Corpse Bride x Nightmare Before Christmas Swap AU. Don't get me wrong I absolutely love the original movies and ships (mostly Jack x Sally), I just thought this would be interesting.
Extra notes below cut, long post warning:
Swap AUs are an interesting thing. A character mainly consists of personality, roles, aesthetic, and backstory. And it all depends on which one you switch out or keep.
I decided to switch their roles and aesthetics, so the plot ends up affecting their personalities anyway.
Although they have similar styles in that they're both graceful and expressive, Emily still has a quieter melodious tone while Jack has loud showman-like poetry stuff.
So they keep their styles, but adapted. Emily can still keep her sweet singing style, but she needs a voice actress who can bring energy and range. Jack can still be bold and sing-talk, but he needs to have lots of soft, mournful moments. Also he needs an English accent.
How they deal with things might also be slightly different; Emily would get more openly frustrated than Jack but would still try to keep her head up more often in this version, given that she has more things to do as a determined idealist.
Jack is less shy than Emily and is more confused/upset than angry most of the time, which would make sense for an unlucky optimist who still tries to be firm.
They're both hopelessly romantic and passive aggressive.
Can you imagine the marketing for the romance in Emily's Nightmare Before Christmas? Wow Look At These Very Close Friends How Platonic What Good Gal Pals.
Corpse Groom would just end up buried amongst the obscure somewhere until the internet unearths it like two decades later.
I don't know how the lyrics would work. A lot of the songs might have to be redone.
Lastly, I imagine that calling Emily 'bone mommy' in-universe is a sure-fire way to crown her the first Tumblr Sexywoman circa 1993.
