I tried to emulate the style of the show. This is actually a redraw, but the original was so bad that I’m not going to include it.

theres something about Camila Noceda. There's really no other parent like her. Eda was a mother to Luz and King but doesnt fully fit into that mother role. Within the same genre of media the adults are always either cautious around the main characters or they're guardian figures who enable these crazy/dangerous situations (not a complaint, just an observation.) In Gravity Falls, Stan is a good example of this and then in She-Ra Angela likes Adora but her over-protective streak for Glimmer means they're always at a distance. Camila Noceda loses her daughter then adopts a monster girl who just needs a home (not as a replacement for Luz but because she knows Vee needs someone just like she needs someone.) Luz shows back up with four other disturbed teenagers in tow and without question Camila welcomes them into her home and never once complains. Her kindness towards these kids has no limits and no conditions, she fully and truly treats them like the kids that they are: in need of someone to take care of them but still allowed to make their own choices. She knew that Luz loved the Boiling Isles and needed to stay there despite her own horror at what her daughter had encountered, she didn't switch and suddenly realize she'd been unreasonable but she made peace with it in her own head. She knows that the role of a mother is to love and protect your children with your whole being but also knows that Luz's role in this world is something much different.
