're part of the reason there's trans men, mascs, even boys killing themselves right now.

I made a post that broke containment and I got TERFs pissed at me for it. The claim: white women are less oppressed than men of color + many other kinds of men.

Oh boy they got big mad and just straight us said that women are incapable of oppressing men, ever. You heard it here first folks: white female slave owners were actually more oppressed than men who were literally their property! Lynching over false accusations? Eliza Fraiser inspiring genocide? Didn’t happen because of the inherent goodness stored in the womb

If they didn’t keep telling themselves that all oppression stems from misogyny, then they’d have to admit the fact that their brand of feminism is still willingly propping up a white supremacist patriarchy, and they reeeeally don’t want to have to give up their comfort by acknowledging that.

White men who play into kill all men or all men are bad jokes are just racist btw and using feminist allyship as a shield for their racism.

They can play into the gender essentialist stereotypes of men because (they think) they can't hurt them. Gender essentialism gives them a faux sense of superiority over others. It tells them "I'm more powerful than others by nature but I choose to be 'one of the good ones'". But they're still abusing the power they have, they're just targeting an acceptable target, men of color/trans men(oc).

They do it for brownie points because it still gives them the social gratification of being pat on the back for activism without any of the work to dismantle their bigoted biases or work to dismantle the systems that give them that power.

A cis man of color is not safe around a cis white man who does this, we have a whole history of lynching to back that up.

If you're in LGBT friendly spaces and someone introduces themselves and cautiously says they're fine with any pronouns, it is your duty to notice which pronouns the people around you tend to default to for them and ensure that you refer to them with any and every pronoun under the sun except for that one. You must.

i fucking hate that "i like men" and "i like women" are normal, respectable statements, but "i like non-binary people" is sus.

"there's no one way to be non-binary" there's also no one way to be a man or a woman, dude, idk what the fuck to tell you.

"non-binary men and women exist" simultaneous men and women also exist, but i don't see you using them as a "gotcha" against gay men and lesbians.

like i'm going to be honest it sounds like you just hate non-binary people and don't actually want us to be part of the conversation.
