Tragedy scripted and staged
youtube

Hamlet is a macabre tale of betrayal, romance, and murder. It is filled with feelings of grief, anticipation, heart break and rage. The hamlet version I observed was someone on the brink of mental illness and overwhelmed with rage. The scene I have chosen is Act 4, Scene 5, for its vivid and exaggerated glimpse into madness and insanity. Ophelia is, in the end, beautiful collateral damage from a corrupted kingdom of evildoers, war and strife. This scene heavily describes the fallen mental state of Ophelia in verse 10.” Spurns enviously at straws; speaks things in doubt, that carry but half sense: her speech is nothing.” It shows how deteriorated Ophelia's mind had become to the point of losing the ability to produce a coherent sentence. The staging of this act is overly dramatic and appalling to see someone descend into madness. The gentleness nature of Horatio's voice when he is trying to console Ophelia, is laced with sadness. The set is very dark and bleak to match the undertone of the play. The dim, somber lightning gives the effect of ominous and foreboding events to come. In this same act, Laertes finds out that his father had been murdered. It is a heartbreaking moment when he also learns his dear Ophelia had succumbed to insanity in the same instance. The sheer grief that the actor portrays in the stagging evokes a feeling of utter desperation and lamentation. My interpretation of hamlet is that of a cautionary tale to not let anger cloud your judgements. That also an eye for an eye may not be worth it and may cost more than you can give.

Anatomy of a Scene

“BlacKKKlansman” begins with an African American police officer from Colorado Springs, who is assigned to infiltrate a white klans rally. It is a film filled with dark humor and sarcastic tones. It is a slow-paced film with moments of obscenity and absurdity filled with symbolism. The overall film is a comedic take on the atrocities that African Americans faced in the past. The powerful scenes of racism filled with heartbreak and violence to the blatant scenes of ignorance ties this film together, as a masterpiece of a satire. The second film “Arrival” is a film about a mother who is grieving the loss of her child when extraterrestrial beings arrive on earth. The beings are then observed by the U.S government to somehow establish a form of communication. As the plot unravels it is revealed that the beings carry a well of knowledge of the past and future. It also shows how humans must collectively come together to achieve the goal of learning their language. That their form of communication allows them to see into the future itself. It ends with the mother realizing she is not grieving the loss of her daughter, but that the events have yet to pass. The ambiance of the movie is the ultimate sense of foreboding and anticipation. The tone of complete unpredictability is chair gripping and very thrilling to the viewer. My favorite scene is when the protagonist is realizing that she has been remembering the future for most of her life. The dramatic score and the striking visuals of the flashbacks are what make the scene so enthralling. It is also ethereal in the shots that are used to film that scene, from remarkably close shots of the actors' faces to how it blends into the wispy inscrutable blank faces of the extraterrestrial beings. It gives the feeling of mystery and somberness. The score of the whole movie is magnificent and really helps to give the film a dramatic sense of urgency. For the mother having to accept the fact that her past is her future, and she must relive every memory again, is at once terrifying but somehow comforting.

Home is where the Heart is.

he theme of my collection is “Home is where the heart is.” This theme resonates with me because I really treasure and value my home. It is my fort of reassurance on an overwhelming day, and I am grateful to have the privilege of living in one. I have always been a homebody growing up and my home was always a symbol of peace and comfort to me in challenging times. Especially when I started highchool , my first few years were a time of existential crisis and search of self-identity. There were several days where I anticipated the bus ride home then the school day itself.
Some people find relief in books, television, movies are hobbies, but I find relief in just having a quite space to spend on self-reflection when life gets a little too hard to handle. I realize as I grow older that you can't take anything for granted and even when you do not feel like you have much, there is always someone with less. I've learned that you must appreciate the little things in life. Even when it comes down to the design of my room, every detail is thought out and reflects my personal interests and what I love. Every room of my home is filled with memories of pain, love, laughter, grief, and anger. Each room has many stories to tell and portray a different emotion. Such as my living room whose walls are filled with echoes of laughter's past and exudes a sense of safety and family. One of my favorite places is my patio, where my family and I have gathered on countless occasions to eat, play card games, and watch fireworks. I am filled with gratitude to be able to have experienced these moments in my home with my family. As I enter adulthood, my eyes have opened to the misfortune of people that are less financially stable than my family and it makes me appreciate every little moment that I get to have with my family in my childhood home. One day I hope to create a safe and nurturing environment for my future family as well.

My theme is Dark and perilous Adventure
My Theme is about fantastical adventures that each and every one of these pieces create in your mind when you listen to them. Each piece represents a different leg of the journey. From beginning through climax to the resolution. This particular piece has an intense degree of dissonance and an eerie melody. The steady and hypnotic tempo gives the piece a dark undertone and warns of the dangers to come. I chose this theme because growing up I've always been into mystical places and heroic journeys for the brave of hearts. Especially being an avid reader, having the right playlist to accompany your book can really enhance the whole experience. My imagination is quite vivid and even when I'm relaxing in bed, a thrilling song can open a world of adventures in my mind.

The blaring sound of my phone's alarm jolted me from my sleep. With eyes still closed and face buried in my sheets, my arm automatically started searching for my phone to end the torturous noise. As my hand wrapped around my phone, I simultaneously raised my head to seek the relief of my snooze button. After succeeding to turn it off, I forced myself to sit up and gather my baring's before starting my day. When I decided my days activities I went straight for the shower. Stepping out of the shower I grabbed my towel and then my toothbrush and clambered over to my bathroom sink. I decided to multitask and brushed my teeth as I dried off and put on my clothes. Wrapping my hair up, I walked into the kitchen to make a quick breakfast of scrambled eggs and toast.
After wolfing down my breakfast, I threw on a jacket and a scarf and braced for the windy, snowy December morning. Walking down the sidewalks framed in dazzling white snow was comforting. The last rays of autumn fading under the blanket of snow gave an illusion of a winter wonderland. I walked briskly and surely towards my favorite destination. As I rounded the corner I was greeted by the familiar scent of sweet baked goods and hot chocolate. I entered the small café and positioned myself in a little nook in the corner facing the window. The waiter came up to me and took my order of blueberry scones and a peppermint hot chocolate. As I waited for my order I pulled out my latest novel and exhaled felling everything was as it should be.ac g

he poem that I chose is called “In Passing,” by Mathew Shenoda. This poem uses metaphors to explain the basic cycle of life itself. It speaks of the natural feeling of wasted time and regret that comes with aging. That with every different person, their bodies show a story with marks and scars and weathered wrinkles. That every life is unique in some form or another, whether it be through environmental differences, financial wise or even just belief system wise.
It symbolizes us going through the motions of life as “History Lives in circles and Spheres.” Hes referring to how everyone must eventually grow old and die. It also states that it is a blessing to reach an old age and that some are not as fortunate. It uses connotation to then explain the urge that everyone gets to go back and redo their life all over again, hoping for a different outcome. The narrative of the author is to explain that life is a peculiar wondrous thing that we cannot yet fathom but yearn to understand. It talks about how memories are a part of history, and with each day the world is filled with memories of every living being, whether they are good or bad. The central image of this poem is the highs and lows of life. How we learn and discover and make and destroy and how we all pass onto the next plain of existence when it is our time. I find this poem to resonate very deeply with me, due to its simplistic yet complex view on life and death.

The domestic architecture that I chose for this assignment is my own home. My House is a five-bedroom, three bathrooms, two story. It sits on top of a little hill, with plants of all kinds surrounding its sides. The bright orange painting of house can be off putting sometimes, but I have grown to love it as well. The house is separated by bedrooms upstairs and the living room areas are located downstairs. Such as the kitchen, the living room, dining room, garage, and laundry.
My home is often very bright during the daytime due to the absurd number of windows we have and not to mention a full glass sliding door patio downstairs. My opinion of my home changes as the years goes by, from cozy and protective to My own little piece of heaven away from school anxiety to basically a transient station before I go out into the world. The general areas of my home as far as decoration is very random and all over the place. I personally think it's from my mom's love of antiques and paintings. The aesthetic downstairs does not align with my personality at all, which makes it quite uncomfortable to relax there.
Thus, I created a little piece of me in the form of my room. Everything that currently interests me or that I'm obsessed with or that just generally looks good is scattered throughout every corner of my room. From posters to fairy lights, teddy bears, art supplies and even marvel collectibles. My room embodies my personality and gives me the utmost relief to just lay down and relax. My home serves its purpose as a living space and for that I am satisfied. I currently have a tent in my backyard. It's my little refuge when I want to get away from the mundane routine of relaxing in my room. It is a doble wide tent, with plenty of comfortable plushy pillows inside. As a makeshift shelter. It serves its purpose to the degree that I can rely on it when I want to, but it is also not a necessity like my home is.

Edgardo Carmona Collection
This collection is in Downtown Ft. Myers, installed in January 2016. It features twenty-three sculptures made of rustic iron. They range from 200-1,000 pounds and up to ten feet tall. Edgardo Carmona is a Columbian artist born in Cartagena, Colombia. He was born in 1950, and his sculptures are based on characters and scenes of his hometown. They depict scenes of everyday interactions of people where he was raised. Such as a fruit seller, two drunks on a bench, men playing chess and a knife sharpener. One of the sculptures features his childhood friend Abel Ramirez of the Miami based JAXI Builders, Inc. The sculptures are both public art and a gift to his friend. He was inspired by the feeling of similarities between Ft. Myers and his hometown Cartagena. All the sculptures are free round and placed in clusters throughout the downtown area.
The sculptures express the mundane but beautiful aspects of everyday life. From simple errands, someone working to moments of happiness and tribulations. Those moments are what makes life full and purposeful. As a local of Ft. Myers, I feel like the sculptures accurately depict everyday life in this small town. One of my favorite aspects of this town is that it has a very homey feeling to it. Everyone is connected in some shape or another, and downtown is always very lively. Folding and bending iron is an exceedingly difficult feat and Edgardo has managed to do it so elegantly and refined. Ft. Myers is not perfect, but we do have a sense of kindness and good Samaritans.

Arthur Dove “The Goat”
I picked this piece first off by the warm and mellow colors. It is an abstract painting of a goat, but it seems like there is more going on in the picture. I could also see a beautiful landscape of some fantasy world. It makes me feel calm and reassured when I look at it. I love the simplicity of this piece, and how the colors are understated yet blend in seamlessly. The goat is obvious but that is one of the features I enjoy most about this piece. Abstract art can be very confusing and hold a lot of concepts in them. The texture that the artist created throughout the painting is soothing and has a relaxing effect on the viewer. Also the almost monochromatic nature of the colors are not too intense and jarring. It really brings your focus as a viewer to the middle of the painting. which in turn almost feels like your seeing into another piece. I also really like the play of perspective that it has, with some of the objects behind or in front of one another. With the goat almost wrapped around the frame it gives the effect that the goat could be viewed as an eye. The short strokes of the artist gives the painting an interesting texture. This piece really caught my eye on the website for its simplicity. Most of the other works were either too uncomprehensive for me, or just too loud in color. I think it’s the best piece on the site .
